Lake of the Sky Garden Club is a member of the National Garden Clubs, INC, Pacific Region and Member of the California Garden Clubs, INC, Golden Foothills District. Next Meeting: Monday, June 27, 2016 I hope everyone enjoyed Gisele s presentation on garden fertilizers and amendments. We had a lot to talk about at our meeting, and our next meeting will be equally as important. At the June meeting we will be voting on new Officers. The nominating committee, consisting of Sherry McConnell, Kathy Swigard, and Barbra Briggs has proposed the following nominees for the positions listed for 2016-2017: President.Emily Hatch Vice President, Programs.Donna Caravelli Vice President, Membership.Pat Dolle Secretary.Gay Veeh Treasurer.Darlene Boggeri Before we vote, the floor will be open to other nominations. If you know of anyone who would like to become an officer, who is not listed above, please attend the next meeting. President s Message Vicky Myer We will also be voting on the 2016-17 budget at that meeting. Barbara Menk has graciously volunteered to host our meeting on Monday, June 27th. Barbara s address is 680 Olympic Drive in Tahoe City, and her phone number is 530.583.3330. A potluck dinner will start at 4pm, and our meeting will immediately follow dinner. Please bring a chair for yourself for yourself. We would appreciate it if you would bring the following: Last Names: A ~ F Please bring an appetizer G ~ L Please bring a salad M ~ R Please bring a main course S ~ Z Please bring a dessert Wine and water will be provided, as well as tableware, glasses, napkins, etc. Bring a sweater! Lake of the Sky Garden Club Minutes Gay Veeh, Secretary Garden Club Minutes May 23, 2016 Vicky Myer, President, called the meeting to order at 4pm followed by the flag salute, led by Barbra Briggs. The minutes from the last meeting need corrections so will be presented for approval at the next meeting Darlene Boggeri, treasurer, reported that the current club balance is $10,057. Barbra Briggs, Grant Committee Chair, presented the following grants for approval: Thunderbird Lodge Garden maintenance and improvement, $1000 Tahoe City Committee for the town s hanging baskets, $2000 Slow Food Movement for growing food to give to Meals on Wheels, $1500 Barbra recommended moving $1000 of the allotted $4500 over to the scholarship committee and the other $500 going back to the treasury. A motion was made and passed to approve the grant committee s recommendations. Pat Dolle, Membership Chair, announced that the $25 member s dues are currently due, and can be paid today, at the next meeting, or mailed to the Garden Club s PO box. Dues are needed by July 15 so that the roster can be printed. Garden Tour Reports: Judy Carter, Garden Tour Chair, introduced the chair people for this year s tour: Hospitality ~ Ann Chartier & Ellie Hyatt Hostess ~ Helga Rodgers Tickets ~ Karen Duffy & Patty Orlando Marketing and Publicity ~ Emily Kashtan Judy presented copies of the flier and tickets, and commended Emilie for the beautiful job on these, and thanked her for all of her hard work. The Garden tour is being dedicated to recently deceased Beverly Bloodworth, a dedicated gardener who loved roses. The Fish Hatchery parking problems have been resolved. Emily Kashtan, Marketing Chair, explained the changes this year. Sponsors have been added to offset printing costs; gardening experts will be at the Fish Hatchery; and artists have been added to the tour. She has contacted a number of online calendars and has written articles to publicize the tour. The articles will appear one to two weeks before the tour. Also, four large banners are being readied. She also explained that helpful gardening tips have been added to the tickets in line with our club s educational objectives. Helga Rodgers, Host Chair, announced that we have 27 hosts signed up but we still need more. We will also have master gardeners available at the gardens. It was also announced that the tickets are now available, and members may purchase 2 of them for $20 before July 1st. After July 1st it is $25 per ticket. Vicky announced that officers will be nominated at the next meeting, and voted on at the following meeting. Our next meeting will be a potluck at Barbara Menk s beautiful garden, on Monday, June 27th. Vicky introduced our guest speaker, Gisele Schoniger from Kellogs, who spoke about using organic soil amendments and fertilizers. The meeting was adjourned at 5:11 pm. Our year runs July 1 through June 30 and that will be here soon. Be sure to include an application with your membership in the check amount of $25.00. I will also be at the June meeting if you wish to pay then. 2016 Garden Tour Update Emilie, Kashtan, Publicity & Marketing Chair The 2016 Lake of the Sky North Shore Garden Tour with Artists, is available for purchase for $25 at the participating nurseries, which include The Villager Nursery in Truckee, The Perennial Nursery in Tahoe Vista, High Sierra Gardens in Incline Village, and Tahoe Tree Nursery in Tahoe City or by calling Patti Orlando at (775) 7456443. The 16 page Brochure/Ticket has a description of each of the beautiful gardens which include three lake front gardens, two lake view gardens, one garden created by a master gardener, one garden created for the intimate setting, and the eighth garden which is located at the historic hatchery in Tahoe City, showcasing their 3 acre native garden designed by master gardener David Long. Included this year is eight well known artists displaying their art for sale at various gardens, with a photograph of each artist s work in the brochure. Also new will be on site experts at the hatchery available to answer questions that ticket holders might have. These individuals include master gardener David Long, Eric Larusson a certified arborists and the owner of The Villager Nursery, Kris Vickers of the Tahoe City PUD, Eben Swain of the Truckee Watershed Council and Robert Nooren, representative for Rain Bird sprinklers. It also identifies that landscape gardeners Shana Behan and Heather Mosier will be at Gardens F and G. You will find the names and contact information of our sponsors for this year s Tour, and we encourage you to patronize their businesses. Finally, we have added a section of garden tips with associated web sites for further information. Club Members can purchase two tickets, prior to July 1st, for $20. Tickets are limited and are expected to sell out, so purchase your tickets early. PAGE! 4 PAGE!4
