Project Name Page 1 PART 1 GENERAL 1.1 A. The Hach RTC-N/DN Real Time Controller is a factory tested, standardized optimization solution with over 750 installations. The system uses a proprietary pre-written control logic running on a dedicated processor to output a signal. The system can be operated in open or closed-loop configurations and uses inputs from the Hach AMTAX sc online ammonium analyzer, Hach ANISE sc ammonium nitrate and nitrate analyzer, Hach NITRATAX sc nitrate analyzer, Hach LDO2 dissolved oxygen probe, plant flow, and temperature with preprogrammed algorithms are used to calculate the optimum DO concentration to maintain the desired ammonium levels. The output signal is a 0-20 ma or 4-20 ma current loop signal. B. The system integrates Prognosys, Hach s proprietary predictive diagnostic software to show operators real-time system performance and indicate service needs. If a sensor fails the system automatically falls back to pre-configured static dose and notifies operators. C. End users are provided with a pre-written O&M manual and a dedicated project management resource to coordinate system installation. Customers are granted priority access to our dedicated technical support resources. In the event of a system alarm, the support team is notified via text and email. System data is uploaded in five minute intervals and can be analyzed by system experts in Loveland, Colorado to provide customized optimization recommendations. If onsite repair is required, a local field service technician will be dispatched to the customer site. 1.2 1.3 Section includes: A. Hach RTC105 Nitrification/Denitrification-Module, an Industrial PC (IPC) that uses NH4-N influent concentration, nitrate, flow rate, mixed liquor suspended solids, dissolved oxygen and temperature and a preprogrammed algorithm to calculate the exact DO required for the aeration system to reach the desired discharge values. B. Hach ANISE sc Sensor, an analyzer continuous monitoring of ammonium nitrogen and nitrate nitrogen in one probe in wastewater treatment, with predictive diagnostics capability to monitor instrument status. C. Hach Filtrax Sample Filtration System, for sample filtration consisting of: 1. Filter module holder 2. Control unit 3. Sample delivery hose D. Hach NITRATAX sc Sensor, for continuously monitoring nitrate in water, with predictive diagnostics capability to monitor instrument status E. Luminescent Dissolved Oxygen (LDO, Model 2) sensor for continuous measurement of dissolved oxygen (DO) in aqueous solutions, with predictive diagnostics capability to monitor instrument status. F. Hach sc1000 Digital Controller, a multi-parameter that works with digital sensors, with optional predictive diagnostics capability to monitor instrument status. 1.4 Measurement Procedures A. RTC105 NDN-Module 1. The module operates when connected to the sc1000 controller. 2. The module can be used for both open- and closed-loop control of precipitant dosing. 3. Input from the AMTAX sc analyzer, Nitratax sc probe, NH4-N probe, LDO2 probe, and a flow meter, in conjunction with preprogrammed algorithms, are used to calculate the optimum DO concentration to maintain the desired discharge levels. 4. The module produces a signal to control the DO blowers for optimum control. B. ANISE sc Sensor

Project Name Page 2 1. The method of measuring ammonium nitrogen and nitrate nitrogen is by ion-selective electrodes (ISE). a. A differential ph electrode is used as the reference. b. A potassium ISE is used to correct the ammonium value for the presence of potassium ion. c. A chloride ISE is used to correct the nitrate value for the presence of chloride ion. C. AMTAX sc 1. The method of measuring ammonium will be by gas sensitive electrode (GSE) that uses liquid to gas- phase conversion. a. Sample is mixed with sodium hydroxide that converts all ammonium to ammonia which is expelled from the sample. b. Ammonia gas is re-dissolved in an indicator reagent, changing the ph value to produce a color change. c. A colorimeter measures the color change of the solution and the reading is converted to ammonia concentration. D. Filtrax sc 1. The filter module holder shall be immersed at the sampling point. 2. The module holder shall contain two filters that are each spanned by a 0.15 μm membrane. 3. An air-purge system underneath the two immersed filter modules shall provide a continuous air supply to automatically clean the filter elements by preventing adhesion of solids to the filter membranes. 4. The sample shall be drawn through the immersed membranes via two tube-metering pumps which are housed within the control unit. 5. Operating with no wetted parts, the metering pumps shall draw the sample alternately from the two filter modules into the control unit via a 5-m (15-ft.) heated suction hose. 6. The sample shall be pumped up to 30-m (90-ft.) from the control unit to the process-measuring unit. E. NITRATAX sc Sensor 1. The method of measuring nitrate will be ultraviolet (UV) light absorption at 210 nm. a. A reference beam at 350 nm will provide a reference standard to correct for interference by turbidity and organic matter. F. LDO, Model 2 sc 1. The method of measuring dissolved oxygen will be a probe using luminescent sensor technology. a. Blue LED light excites platinum based luminescent material in the probe. Red light is emitted by luminescent material with characteristics that are directly proportional to the amount of dissolved oxygen present. The red light is measured with a photo detector. b. Red LED light is used to zero the instrument between measuring cycles. G. sc1000 Digital Controller 1. Change sensors connected to the controller by unplugging and plugging sensors as necessary. 2. The controller accepts up to eight sensor inputs from digital sensors. 1.5 Alternates A. Other sensors that do not use a differential ph reference electrode are not acceptable. B. Other sensors that do not use both potassium ISE to correct the ammonium value and chloride ISE to correct the nitrate value are not acceptable. C. Other instruments that do not use a GSE are not acceptable. D. Other methods of nitrate measurement, such as colorimetric, amperometric, potentiometric, and iodometric with electrodes, or those that require reagents are not acceptable. E. Other methods of dissolved oxygen measurement such as galvanic, poloragraphic, or luminescent measurements using Ruthenium are not acceptable. F. Instruments that do not have predictive diagnostic capabilities are unacceptable
