Summary This document is intended to provide a user with instructions on installing the hardware on a Windows computer 2. Download the Dolphin USB driver by holding down the CTRL key and left clicking on the link, Dolphin USB Drivers 3. Click Save on the File Download dialog box To determine if you have a serial or USB homebase, compare the cable to the screenshot below Prerequisite or Requirements 1. A computer running Windows 98SE, 2000, or XP 2. Administrative access on the computer in which the Dolphin and homebase will be connected 3. Internet access and a web browser (IE 6 used in this document) Serial Homebase 4. In the Save In, click on and select the pull-down arrow and choose Desktop or select the Desktop from the option on the left side of the dialog box 5. File name is Dolphin_USB_Drivers.exe 6. Click on Save 1. If you are using a serial homebase, there aren t any drivers for installation 2. Shut down your computer 3. Plug your AC adapter into both the homebase and the power outlet 4. Plug your serial cable into both the homebase and the computer 5. Place the Dolphin into the homebase 6. Confirm that the dock light on the homebase is green 7. Turn on your computer. It should recognize both the Dolphin and the homebase USB Homebase 1. Disconnect the Dolphin Homebase from the computer s USB port Version 1 Page 1 of 7
7. A dialog box with a progress bar should appear showing the Dolphin_USB_Drivers.exe downloading to your computer 9. Click on Run on the Internet Explorer Security Warning dialog box 10. WinZip Self-Extractor dialog box will appear, click on Browse 8. Click on Run when the download is complete Version 1 Page 2 of 7
11. Click on Desktop in the Browse for Folder dialog box 12. Click on OK 14. WinZip Self-Extractor dialog box will show 31 file(s) unzipped successfully 15. Click on OK 16. Click on Close on the WinZip Self-Extractor Dolphin_USB_Drivers.exe dialog box 13. Click on Unzip on the WinZip Self-Extractor Dolphin_USB_Drivers.exe dialog box to place the files on the Desktop 17. Confirm that you have the Dolphin USB Drivers folder on your Desktop 18. Plug in the USB cable to your homebase and then into the computer 19. Plug your AC adapter into the back of the homebase and then into a power outlet 20. Place the Dolphin in the homebase 21. Confirm that the dock light on the homebase is green Version 1 Page 3 of 7
22. Click on No, not at this time on the Found New Hardware Wizard dialog box 23. Click on Next 27. A dialog box with a progress bar appears with Please wait while the wizard installs the software 28. Click on Continue Anyway on the Hardware dialog box. 24. Confirm that it is software for HHP Dolphin USB Homebase 25. Click on Install from a list or specific location (Advanced) 26. Click on Next Version 1 Page 4 of 7
29. A dialog box appears with Please wait while the wizard installs the software with a progress bar moving to the end 30. A dialog box appears with Completing the Found New Hardware Wizard 31. Click on Finish Troubleshooting USB Homebase Summary The following steps are intended as one way to troubleshoot an existing installation of the USB Dolphin, if it doesn t appear to be working properly 1. Right click on the My Computer icon on your desktop. 2. Click on Properties 32. The installation will repeat a second time. Repeat steps 22 through 31. When the hardware wizard is finished, you will see Your new hardware is installed and ready to use. Version 1 Page 5 of 7
3. Click on Hardware 4. Click on Device Manager 5. A dialog box appears called Device Manager 6. Click on the + to the left of Ports to expand the list 7. Click on the + to the left of Universal Serial Bus controllers to expand the list 8. Confirm that the HHP USB Dolphin USB Homebase is listed once under Ports and once under Universal Serial Bus controllers 9. The HHP Dolphin USB Homebase under Ports should list either (COM3) or (COM4) 10. If either of these devices have a red exclamation point or red X next to it or not (COM3) or (COM4), then the drivers should be uninstalled and reinstalled 11. To uninstall the HHP Dolphin USB Homebase, right click on the device and click on Uninstall Version 1 Page 6 of 7
12. Click on OK on the Confirm Device Removal dialog box 15. Click on OK on the Confirm Device Removal dialog box 13. Right click on HHP Dolphin USB Homebase on the Device Manager dialog box 14. Click on Uninstall 16. Click on No, if you receive a System Settings Change dialog box 17. Click on X on the right corner of Device Manager dialog box to close 18. Click on OK on System Properties dialog box to close 19. Go to 18 through 32 on pages 3 through 5 to reinstall the drivers Version 1 Page 7 of 7
