Waterford Ultra Hydrotherapy Tub Installation and Usage Guide

Installation and Usage Guide Thank you for choosing the Waterford Ultra Hydrotherapy Tub. The instructions in this booklet will provide you with the information you need to install and operate this unit. The commercial warranty for this tub is included with the equipment. Please fill out the provided Warranty Registration Card and return it to the manufacturer. Failure to do so may disrupt warranty coverage. Distributed by SpaEquip, Inc. 965 Silverado Trail Calistoga, CA 94515 www.spaequip.com Technical Support (707) 737-1100 Fax (707) 737-1150 Manufactured by MTI Whirlpools 670 North Price Road Sugar Hill, GA 30518 Customer Service (800) 783-8827 (770) 271-8228 Fax (770) 271-1125 Table of Contents Installation Instructions 3 Plumbing and Electrical Installation 4 Important Safety Instructions 5 Operating Instructions 6 Cleaning Instructions 7 Troubleshooting 8 Warranty 9 Installer Test Procedure 10 2

Installation Instructions Before installing, inspect tub thoroughly: 1. Damage from shipping or delivery must be reported to carrier immediately. Do not install damaged tub. 2. Factory defect or damage must be reported to factory before tub is installed. Damage claimed after installation will exclude warranty. Moving to designated location: 1. Remove side and end panels by carefully flipping open the plastic screw covers at the four corners of each panel. 2. Lift tub by wood supports running under top lip of tub. CAUTION: DO NOT LIFT TUB BY PIPING-This May Cause Damage Not Covered By Warranty Preparing Tub for Plumbing and Electrical Connections: 1. Remove both end panels by unsnapping white plastic screw caps and removing 4 screws securing each end panel. 2. Carefully set end panels aside until installation is complete. Warranty Related Instructions: This tub was water tested at the factory and found to be fully operational and leak free prior to shipping. Freight handling and job site exposure may have deteriorated the tub s condition. This unit must be tested for operation and leaks PRIOR TO enclosure/final installation. Failure to do so will void the warranty. Always protect tub from construction damage by using a protective cover. Damage, including chips and scratches, incurred at the jobsite is excluded from warranty. Do not store in temperatures below 30º F. Proper waste and overflow installation is the responsibility of the installer. MTI does not warrant leaks associated with improper waste and overflow installation. There are many possible ways to install your new MTI hydrotherapy tub, and some may require different framing than the following instructions. A tub ordered complete with pre-leveled frame, skirting and air system is ready for turnkey installation. The pre-leveled frame assures that the tub will be of uniform height; the highdensity foam used to protect the air system also functions as a bedding compound; and the removable skirting provides pump and blower access. For drop-in units, however, keep in mind that the framing should always provide a level surface for the rim of the tub and sufficient space below for bedding compound. Access must be provided to the tub pump and blower for installation and future servicing. For drop-in applications, such as custom tiling, an access panel must be built into the installation. The access panel must have a minimum size of 16" x 14". It is the responsibility of the installer to comply with local plumbing codes regarding pump and plumbing access. TUB MUST BE WATER TESTED FOR OPERATION AND LEAKS PRIOR TO ENCLOSURE OF SURROUNDING AREAS. FAILURE TO DO SO WILL VOID WARRANTY. (See instructions on last page of this manual) 3

Plumbing Connections: All connections must be made by a licensed plumber in accordance with local and national plumbing codes. 1. Connect hot and cold water lines to ¾ supply lines located under the spout/mixing valve. Add shut offs and piping to hot/cold connections inside tub. 2. Clean out any debris from plumbing lines prior to final enclosure. 3. Connect both 1 ½ tub drains separately to a properly sized drain line. If using a floor sink under the tub, an oversized drain must be used to handle the flow from both tub drains. 4. Room floor should be sloped minimum ¼ per foot to one 4 or two 2 floor drains under the tub. Connect waste out from tub to floor drain (piping into drain and not on the floor). Electrical Connections: All connections must be made by a licensed electrician in accordance with local and national electrical codes. 1. Requires two receptacles beneath tub, each on a separate 20 amp circuit, 120V AC. 2. GFCI type/location: installing GFCI outlets under the tub requires that the end panel be removed if a GFCI needs to be reset. Installing a combined GFCI/circuit breaker will provide easier access in most cases. 3. Add disconnects not less than 5' away from the tub (Per National Elec. Code Aricle 680.41). The disconnect you select should be recessed in the wall, installed in a hidden location but in line of sight of the tub. 4. A pressure wire connector is supplied on the exterior of the pump to permit connection of a No. 8 AWG (8.4 mm)solid copper bonding conductor between this unit and all other electrical equipment and exposed metal in the vicinity 5. GFCI type/location: installing GFCI outlets under the tub requires that the end panel be removed if a GFCI needs to be reset. Installing a combined GFCI/circuit breaker will provide easier access in most cases. 6. A pressure wire connector is supplied on the exterior of the pump to permit connection of a No.8 AWG (8.4 mm) solid copper bonding conductor between this unit and all other electrical equipment and exposed metal in the vicinity as needed to comply with local requirements. 4

Important Safety Instructions Pertaining to a Risk of Fire, Electric Shock, or Injury to Persons WARNING -When using electrical products, basic precautions should always be followed, including the following: 1. Read and follow all directions.in this manual 2. To reduce the risk of injury, do not allow children or infirm persons to use the tub unless they are supervised at all times. 3. This tub is designed for use only as described in this manual. Do not use attachments not recommended in this manual without first consulting the manufacturer. 4. Do not drop or insert any object into any opening. 5. Do not operate this tub without the guard over the suction fitting (water intake). This guard is a safety device that reduces the potential hazard of hair or body entrapment. Keep hair and body away from suction guard when pump is running. 6. Anyone under doctor's care, pregnant, or whose health is poor should check with a physician before using any hydrotherapy bath system. 7. Recommended length of hydrotherapy bath is no more than 25 minutes. If client becomes dizzy or nauseous or develops a headache help them out at once; let them rest and cool down. Get medical attention if symptoms persist. 8. Do not allow clients to use the tub immediately after eating, while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, or after strenuous exercise. 9. Periodically check the GFCI protector as described in the electrical section of these instructions. 10. Before servicing unit, shut off power to all electrical outlets as more than one outlet may be energized. 5

Operating Instructions 1. Check with your installer to determine if an external power switch was installed. If so, locate it and turn it on. 2. Fill the tub approximately 1" above the highest jet. Do not start pump until tub has been filled to this level. Starting motor with no water in the tub could result in damage to the pump and internal seals and could void your warranty. 3. Large Jets: a. Turn on by depressing the On/Off push button on the deck of the tub. b. Adjust the amount of air mixed with the water using the air volume control located on the deck of the tub. Rotate the control counter-clockwise to increase the amount of air and pressure in the system. c. The large jets are equipped with a push-pull eyeball. Pull the jet to open, push it to close. Closing one or more jets increases the pressure to the remaining jets. d. These jets can also be adjusted directionally to adjust to different body sizes and personal preference. 4. Small Jets: a. Turn on by depressing the On/Off button on the pressure-sensitive touch pad on the inside of the tub near the middle. b. Depress the buttons to the right of the On/Off button to cycle forward or backward through the range of pulsing jet sequences. These range from a soft, slow pulse to faster, more intense massaging jet actions. c. Adjust the amount of air mixed with the water using the other air volume control located on the deck of the tub. Rotate the control counter-clockwise to increase the amount of air and pressure in the system. 5. Either jet system or both can be turned on at the same time, since each system is powered independently by its own water pump. 6. Hand Wand: a. Before turning on, remove the Hand Wand from its holder by loosening the hold-down screw, then holding the Hand Wand nozzle firmly while placing it underwater. Operating the Hand Wand with its nozzle out of the water is very disrupting for the client, and should be avoided. b. Before turning on, push in Large Jets to close them off as required to provide the desired water pressure for the Hand Wand. The more Large Jets turned off, the more powerful the jet action with the Hand Wand. To produce lower pressure from the Hand Wand, leave all the Large Jets open, (pulled out). c. Turn on by depressing the same On/Off push button that operates the Large Jets. d. Adjust water pressure for the Hand Wand to the exact pressure desired with the control knob located where the Hand Jet hose is attached to the top deck of the tub. This allows the pressure to be adjusted down to a very gentle flow for sensitive skin. 6

Cleaning Instructions Cleaning the Acrylic Shell The Lucite cast acrylic surface of this tub is among the highest quality and most durable surfaces available. Its hard, non-porous finish prevents dirt from accumulating and resists stains. With normal use, Lucite cast acrylic will retain its beauty and high gloss if you follow the following steps: 1. Use common tub and tile cleaning products that are non-abrasive and do not include ammonia. Never use abrasive cleaners. Recommended products include Lysol Basin, Tub & Tile Cleaner, Glass Plus, Simple Green, Mr. Clean, Top Job, or a mild dishwashing detergent such as Ivory Liquid. Follow manufacturer's directions and precautions. 2. After cleaning, rinse well and dry with a soft, clean cloth. 3. Clean grease, oil, paint and ink stains with isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol. Rinse well and dry with a soft, dry cloth. 4. Do not allow your tub to come into contact with nail polish, nail polish remover, wintergreen oil, cleaning solution, lacquer thinners, gasoline, pine oil, or acetone. 5. Small scratches can be removed by buffing lightly with a clean cloth and using either an automotive polishing liquid or toothpaste. For deeper scratches, sand the surface lightly with a 400 grit wet or dry paper and buff with a fine-grit buffing compound. Cleaning the Internal Plumbing Lines Normal Cleaning: Operate the self-cleaning system after each client: 1. After completely draining the tub, close all large jets by simply pushing in the jet nozzles. Turn off water flow to hand wand. Leave the drain open. 2. Open the both dispenser caps located at the foot of the tub (which also is the air volume control for the hydrotherapy jet system) and add 2 ounces of Disinfectant/Cleaner concentrate to each. Replace caps. 3. Push the adjacent chrome on/off buttons to activate the self-cleaning cycle for each pump system. This automatically circulates water and cleanser through the air lines, water lines and pumps for 3 minutes then shuts off. Residue will be flushed out through the suction intake and down the drain. NOTE: It is normal for some water to exit around the jets and through the jet nozzles. 4. Once the system shuts off, turn on the hand wand control to allow any remaining water to drain. Open the jets. Periodic Deep Cleaning: Every 3 months, fill tub with warm water above the jets and add 1 cup of household bleach. Turn both pumps on for two minutes then let stand for an additional 15 minutes. Drain the tub and refill with cold water. Restart the system for 10 minutes then drain. Note: Bath oils, seaweeds or mud products used in the hydrotherapy tub will increase the possibility of bacteria growth within the system. Be sure to run the self-cleaning function after each use, and the Deep Cleaning might need to be performed more frequently. Some products will tend to adhere to the plumbing lines and need to be flushed by re-filling and briefly operating the hydrotherapy jet systems. Make sure all products used are water-soluble and designed for hydrotherapy tub use. 7

Troubleshooting Please use the following checklist if you encounter a problem with this product. These are not covered under warranty but are simple repairs. Pump will not run: 1. Check electrical connection. Test outlet for power with a lamp to ensure there is power to box. Be sure pump is plugged in. 2. Check to be sure that the on/off switch is connected to the pump. 3. Check to be sure that a fuse has not blown or the circuit breaker has not tripped. 4. Check that the reset button on the GFCI has not tripped. If this problem persists, you may need to call an electrician. Tub won t drain: 1. Is the drain clogged? 2. Is the drain plug adjusted correctly? See drain installation instructions to verify proper installation. Tub makes noise: 1. Is the water level too low? Tub Leaks; 1. Check caulking around tub for leaks. 2. Check plumbing for leaks. 3. Is water splashing out of the tub? The tub may be too full. Drain some water out of the tub. Water level should be just above the highest jets. 4. Is leaking present around the pump? Tighten large union nut rings on PVCline to pump. These may have loosened during shipment or installation. These need to be hand tight only. Remove both unions and check the rubber O rings for proper seating. Replace unions hand tight. Little or no action from jets: 1. Check each jet to assure that they are all set to the open position by pulling the inner eyeball of the jet. Note: Each jet may be shut off individually. 2. Open air volume control to allow air to mix with water. Rust or greasy substance in new tub: 1. Some construction debris is commonly found in the plumbing lines of a new tub. Such debris typically washes away after running water passes through the pipes a few times. 2. If the condition persists, there may be sediments in the water heater of the building. Drain the water heater according to manufacturer s instructions and clean the whirlpool system as described in Cleaning Instructions. 8
