These projects stand out in my mind as memorable ones, as these clients are delighted with their decision to down-size ; as the expression goes, giving up some square footage but not creature comforts or beautiful surroundings. I enjoyed working with these clients on their new residences as it was a stimulating challenge to select the very best and most appropriate furnishings, culling the items and making them feel fresh in their new environment. I always say I m the editor, as interior design, like all design is as much a process of what to omit as well as what to include. It is important to edit out the superfluous elements to get to the essence... For me, this, by no means, means that minimalism is the answer. While that may work for some, I enjoy incorporating luxe accessories, fine art work, plush pillows, momentos and family photos and all the items that make home... home. Smaller residences also allow me to use better fabrics, rugs and furnishings as I search for new items to help complete the interior. As lesser quantities are required, I can achieve a wonderful layering of finishes and furnishings while being cost-effective in the process. Another trend in the world of interiors is regarding color; emerald green is the new it color. I have always loved using various shades of green, from the more subtle shades of celadon and light jade to the rich tone of malachite, to the more earthy olives. Our own dining room is a cocoon of pistachio and bronze, as the toile fabric I chose to cover all the walls as well as the chairs is of these colors. Many of our guests say it is their favorite room in our home; could it be due to the classic and timeless ambience or to Lance s cooking skills? Another color trend is the return, once again, of the combination of black and white. Always graphic and chic, a room done in this palette allows for many options... adding pops of brighter My mission is to interpret my clients unique vision, creating comfortable, intimate and timeless spaces to truly enjoy living in. accents or staying cool and monochromatic with the introduction of various shades of gray. While recently in New York City, the epicenter of design, I shopped all the floors of ABC Carpet in lower Manhattan, a large retailer with its finger on the pulse of today s trends. Originally started as a discounter of area rugs (I bought my first Dhurrie rug there for my own starter apartment in the early 1980 s), ABC has expanded and grown to offer many interesting import pieces, soft goods, case pieces and even has a wonderful café. Mid-century and groovy 1970 s inspired furnishings are still prevalent in their merchandise displays. It was a fun excursion for browsers like me! In Las Vegas, the Las Vegas Design Center has expanded its offerings with the re-introduction of the Christopher Guy Georgous results from some of our down-sizing projects. showroom, Stanley Furniture, the enlarged LMS showroom all important resources as are Élan Collections and Area West Showroom. I am looking very forward to our next buying trip (April, 2013) to High Point, North Carolina, to see what the manufacturers are predicting are what will resonate with us designers and our clients...
