Important Notice Please Read For Maximum System Performance, Vintage Air Recommends the Following: NOTE: Vintage Air systems are designed to operate with R3a refrigerant only. Use of any other refrigerant could damage your A/C system and/or vehicle, and possibly cause a fire, in addition to potentially voiding the warranties of the A/C system and its components. Refrigerant Capacities: Vintage Air System:.8 lbs. ( lb., 2 oz.) of R3a, charged by weight with a quality charging station or scale. NOTE: Use of the proper type and amount of refrigerant is critical to system operation and performance. Other Systems: Consult manufacturer s guidelines. Lubricant Capacities: New Vintage Air-supplied Sanden Compressor: No additional oil needed (Compressor is shipped with proper oil charge). All Other Compressors: Consult manufacturer (Some compressors are shipped dry and will need oil added). Safety Switches Your Vintage Air system is equipped with a binary pressure safety switch. A binary switch disengages the compressor clutch in cases of extreme low pressure conditions (Refrigerant Loss) or excessively high head pressure (06 PSI) to prevent compressor damage or hose rupture. A trinary switch combines Hi/Lo pressure protection with an electric fan operation signal at 25 PSI, and should be substituted for use with electric fans. Compressor safety switches are extremely important since an A/C system relies on refrigerant to circulate lubricant. Service Info: Protect Your Investment: Prior to assembly, it is critical that the compressor, evaporator, A/C hoses and fittings, hardlines, condenser and receiver/drier remained capped. Removing caps prior to assembly will allow moisture, insects and debris into the components, possibly leading to reduced performance and/or premature failure of your A/C system. This is especially important with the receiver/drier. Additionally, when caps are removed for assembly, BE CAREFUL! Some components are shipped under pressure with dry nitrogen. Evacuate the System for 35-5 Minutes: Ensure that system components (, compressor, evaporator and condenser) are at a temperature of at least 85 F. On a cool day, the components can be heated with a heat gun or by running the engine with the heater on before evacuating. Leak check and charge to specifications. Bolts Passing Through Cowl and/or Firewall: To ensure a watertight seal between the passenger compartment and the vehicle exterior, for all bolts passing through the cowl and/or firewall, Vintage Air recommends coating the threads with silicone prior to installation. Heater Hose (Not Included With This Kit): Heater hose may be purchased from Vintage Air (Part# 3800-VUD) or your local parts retailer. Routing and required length will vary based on installer preference. 90232 REV B 05/2/7, PG OF 2

Engine Compartment Disassembly NOTE: Before starting the installation, check the function of the vehicle (horn, lights, etc.) for proper operation, and study the instructions, illustrations, & diagrams. Perform the Following:. Disconnect battery. 2. Remove battery (retain). 3. Drain radiator.. Remove the radiator mounting bolts (discard), and replace them with /-20 x /2 hex bolts and / flat washers. Installation NOTE: Do not remove the caps from the drier. The drier contains a desiccant that will quickly absorb moisture from the air, causing it to lose effectiveness. For this reason, Vintage Air recommends that the drier remains capped until the installer is ready to evacuate the system.. Insert the drier into the clamp on the passenger side condenser bracket assembly, and secure it with a / flat washer and a /-20 nut with star washer (See Photos, 2 and 3, below). NOTE: Do not fully tighten nut at this time. Refrigerant flow through drier is IN from condenser, OUT to evaporator. / Flat Washer Passenger Side 63098 /-20 Nut with Star Washer IN Photo Photo 2 Passenger Side 63098 /-20 Nut with Star Washer / Flat Washer Photo 3 6 90232 REV B 05/2/7, PG 6 OF 2

& Binary Switch Installation. Lubricate (2) #6 O-rings as shown in Figure, Page 7. Install the #6 drier/condenser hardline as shown in Photos 8 and 9, below. Tighten fittings as shown in Figure, Page 7. NOTE: Orient the #6 drier/condenser hardline as shown in Photo 9, below. Reversing the hardline orientation will push the drier into the wrong position. Tighten the /-20 nut with star washer securing the drier to the drier bracket at this time. 2. Install binary switch onto the drier as shown in Photo 9, below. Insert the () weld studs into the () OEM slots on the front of the core support, and secure the condenser using () /-20 nuts with star washers and () / flat washers as shown in Figure 3, below. NOTE: Big block core support is shown below. If vehicle has small block or 6-cylinder core support, either refer to dimensions on Page to drill (2) 5/6 holes in core support, or do the following: Insert weld studs on driver side condenser bracket into OEM slots on core support. Align top edge of condenser assembly such that it s parallel with bottom edge of upper core support rail, and scribe the location of the passenger side condenser bracket weld studs onto the core support. Using these marks, drill (2) 5/6 holes in core support, and insert passenger side condenser bracket weld studs. Secure with () / hex nuts and () / flat washers.
