1 General Description The NURSECALL and PERSONAL SECURITY system is a radio based call system operating at a frequency of 173.225 MHz with 10mW e.r.p, conforming to BS6799 class VI and MPT1344. The system has 240-volt wall mounted control panel receivers having master internal or remote displays providing 2 lines of 20 character full alphanumeric text. The systems and its display s provide individual alarm and fault information in plain English text together with a separate day, night and programming modes of operation. The control panel also provides, a 12 volt rechargeable mains fail battery back up giving up to 24 hours standby cover, 2 full monitored programmable outputs, 2 programmable auxiliary relays and 2 hardwired alarm inputs. A series of 9 pin RS232 ports provide printer or PC connectivity, a 9 pin RS232 pager port with a number of selectable pager formats and provision for an integral paging transmitter, a programming port and a two way communications port. The control panel also provides a 500-event rolling memory log, together with a separate 500 event saved alarm activation log. The system is modular with the ability to add up to 500 unique radio devices of varying types. The system has the ability to accept an infinite number of additional remote displays all complete with 2-line 20-character backlit plain English text and integral alarm acknowledgement / muting button. Each display also has the ability to be zoned and provided specific alarm information for dedicated activation devices in given zones. The systems location devices are ceiling or wall mounted devices combing both radio and infrared technologies operating on frequencies of 173.225 MHz and 455 KHz. The units are fully monitored and supervised with automatic self-testing and fault reporting conforming to the requirements of BS6799 class VI radio devices. Each device has a unique factory set identity, tamper alarm, reset button and automated self-test facility. The devices are battery powered by either one or two 3.6-volt lithium batteries and provide a battery life expectancy of four years, except for the personal security beltclip unit which has a life expectance of 8 months. 5

2 Display Operation There are two types of display Remote & Embedded. Embedded Master Display Standard Remote Master Display Configuration Editing buttons System Status LED s Keyswitch set to Enable allows access to the system s configuration files When the keyswitch is in the enable position, the Silence Button does not silence the sounder. 2.1 Operation For normal operation (no calls or alarms on the system) the panel display will show: D = Keyswitch in Day mode N = Keyswitch in Night mode D 20/05/06 14:04 Agents Name & Phone Number From time to time the Rx led will flash indicating that a unit has transmitted to the panel and the panel has received the supervisory signal. 2.2 Day/Night Mode The keyswitch on the front of the display module has 3 settings: - Day - Night - Enable Day and Night settings are for the normal operation of the system and are indicated by a D or N at the top left of the display. These settings influence the type of response the system will show for any alarm, call or fault that occurs on the system. In Night mode a quieter sounder is used for all Calls on the system & faults will be displayed but without the sounder making a noise. 6

The Enable key position activates the buttons on the front of the display such that system parameters may be changed. The Silence button does not silence the sounder in this mode, but instead is used to access the menus. For Normal Operation the keyswitch should be in the Day / Night position and the light above the Enable button should NOT be lit. 2.3 Calls On System In the event of a call signal being sent by a unit the display will, for example, show: ROOM 4 STAFF CALL ROOM 4 C XX DATE TIME Indicates Call (C), Alarm (A) or Fault (F) Where C = Call (A=Alarm for emergency, F = Fault), XX is the sensor number and the Time & Date of each Call are displayed. The bottom line of the display will alternate between displaying STAFF CALL and C XX DATE TIME. 2.4 Control Panel/Display Sounders The Control Panel/Display sounders will make a different noise depending on what type of Call/Alarm is on the system, so staff can audibly differentiate between the Call types: CALL TYPE Patient Call Staff Call / Assist Emergency / Attack SOUND TYPE Slow Intermittent Fast Intermittent On Constant The panel will return to normal operation only when the unit sending the call has been reset. 2.5 Silence Button Pressing the Silence button on any of the Display units when a Call/Alarm is on the system will cause all the sounders to remain quiet, the Call/Alarm information will still remain on the Displays. If a Call/Alarm remains unanswered, the sounders will resound after 4 minutes to remind staff that the Call still needs attending to. Emergency / Attack alarms will cause the panel to resound after 1 minute. (Sounder silence times are configurable) If the Silence button has been pressed following a Call, and then another Call comes onto the system, the Sounders will re-sound to advise staff that there is another Call which needs attending to. 2.6 Pagers If Staff Pagers are incorporated into the system, then any Calls/Alarms that are generated onto the system will be relayed directly to the pagers, enabling Staff to see the locations of calls without having to return to a central Display Unit. The pagers will display the Location & Type of Call/Alarm just as the Display Units will, i.e. BLUE BATHROOM EMERGENCY If a Call/Alarm remains unanswered the Pagers will be re-paged every minute, to remind/advise Staff that the Call still needs attending to; this will occur until the unit has been reset. 7

3 Call Points Red Emergency button Pull Cord Green Reset / Staff Presence button (Blue on old style units) Infra Red Sensor (Optional) Pull Cord Call Point Old Style Call Point 3.1 Normal Operation When a Call Point is operated it will transmit a signal once every 6 seconds for the first minute after which it will transmit once a minute and finally once ever 10 minutes in order to preserve battery life. 3.2 Patient Call A Service User who requires assistance can do so by either: Pulling the orange cord hanging down from the Pull Cord unit, Squeezing the black bulb on an Air Bulb unit or Pressing the orange button on the end of the Pear Push lead. These actions will trigger a Patient Call on the system and the unit will emit a reassurance beeping noise and its LED will flash. The unit will continue to transmit until reset. 3.3 Staff Call If a Staff member requires further assistance at a room, the large Yellow button on a wall unit can be pressed. This transmits a Staff Call to the panel. 3.4 Emergency Call If a Staff member requires urgent help, the small Red button on a wall unit can be pressed. This will send an Emergency alarm to the panel. 3.5 Reset Once a Call Point is triggered it will continue to transmit until it is reset. It is therefore important to reset a unit when its Call or Alarm is being dealt with to avoid confusion for other staff and to save them any unnecessary visits. When a unit is reset it will transmit its signal to the panel which will automatically reset taking the Call/Alarm off the system. To reset a Call Point press the Green reset button. It will beep once and the LED on the unit will stop flashing, to show the unit has been reset. Note: If the reset signal is not received by the control panel, it will be necessary to press the reset button again. 8

3.6 Infra Red Sensor If a Call Point has an Infra Red sensor it can be remotely activated by activating an Infra Red trigger device (i.e. BeltClip / Pendant / Keyfob). Simply point the IR trigger unit at the Help Call unit and press the Assist / Emergency button. (Note: Call Points without an Infra Red sensor cannot be remotely activated) 3.6.1 Resetting Call Points following an alarm signal generated by an Infra Red trigger unit (i.e. BeltClip / Pendant / Keyfob) After an Alarm activation from an Infra Red trigger device (i.e. BeltClip / Pendant) it will be necessary to reset any Call Points that have been activated. Point the front of the alarmed Infra Red trigger device at the Call Point then Press & Hold the Blue Reset button on the IR trigger device for approximately 5 seconds, until the IR trigger device emits a Double beep and the LED on the Call Point stops flashing. If using Keyfobs, point a Staff Keyfob at the Call Point and press the Blue reset button until the Call Point resets. Alternatively once all IR trigger units have been reset, then press the Green Reset Button on the front of the Call Point to reset it. 3.7 Staff Presence Pressing the Reset button on a Call Point that is not in alarm, will transmit a Presence signal to the panel. The Staff Presence will be Date & Time stamped and logged in the panel s memory. This will also be recorded on the Printer or PC if you have the Event Logging facility on the system. 3.8 Jack Removed (Pear Push Call Point only) On a Pear Push unit, if the Jack Plug is removed from or re-inserted into the call point, the unit will transmit a Jack Removed signal to the panel, the unit will bleep and the LED will flash until reset. The pear push unit can be used without the Pear Push Lead being inserted but can only send Staff Call and Emergency calls. To do this simply remove the Jack Plug from the Call Point and press the Reset button to Cancel the Jack Removed alarm. Jack Plug connector at end of Pear Push Lead Additional activating devices/switches can be plugged into the Jack Socket (e.g. Pressure Mat). Using a Double Adapter enables you to have two activating devices plugged into the same unit (e.g. 2 x Pear push Leads or a Pear Push Lead and a Pressure Mat) 3.9 Battery Replacement The Low Battery warning comes 30 days prior to the battery reaching a level which may cause the unit not to work properly any more. 30 days notice provides plenty of time to replace the battery, even if you have to order a replacement. The Low Battery warning will be repeated periodically until the battery is replaced. The Call Points require one battery per unit: re-order code: BAT-AANC. To replace the battery in the Call Points, firstly remove the unit from its bracket. To do this simply push the tab at the base of the bracket towards the wall and at the same time slide the unit up and off the bracket. 9

Turn the unit over and remove the back cover. To do this pull the tab at the top of the cover down and at the same time push on the bottom right hand corner of the cover, this will release the cover so it can be removed. Remove the exhausted battery and dispose of in a safe way and replace with a new battery. Ensure that the pins on the unit PCB are lined up with the holes on the battery PCB and insert the new battery. If the battery is inserted correctly the unit should beep and a small bright green LED, located to the left of the battery, will flash. Replace the back cover, ensuring that the battery PCB is lined up with the holding slot on the underside of the cover. To reattach to the unit to the bracket line up the slots on the back of the unit and slide down until the locking tab clicks into place. 10

4 Door Monitors The Door Monitoring units will monitor doors to detect when they are opened and alert staff of any unauthorised use. The Door Monitor unit also doubles as an extra Call Point with fully functional Big Yellow Call and Red Emergency buttons. Staff Override Keyswitch 4.1 Arming To arm the door monitor, first close the door then turn the keyswitch on the unit to the vertical position. If the door is now opened the door monitor will beep and flash its LED and send a Door Open signal to the control panel i.e. RED LOUNGE DOOR OPEN 4.2 Staff Override (Disarming) It may be required to disarm the door monitoring function at times, especially if you are using a door constantly and do not want it to send an alarm to the system every time the door is opened. To disarm the door, turn the keyswitch to the horizontal position. This disables the door monitoring function and allows the door to be opened without activating an alarm. Remember to re-arm the Door Monitor once finished. 4.3 Staff Call A staff member can send a staff call to the control panel if they need assistance. This is done by pressing the large Yellow button on the wall unit. 4.4 Emergency A staff member can send an emergency signal to the control panel if urgent help is required. This is done by pressing the small Red button marked Alarm. Both Staff & Emergency calls can be activated with the Door Monitor keyswitch in either position. 4.5 Reset To reset the door monitor following an alarm, first close the door then press the Green reset button on the wall unit by the door. It will beep once and the LED on the unit will stop flashing, to show the unit has been reset. 4.5 Infra Red Sensor If a Door Monitor has an Infra Red sensor it can be remotely activated by activating an Infra Red trigger device. (see Section 3.6) 11

4.5 Door Bell The Door Monitor units can also be interfaced with a Door Bell, to enable visitors to notify staff that they are waiting at the Front Door. Pressing the Door Bell will activate the Door Monitoring unit and transmit a Call signal to the Control Panel. The display will show: MAIN ENTRANCE DOOR BELL Upon answering the door, reset the Door Monitoring unit in the normal way (pressing the Green Reset button) 4.6 Battery Replacement To replace the battery in the Door Monitoring unit see Section 3.9. Battery re-order code: BAT - AANC 12

5 Infra Red (IR) Trigger Devices There are different Infra Red Trigger devices that can be incorporated into a system using Infra Red technology. These are BeltClips, Pendants and Keyfobs (see separate sections later for further details). As standard the BeltClips & Pendants come with Dual Technology (Radio & Infra Red) ensuring that Alarm signals get through to the Control Panel via at least one of the signalling technologies. When a BeltClip/Pendant is activated it transmits its alarm signal directly to the Control Panel via a radio signal. At the same time it will send out Infra Red bursts which are detected by the Infra Red sensors in the Ceiling / Wall units which in turn will go into alarm and provide the location information of the incident. 5.1 Last Known Location (LKL) (Dual Technology BeltClips & Pendants only) In normal operation the BeltClip/Pendants will send out an Infra Red burst approx every 5 seconds which will be received by any Infra Red Ceiling/Wall units in that area. The Ceiling/Wall unit then transmits this information to the Control Panel which will log the BeltClip/Pendants identity along with the location of the Ceiling/Wall unit. This log will be continuously updated as the BeltClip/Pendant is tracked around the building. If the BeltClip/Pendant is activated in a room/area not covered by a Ceiling/Wall unit, with an Infra Red sensor in, then the Control Panel will display the Last Known Location (LKL) of the BeltClip/Pendant. The LAST KNOWN LOCATION will continue to display until the alarmed BeltClip/Pendant moves to an area/room that is covered by a Ceiling Unit or Wall unit with an Infra Red Sensor in 5.2 Radio Only / Infra Red Only There are Radio Only and Infra Red Only versions of the BeltClip/Pendant available if required. Radio Only versions operate in the normal way but will not give location, they will rely on Users knowing where each BeltClip / Pendants is. (For example you know that PA 1 will always be in the Reception Area). Infra Red Only versions operate in the normal way but will only work if activated in a room/area that is covered by a Ceiling or Wall unit with an Infra Red sensor. This will give the Location of Alarmed unit. 5.3 Optional Features The BeltClip/Pendant devices can come with optional features. (not Keyfobs) MAN DOWN This option is available for both BeltClip & Pendant units. If the wearer of the unit should fall over and not get back up the unit will automatically go into alarm after a pre-determined time (approx 20 seconds) alerting staff that there is a problem. Note: If the Man Down option is incorporated into the system, ensure that the BeltClips/Pendants are left in an upright position when not being used (i.e. at the end of a shift), otherwise the Man Down switch will activate and generate false alarms. SNATCH (BeltClip Only) This option is only available on the BeltClip units. It is similar to the Toggle Switch on a Pendant s Neck Cord, the Snatch Cord can be used to activate an ATTACK alarm from a BeltClip unit by pulling the Snatch Cord out of the BeltClip. Ensure Snatch Pin is re-inserted into the BeltClip prior to Resetting the BeltClip. NECK CORD TOGGLE (Pendant Only) This option is only available on the Pendant units. If the Neck Cord Toggle is pulled apart the unit will go into Alarm & send an Emergency/Attack signal to the Panel. Ensure Neck Cord Toggle is reconnected prior to Resetting the Pendant. 13

6 BeltClip Alarm Units RED ATTACK Button Press the RED button TWICE to activate an ATTACK Alarm. Red LED The LED Flashes when the battery needs replacing or when the BeltClip is in an Alarm mode. Blue RESET Button To RESET the system after an ALARM, point the YELLOW button towards the ALARMED Ceiling or Room unit. Then press and HOLD the BLUE RESET button for approximately 5 seconds. The BeltClip will emit a Double Beep and send a reset signal to the alarmed Ceiling or Room unit. Snatch-Pin Re-insert Snatch-Pin on side of case. YELLOW ASSIST Button Press the YELLOW button TWICE to activate an ASSIST Alarm. Snatch Cord (Optional) Pull the Snatch Cord from the BeltClip to activate an ATTACK Alarm. NOTE: If the Snatch Cord is pulled from the BeltClip, ensure that it is reconnected before resetting the BeltClip. The BeltClip will not Reset if the Snatch Cord is not reconnected. 14

6.1 Getting the Best from the BeltClip 1. ALWAYS wear your BeltClip on an outer garment or belt, for example wear it attached to a: Blouse/Shirt/Jacket/Tunic breast pocket Belt 2. NEVER carry your BeltClip in a pocket it will not work correctly, exposing you to danger. 3. NEVER wear your BeltClip under clothing, e.g. under a pullover or jacket it will not work and expose you to danger. 4. DO NOT take your BeltClip home after your shift. The system will detect that it is missing and notify Staff by way of a Fault Alarm. 5. DO press the RED button TWICE to set off the ATTACK Alarm. 6. DO press the YELLOW button TWICE to set off the ASSIST Alarm. 7. If you raise an alarm using the Snatch Cord, always re-insert the Snatch Cord Pin into the hole on the side of the BeltClip before resetting the system. 8. Only use the correct Lithium batteries. 6.2 Battery Replacement The BeltClip s electronics have been designed to maximise battery life. When a battery low situation arises the system will alert the supervisor by indicating on the display that the BeltClip s power pack should be replaced. The BeltClip will also notify the user by emitting a beep once a second and the red LED will flash in time with the beep. The BeltClip is powered by a non-rechargeable 3.7V Lithium Ion battery (re-order number NC2-BAT-AANL). This high-performance power pack is in AA format and should not be mistaken for other AA format batteries. When the battery needs replacing follow the instructions below: 1. Hold the BeltClip as shown and insert a small pointer (eg the end of a ball-point pen or a pencil).in the hole as shown in the diagram opposite. 2. While holding the pointer in the hole slide the battery door out with the thumb. The pointer can be removed from the hole and is no longer required. 3. Remove the exhausted battery and fit a replacement cell with the +ve terminal facing towards the bottom of the case. 4. The BeltClip will beep once to confirm that the battery is functioning correctly. 5. Refit the battery door by sliding it back along the moulded slots in the case until it clicks into place. 6.3 Battery Safety Exhausted batteries should be disposed of at battery recycling station usually provided by local councils. Exhausted batteries should not be disposed of into industrial, office or domestic waste. NEVER attempt to dispose of batteries in a fire. DO NOT short-circuit the terminals of the Lithium battery DO NOT use the 3.7V Lithium battery in lieu of a standard AA format 1.5V alkaline battery as this may seriously damage the device which it is powering. Store unused batteries in their shipping packages and away from metal objects or electrical conductors that may cause a short circuit. Never attempt to recharge the 3.7V Lithium Ion battery either in a charger or by applying heat. 15

7 Pendant Reset Press and hold the Blue Side Button only for approximately 5 seconds to rest the Pendant, the unit then emits a double bleep to indicate that it has reset. Patient Call Press the Big Red Button to send a Patient signal. (May require a double press, depending on type you have on your system). Assistance Call Press the Red Side button to send an Assistance signal. Emergency Call Press both the Blue and Red Side buttons together or pull apart the Neck Cord Toggle to send an Emergency signal. NOTE: If the Neck Cord Toggle is pulled apart, ensure that it is reconnected before resetting the Pendant. 16

NEVER wear your Pendant under clothing, e.g. under a pullover or jacket it will not work and expose you to danger. 3. DO NOT take your Pendant home after your shift. The system will detect that it is missing and notify Staff by way of a Fault Alarm. 4. DO press the RED button to set off the ASSIST Alarm. (May require a Double Press depending on type that is on the system). 5. DO press BOTH the BLUE & RED side buttons together to set off the ATTACK Alarm. 6. If you raise an alarm using the Neck Cord Toggle, always reconnect the Toggle before resetting the Pendant. 7.2 Battery Replacement To replace the batteries in the Pendant: Turn the unit over and remove the back cover (undo screw on back of unit). Remove the exhausted batteries and dispose of in a safe way and replace with 2 new batteries. The Pendant will beep once to confirm that it has powered up. Replace the screw on the back cover. The Pendants require two batteries each: re-order code: BAT- LR1 (x2) 17

8 Keyfob 8.1 Staff & Resident Keyfobs RED Neck Cord for STAFF Keyfobs. BLACK Neck Cord for RESIDENT Keyfobs STAFF CALL (Patient Call on Resident keyfobs) RESET button Point Keyfob at Wall / Ceiling unit in alarm and press BLUE Reset button until Wall/Ceiling unit resets and LED stops flashing. Point Keyfob at Wall / Ceiling unit and press the RED Staff Call button. The Wall/Ceiling unit s LED will start flashing sending location information to Control Panel. EMERGENCY CALL Point Keyfob at Wall / Ceiling unit and press BOTH the RED and BLUE buttons together. The Wall/Ceiling unit s LED will start flashing sending location information to Control Panel. Note: RESIDENT Keyfobs will send a Patient Call when the Red button is pressed. The BLUE reset button on a RESIDENT Keyfob does not work. To cancel a Call either use a Staff Keyfob or press the Reset button on the Call Point. 8.2 Battery Replacement The batteries in the keyfobs are not monitored by the system. To replace a battery separate the top and bottom halves of the fob and insert a new battery. (Battery re-order code: BAT KF) 18

9 Ceiling Location Unit Infra Red Receiver Ceiling units will be located around the premises to detect the Infra Red Alarm signals from the IR Trigger devices (i.e. BeltClip / Pendants / Keyfobs). If an Infra Red Trigger device unit is put into Alarm and there is an Infra Red Ceiling unit in its sight the Ceiling Unit will activate as well (the LED on the Ceiling Unit will start to flash) giving the location of the IR Trigger device in alarm. 9.1 Reset Ceiling Nodes Following an Alarm After an Alarm occurs reset the Ceiling Unit by pointing the front of the IR Trigger device in alarm, at the Ceiling unit, then Press & Hold the Blue Reset button on the IR Trigger device for approximately 5 seconds, until the trigger device emits a Double beep and the LED on the Ceiling Unit stops flashing. If using Keyfobs, point a Staff Keyfob (with a Blue & Red button) at the Ceiling unit and press the Blue reset button until the Ceiling unit resets. 9.2 Tamper Fault (T/FLT) If a Ceiling Unit is removed from its base on the ceiling, the unit will send a Tamper Fault to the panel to notify staff that somebody is tampering with the unit. If this happens, note the location of the unit that is sending the Tamper Fault and investigate. LED Infra Red Ceiling Unit Reset Button It may be that a member of staff has taken the unit down for a good reason. If this is the case then once the Ceiling Unit has been replaced back onto its base, the Ceiling Unit will need resetting. To reset the Tamper Fault press the White Reset button opposite the LED. The LED will stop flashing and the unit will send a Reset signal to the control panel to clear the fault from the system. If a Ceiling Unit needs to be taken down permanently for any reason then the unit will need to be powered down and the Control Panel will have to be reset. 9.3 Powering Down/Up Ceiling Units To power down a Ceiling Unit, firstly remove it from its base (a tamper fault will be seen by the panel, ignore this for the moment). Turn the Ceiling Unit over to reveal the tamper switch and power jumper underneath the unit. Relocate the power jumper to the two pins not covered (see diagram) the unit will now be powered down. To clear the resulting Tamper Fault from the Control Panel turn the keyswitch on the Right Hand Side of the Control Panel towards you (horizontal position) and turn it back to the vertical position, this will reset the panel s processor so that is will not look for the powered down unit. Note: Powering up the ceiling unit again will cause the unit to log back onto the panel again. 9.4 Battery Replacement To replace the batteries in a Ceiling Unit, firstly remove the unit from its base. On the underside of the unit there are 2 small screws that need to be un-screwed. Remove the bottom of the unit to reveal the PCB and 2 batteries. The batteries have a flying lead attached to them which then attach to battery connectors on the board. Simply remove the connectors from the board and replace with new batteries. (re-order number BAT AAL) Replace the bottom cover of the unit, taking care to ensure the Tamper Switch is in place through the hole in the cover (see diagram above). Screw the cover back into place and reattached back onto the unit s base on the ceiling by lining up the LED on the unit with the Red dot on the base and twisting in an anticlockwise direction until the unit clicks back into place. Press the reset button on the Ceiling Unit to reset the Tamper Fault that was generated when the unit was taken down. If the LED will not stop flashing check that the tamper switch is sticking through the hole on the underside and ensure that the unit is attached to the base properly. 20

10 Help Call Units Forming part of a Personal Attack system, the Help Call Units offer another point of requesting Assistance in the event of an incident. Help can be requested by pressing either the RED (Emergency) or ORANGE (Assistance) buttons located on the front of the unit. LED Magnetic Reset Swipe (Optional) RED Emergency Button ORANGE Assistance Infra Red Sensor (Optional) GREEN Reset 10.1 ORANGE Assistance Button Pressing the Orange button on the unit will transmit an ASSISTANCE request, useful if you need to summon help just in case a situation should occur. 10.2 RED Emergency Button Pressing the Red button on front of the unit will transmit an EMERGENCY signal to the panel in the event that an incident has happened and rapid response from staff is required. 10.3 GREEN Reset Button Once a call/alarm has been raised and after the incident has been sorted out, the unit will need to be Reset to clear the call/alarm from the panel. To RESET the unit press the Green reset button the unit will beep and the LED will stop flashing. 10.3.1 Magnetic Reset (Optional) For added security the Help Call Unit comes with an optional Magnetic Reset. The Green Reset button is not fitted on these units; the units are reset by swiping the Magnetic Reset Key along the right hand side of the unit. The unit will beep and the LED will stop flashing Note: If the reset signal is not received by the control panel, it will be necessary to reset the unit again. 10.4 Infra Red Sensor If a Help Call unit has an Infra Red sensor it can be remotely activated by activating an Infra Red trigger device (i.e. BeltClip / Pendant / Keyfob). Simply point the IR trigger unit at the Help Call unit and press the Assist / Emergency button. (Note: Units without an Infra Red sensor cannot be remotely activated) 21

10.4.1 Resetting Help Call units following an alarm signal generated by an Infra Red trigger unit (i.e. BeltClip / Pendant / Keyfob) After an Alarm activation from an Infra Red trigger device (i.e. BeltClip / Pendant) it will be necessary to reset any Help Call units that have been activated. Point the front of the alarmed Infra Red trigger device at the Help Call unit, then Press & Hold the Blue Reset button on the IR trigger device for approximately 5 seconds, until the IR trigger device emits a Double beep and the LED on the Help Call unit stops flashing. If using Keyfobs, point a Staff Keyfob at the Help Call unit and press the Blue reset button until the Help Call unit resets. Alternatively once all IR trigger units have been reset, then press the Green Reset Button on the front of the Help Call unit to reset it. 10.5 Battery Replacement To replace the battery in the Help Call units following a Low Battery fault, remove the four corner screw covers with a small flat bladed screwdriver. Un-screw the four screws to release the front of the unit. Remove the exhausted battery and dispose of in a safe way and replace with a new battery. Replace the front cover and screw the front closed and replace the four corner screw covers. The Help Call units require one battery per unit: re-order code: BAT-AAL. 22

11 Affray Alarm Units Forming part of a Personal Attack system, the Affray Alarm Units offer another point of requesting Assistance in the event of an incident. Assistance can be requested by pressing the large RED mushroom button located on the front of the unit to send an Emergency Alarm signal to the Control Panel. LED Large RED Mushroom Emergency Button Reset Key Switch Infra Red Sensor (Optional) 11.1 Emergency Button Pressing the large Red mushroom button on front of the unit will transmit an EMERGENCY signal to the panel in the event that an incident has occurred and response from staff is required. The LED on the front of the unit will start to flash. 11.2 Reset Key Switch Following an Alarm activation the Affray Alarm unit will need to be Reset to clear the Alarm from the system. To RESET the unit insert the key into the side of the unit and turn the key in a clockwise direction and back again, then remove the key from the unit. The LED on the front of the unit will stop flashing. Note: the key can only be removed in the vertical position. 11.3 Infra Red Sensor If an Affray Alarm unit has an Infra Red sensor, it can be remotely activated by using an Infra Red trigger device (i.e. BeltClip / Pendant / Keyfob). Simply point the IR trigger unit at the Affray Alarm unit and press the Assist / Emergency button. (Note: Units without an Infra Red sensor cannot be remotely activated) 11.3.1 Resetting Affray Alarm units following an alarm signal generated by an Infra Red trigger unit (i.e. BeltClip / Pendant/ Keyfob) After an Alarm activation from an Infra Red trigger device (i.e. BeltClip / Pendant) it will be necessary to reset any Affray Alarm units that have been activated. If using Keyfobs, point a Staff Keyfob at the Affray Alarm unit and press the Blue reset button until the Affray Alarm unit resets. Alternatively once all IR trigger units have been reset, the Affray Alarm units can be reset using the key switch on the side of the unit. 11.4 Battery Replacement To replace the battery in the Affray Alarm units following a Low Battery fault, remove the four corner screw covers with a small flat bladed screwdriver. Un-screw the four screws to release the front of the unit. Remove the exhausted battery and dispose of in a safe way and replace with a new battery. Replace the front cover and screw the front closed and replace the four corner screw covers. The Affray Alarm units require one battery per unit: re-order code: BAT-AAL. 24

12 User Menu The User Menu enables the following parameters to be modified/interrogated: Unit Isolation Time Date Battery Log Print the Event Log Sensor Name Patient Name (only used on systems with Resident IR key fobs) Staff Name (only used on systems with Staff IR key fobs) Access to the User Menu is done using the keyswitch and buttons on the front of the Master Display Unit: Keyswitch set to Enable allows access to the system s configuration files Navigation Keys used to scroll through Menu Headings Configuration Editing buttons System Status LED s Selection Keys used to scroll Up /Down through options Turn the keyswitch on the Display unit to the Enable position (ensure light above enable lights up). Press the Silence button to select the User Menu. Then press the (up arrow) key above the Enable light to enter the User Menu. 12.1 To Isolate a Faulty Unit Enter the User Menu Press the Silence button until the display shows: ISOLATE SENSOR ON Sensor Name This menu allows individual sensors to be isolated from System Operation. Use the Selection Keys to scroll through the sensors on the system. Up arrow above Enable light to navigate up through Sensor list. Down arrow above TX light to navigate down through Sensor list. Use the key (Printer key) to turn a Sensor ON or OFF. Note: If the sensor was in fault at the time it was isolated it will be necessary to reset the Fault message by turning the keyswitch to Night and then back to Day. The display will then show: as a reminder that a unit has been taken off the system. 1 Isolated This unit can now be sent for repair/replacement, the system will ignore that it is missing from site until it has been returned and can then be un-isolated. 25

12.2 Setting the Time Enter the User Menu. Press the Silence button until the display shows: With the cursor flashing on the hour. CHANGE TIME Time 07.30 Use the Selection Keys (above TX & Enable) to change the time and press the move the cursor between the hour and minute fields. key (Printer key) to Note: To save the changes to the Time press the Silence Button once the new time has been entered. 12.3 Setting the Date Enter the User Menu. Press the Silence button until the display shows: With the cursor flashing on the day. CHANGE DATE Date 30/01/06 Use the Selection Keys (above TX & Enable) to change the date and press the move the cursor between the day/month/year fields. key (Printer key) to Note: To save the changes to the Date press the Silence button once the date has been entered. 12.4 Sensor Battery/Signal Strength Log Enter the User Menu Press the Silence button until the display shows: BATTERY LOG / Print 3.5V Sensor Name Use the Selection Keys (above TX & Enable) to scroll through each sensor to view the battery volts. If a Printer / PC is connected then the Battery/Signal Strength Log for all the sensors may be printed out by pressing the key (Printer key). This prints: Sens - Sensor Number - Sensor Number allocated to each unit Batt - Battery Voltage - Last received Battery Volts TIME - Current Time - Time Count since last reception Lst - Last - Last Time Interval between receptions Max - Max Time - Maximum Time between receptions RSSI - Current Signal Strength Signal Strength of Last received signal Min - Minimum Signal Strength Max - Maximum Signal Strength Note 1: Sensor numbers 235 to 266 relate to the Control Panels. Note 2: The Last & Max times, Minimum & Maximum Signal Strengths, are historic Values. 12.5 Event Log Enter the User Menu Press the Silence button until the display shows: EVENT LOG Selects prints Press the Selection key above TX light go back in time to view past events. If a Printer / PC is connected the Event Log may be printed out from the historic event selected in the display up to the present date by pressing the Printer key. 26

12.6 Edit Sensor Names Plug the keyboard into the socket on the base of the display. (for panels with embedded displays the keyboard socket is inside the panel on the back of the display PCB) Enter the User Menu Press the Silence button until the display shows, for example: Serial Number of unit Sn_014600 L_Room 4 Sensor_001 Sensor Number of unit Unit Location Label Then Unlock the Memory for editing (see Appendix A) If you know the Serial number of the unit whose label you wish to change, type it in on the keyboard, then press Return. The units Sensor number and existing Label will be displayed. Press Return twice to move to the L_xxx field (Location Label). If you do not know the Serial number of the unit who s label you wish to change, but you do know the Sensor number, press Return on the keyboard to move the cursor to the next field, then type in the Sensor number of the unit and press Return. Type the new label that you wish the unit to have and press Return to save it. If the new label is shorter than the old label, use the space bar key to remove leftover characters. Remember to re-lock the Memory (see Appendix A) If you do not know either the Serial or the Sensor Number of the unit whose label you wish to change, press Return so that the Sensor field is highlighted and use the Selection keys (above TX & Enable) to scroll up and down through the units on the system until you reach the unit that needs changing. Once you have reached the unit that you wish to change the label for, press Return on the keyboard to move to the bottom line (Location Label field) and type the new label that you wish the unit to have, press Return to save the new label. (If the new label is shorter than the old label, use the space bar key to remove leftover characters.) Remember to re-lock the Memory (see Appendix A) To EXIT the USER Menu, turn the Keyswitch to Night and then back to the Day position. 12.7 Patient Name Patient Keyfobs can be personalised with the Patient s name if required. (default setting is Patient 1,Pateint 2 etc etc) To rename a Patient Keyfob plug the keyboard into the socket on the base of the display. (for panels with embedded displays the keyboard socket is inside the panel on the back of the display PCB) Enter the User Menu Press the Silence button until the display shows, for example: Keyfob name PATIENT NAME 0 PATIENT 0 Patient Keyfob sensor number Then Unlock the Memory for editing (see Appendix A) Press the buttons above TX & Enable lights, to scroll through the Keyfob sensor numbers until to reach the keyfob number that you want to change the name for. 27

Type the new name and use the space bar to over type any remaining characters from the previous label. Press Return to save the new name. Once finished editing all the names remember to re-lock the memory (see Appendix A). To EXIT the USER Menu, turn the Keyswitch to Night and then back to the Day position. 12.8 Staff Name Staff Keyfobs can be personalised with the Staff s name if required. (default setting is Staff 1,Staff 2 etc etc) Follow the same procedure as for editing Patient Keyfob names (Section 12.7 above) the display you require is: Keyfob name STAFF NAME 0 STAFF 0 Staff Keyfob sensor number Remember to re-lock the memory once finished (see Appendix A). 28

13 Common Issues and the Solutions In the event of a system fault, please firstly refer to the Common Issues below. If you then require assistant please contact your Installer/Supplier. CONSTANT PATIENT CALLS Fault: The wall unit sends a Patient Call. When reset is pressed, the system Resets but goes straight back into alarm with patient call. Cause: If the unit is a Pull Cord check the cord is free and that the internal switch is operating freely. If it is jammed, release the cord. CONSTANT STAFF CALL OR EMERGENCY CALL Fault: The Wall Unit sends Staff Call or Emergency. When reset is pressed, the system Resets but goes straight back into alarm with Staff Call or Emergency. Cause: Check the Yellow (Staff Call) and the Red (Alarm) buttons are free. Check the label on the front of the unit is not holding down the buttons. This label is a sticky label and may be removed and repositioned. CONSTANT BLEEPING FROM A UNIT Fault: The Wall Unit bleeps constantly. Cause: Check the Reset button operates freely. Check the label is not holding the button down. If unit is still bleeping change the battery UNIT CALLS BUT DOES NOT RESET To temporarily minimise the nuisance effect of this fault, the faulty unit should be isolated via the User Menu and replaced with a spare unit until the faulty unit can be repaired/replaced. BELTCLIP / PENDANT SENDS WRONG LKL (LAST KNOWN LOCATION) Fault: The LKL (Last Known Location) of a Personal Attack unit is shown in the wrong area. Cause: Ensure that Personal Attack units are worn on the outside of all clothing at all times. Do not carry units in pockets or under items of clothing. LOW BATTERY Fault: Low Battery is indicated on the Control Panel against a Unit location. Cause: The Unit s battery is low and its internal battery should be replaced. 29

RF FAIL Fault: RF Fail / RF Fault is indicated on the Control Panel against a Unit. Cause: The Unit has failed to communicate with the Control Panel. Put the unit in question into alarm and then reset it. If the alarm is NOT received or the unit does not Reset, then firstly change the battery and retry. If the unit still does not work properly then it will need to be replaced. (If it is a BeltClip unit check that it has not been taken off site accidentally after shift change. If this is the case the BeltClip unit will need to be isolated via the User Menu until it is returned to site and then the unit can be un-isolated again). A RF Fail fault will also show if any of the systems units are taken away from site without firstly isolating them from the system. TAMPER FAULT Fault: T/FLT is indicated on the Control Panel against a Ceiling Unit location. Cause: A Ceiling Unit has been taken down or tampered with. Check that the unit is attached to its base and press the White Reset button opposite the LED, the LED will stop flashing. If the unit has been taken down for any reason it will need to be powered down (see Ceiling Location Units) and the Control Panel reset to clear the Tamper Fault (T/FLT) IR FAULT Fault: IR/FLT is indicated on the Control Panel against a Unit location. Cause: There is a fault with the units Infra Red sensor. Isolate the unit via the User Menu and return the unit for repair. If a Low Battery, RF Fail, Tamper or Infra Red fault appear on the control panel the display will, for example, show ROOM 4 ROOM 4 LOW BATTERY F XX DATE TIME (or RF/FLT, T/FLT, IR/FLT) where F = fault and XX is the sensor number. The lower line of the display will alternate between the type of fault (i.e. LOW BATTERY) and details of the faulty unit (F XX DATE TIME). If the panel is in the DAY mode the Internal Buzzer will sound intermittently, pressing the Blue Button Silence will cancel the buzzer but the fault will continue to be displayed. If the panel is in NIGHT mode then the fault will only be displayed and the panel will be silent. 30

14 Service and Maintenance All Units on the system will periodically transmit their status to the Control Panel, enabling the system to monitor the functionality of all units on the system. The Control Panel will also monitor the battery levels of all the units incorporated into the system and notify you of any Low Battery faults when they arise, giving you 30 days notice before the battery becomes too low. If a fault or low battery is detected the Display will show the Sensor number and it s location along with the fault. For information about replacing the batteries in the various units please see Battery Replacement at the end of the relevant sections. For faults firstly refer to the Common Issues section, if the fault persists then contact your Installer/Supplier. Do not remove any of the Wall / Ceiling / BeltClip / Pendant units from the site as this will cause the control panel to raise a warning that a unit is missing (RF Fault will be displayed) We recommend that you have your system serviced once a year to meet with Care Standards requirements and at least once every three years to replace all system batteries. 31

APPENDIX A: Unlocking & Relocking Memory Unlocking Panel Memory Unlocking Before Editing Unit names, the memory must be enabled. To do this, Open Control Panel door and move the jumper on LK1 so that it connects both B pins. When the memory is enabled the memory LED illuminates on new panels only. (see below) To Enable Memory, a memory jumper must connect both B pins on LK1. When the Memory is Enabled this LED illuminates (New panel versions only) NOTE: (LOCKING MEMORY) To Lock Memory after programming remove the jumper from both B pins, (the Memory LED will turn off) and park the jumper on one pin only for future use. NOTE: If the control panel board has a different layout from the above images, then see below for older panel versions. 32

Older Versions of Control Panels. 1.) Link 1 (Memory Enable). Place jumper on both pins. NOTE: (LOCKING MEMORY) To Lock Memory after programming remove the jumper from both pins and park the jumper on one pin only for future use. 2.) Link 2 (Memory Enable). Place jumper on top 2 pins. NOTE: (LOCKING MEMORY) To Lock Memory after programming remove the jumper from both pins and park the jumper on one pin only for future use. 33
