Foreword 1. Foreword This operator's manual contains information and procedures for the safe operation and maintenance of your Wacker machine. In the interest of your own safety and to prevent accidents, you should carefully read through the safety information, familiarize yourself with it and observe it at all times. This operator's manual is not a manual for extensive maintenance and repair work. Such work should be carried out by Wacker Service or authorized specialists. The safety of the operator was one of the most important aspects taken into consideration when this machine was designed. Nevertheless, improper use or incorrect maintenance can pose a risk. Please operate and maintain your Wacker machine in accordance with the instructions in this operator's manual. Your reward will be troublefree operation and a high degree of availability. Defective components should be replaced immediately! Please contact your Wacker representative if you have any questions concerning operation or maintenance. Safety information HD... 2. Safety information 2.1 General recommendations The direct oil-fired space heaters of the HD series operate with burners which run on fuel oil. The direct oil-fired space heaters in the HD series radiate hot air as well as flue gas in the room to be heated, whereas the machines in the HI series have a flue outlet, which diverts the smoke out. The conditions of use for the machine must correspond to the regulations and laws in effect. Observe the following points: * Strictly follow the instructions in this manual. * Do not place the machine in rooms where there is a risk of explosion or in rooms where fire is not permitted to be used. * Do not store highly flammable materials in the vicinity of the machine. * All fire prevention measures must be met. * Ensure there is sufficient ventilation in the room where the machine is located. Make particularly sure there is an adequate supply of fresh air in the room, as the machine radiates warm air as well as flue gas straight into the room to be heated. * The suction and discharge pipes must be kept free of obstacles and blockages. Make sure that any cloths or covers are not put on the machine and it is not placed directly near a wall or large bulky objects. * Top up the tank with kerosene at very low room temperatures. * Check the machine before you start it and monitor it during operation. Keep children and pets away from the direct oil-fired space heater. * Always check the fan is working properly before starting up. Then connect the mains plug into the socket. * Always remove the mains plug from the socket after operation. wagsi5700000001en.fm 6
HD... 2.2 Safety devices Safety information 2.3 Labels The direct oil-fired space heater is fitted with an electronic flame monitor. If there is a malfunction, the flame monitor shuts the machine down and the control lamp (15) lights up. Identify and correct the cause of the malfunction before restarting the machine. To start up the machine again, set the main switch (14) to sition "0" and follow the instructions in section "Starting up" on page 9. Your machine has adhesive labels containing the most important instructions and safety information. * Make sure that all the labels are kept legible. * Replace any missing or illegible labels. Item Description 1 CAUTION Read the operator s manual carefully. Privide a sufficient flow of fresh air to closed rooms. Operate the unit at least 2 m away from combusstible materials. Neffer pull out the mains plug during operation or during the after-cooling phase. Only use heating oil or diesel fuel (not bio fuels). Turn off the unit before you fill the tank. wagsi5700000001en.fm 7

HD... 4. Operation Operation 4.1 Starting up Before starting up the machine, check whether the power supply criteria correspond to the details on its label. Then you can connect the machine to the main power supply. Caution * The electric power supply cable for the machine must be earthed and have a fault current protective switch. * Plug the electric power supply cable of the machine into a socket which has a circuit breaker. Then the machine can only be operated automatically if it is connected up to a monitoring device, such as a thermostat or a timer. If so, disconnect the cable which connects terminals F3 and F4 to the electric jig. Plug a cable into the connector (16) and connect the cable to the monitoring device. 4.2 Switching on the machine To turn on the machine, proceed as follows: * Once a monitoring device is connected: Set the monitoring device to allow operation (for example, set thermostat to maximum temperature). * Set the main switch (14) to the "I" position: The fan starts up and after a few seconds the combustion procedure begins. For the initial start up or after the fuel oil has been completely drained from the system, the flow of fuel oil into the jet can be very low. The flame monitor switches the machine off. In this case, wait approximately one minute and then set the main switch (14) to position "0" and restart the machine. wagtx5700000004en.fm 9
Operation HD.... If the machine fails to start, proceed as follows: * Check there is adequate fuel oil in the tank. * Set the main switch (14) to the "0" position. * Switch on the machine again. Set the main switch (14) to the "I" position. * If the machine still does not work, see section "Malfunctions, causes, and remedies" on page 13. Identify the cause of the malfuction. Caution If the supply voltage is under 190 V, the machine switches off automatically and the control lamp flashes. The machine starts again automatically once the voltage is back up to 205 V. 4.3 Switching off the machine To switch off the machine, set the main switch (14) to position "0" or set the monitoring device at a temperature lower than room temperature. The flame goes out, the fan continues to run until the combustion chamber has fully cooled down. wagtx5700000004en.fm 10
HD... 5. Transport Transport Caution Before moving the device, carry out the following steps: * Switch off the machine. Follow the instructions in section "Switching off the machine" on page 10. * Disconnect the electric power supply. Pull the mains plug from the socket. * Wait until the machine has cooled down. Before lifting or moving the machine, check the tank seal is firmly closed. The machine can be pulled or pushed on the wheels for transporting. wagtx5700000005en.fm 11
Maintenance HD... 6. Maintenance To ensure the machine can operate properly, the combustion chamber, the burner and the fan must be cleaned regularly. Caution Before you start maintenance work, carry out the following steps: * Switch off the machine. Follow the instructions in section "Switching off the machine" on page 10. * Disconnect the electric power supply. Pull the mains plug from the socket. * Wait until the machine has cooled down. Carry out the following manitenance procedures regularly: * Clean the filter and replace if it is very dirty. * Remove the cylindrical external cladding and clean inside the machine and the cooling fins. * Check the condition of the cables and the high voltage connections on the electrodes. * Dismantle the burner and clean the individual components. Clean the electrodes and set the distance as illustrated in figure 1. Figure 1 wagtx5700000006en.fm 12
