EN 45545 Hazard Level 3 SPRINT Railway Cable glands for the rail industry

Made for rails The Railway Series at a glance The Railway series from WISKA is an industryspecific extension of the proven SPRINT cable gland system, which meets the specific demands of the rail industry in all respects. Since June 2013, products and materials that are used in rail transport have to be tested in accordance with the unified European fire safety standard EN 45545. After several years of research and development, WISKA has launched an innovative product line that meets with all required quality and safety standards and achieves Hazard Level 3. WISKA is also one of the first European manufacturers to have successfully tested a complete gland series in brass, polyamide and stainless steel in accordance with EN 45545. The WISKA Railway cable glands are thus the ideal combination of the highest product quality and multiple modularity that still meet all standards. They can be used by manufacturers, suppliers, and rail technology companies in all types of vehicles whether new or refurbished. Modular SPRINT cable gland system especially for rail transport Meets fire safety standard EN 45545 and the requirements of Hazard Level 3 (R22 and R23) for fire resistance E30 (30 minutes) Comprehensive range of multiple and special sealing inserts Flex protection, external strain relief as well as venting and EMC products PG, metric and NPT threads of different lengths Fulfils all protection requirements in accordance with IP 68 and IP 69K Operating temperatures from -60 C up to 100 C Gland material: Nickel-plated brass, polyamide or stainless steel; sealing material: EPDM, silicone or TPE EN 45545 EN 45545 2 3

The most innovative use of materials Within the extensive materials testing, WISKA has tested the flammability of industrial and raw materials in accordance with EN 45545-2. WISKA has tested different materials in order to achieve an optimal composition for the Railway Series. For the requirement sets R22 (indoor use) and R23 (outdoor use), the parameters of the combustible materials (plastic, sealing material) had to be checked: Requirement sets Parameters Unit Requirement HL 1 HL2 HL3 R22 R23 Oxygen index Vol.-% minimum 28 28 32 Smoke density D S max. maximum 600 300 150 Toxicity CIT NLP maximum 1,2 0,9 0,75 Oxygen index Vol.-% minimum 28 28 32 Smoke density D S max. maximum --- 600 300 Toxicity CIT NLP maximum --- 1,8 1,5 Hazard Level 3 Hazard Level 3 When considering the flammability of non-metallic materials, the WISKA Railway cable glands have achieved the following results: Cable gland series Cable gland material R 22 R 23 EMSKV RW Brass HL3 HL 3 EMSKV EMV RW Brass HL3 HL 3 EMSKV MFD RW Brass HL 3 HL 3 EMSKV LT RW Brass HL 1 HL 2 EMSKV LT EMV RW Brass HL 1 HL 2 EMSVG RW Brass HL 3 HL 3 EMSVG EMV RW Brass HL 3 HL 3 EMSVG MFD RW Brass HL 3 HL 3 EMSVG LT RW Brass HL 1 HL 2 EMSVG LT EMV RW Brass HL 1 HL 2 ESSKV RW Stainless steel HL 3 HL 3 ESSKV EMV RW Stainless steel HL 3 HL 3 ESSKV MFD RW Stainless steel HL 3 HL 3 ESSKV LT RW Stainless steel HL 1 HL 2 ESSKV LT EMV RW Stainless steel HL 1 HL 2 ESSVG RW Stainless steel HL 3 HL 3 ESSVG EMV RW Stainless steel HL 3 HL 3 ESSVG MFD RW Stainless steel HL 3 HL 3 ESSVG LT RW Stainless steel HL 1 HL 2 ESSVG LT EMV RW Stainless steel HL 1 HL 2 ESKV RW (M12 M32) Polyamide HL 3 HL 3 ESKV RW (M40 M63) Polyamide HL 2 HL 3 ESKV MFD RW (M12 M32) Polyamide HL 3 HL 3 ESKV MFD RW (M40 M63) Polyamide HL 2 HL 3 ESKV-F LT Polyamide HL 1 HL 2 4 5

Reliable integrity The integrity testing in accordance with EN 45545-3 entails preserving the separation of two adjacent regions in the rail vehicle to prevent the transmission of flames and smoke. For the WISKA Railway series, this means that no fire and smoke should penetrate the glands over a certain period of time. Depending on the source of fire, the area to be protected and the operating class of the rail vehicle are distinguished between an integrity for 15 minutes (E15) and 30 minutes (E30). 1 2 4 7 6 5 8 3 SPRINT variable, reliable, cost-effective and innovative For over 25 years, the modular SPRINT series has been popular as an efficient and reliable cable gland system for various areas of application such as the rail and maritime industries. It is constantly evolving. Other benefits of SPRINT All SPRINT advantages of course can be adapted for the Railway series. For rail transport SPRINT has all cable glands in the materials polyamide, brass and stainless steel, for which all sealing inserts are identical. WISKA has tested various cable glands with a wide variety of cables in burn-through tests with temperatures of up to 900 C from inside and outside, as well as in the vertical and horizontal positions. Test plate 1 9 10 11 Of the 88 gland/cable combinations tested, all achieved integrity E15 and 85 achieved integrity E30. This means that the WISKA Railway cable glands can provide a suitable gland with integrity E30 and thus fulfil the highest requirements of standard EN 45545-3. 12 13 15 17 16 14 EMC gland, vibration-proof and 360 protection VentGLAND -cable gland with pressure compensation to prevent condensation water Fulfils E30 18 20 Test plate 2 21 19 22 Cable gland Cable Position SIENOPYR (180) (N) HXSGAF HXOE 3600 V 185 M 180 C (1) EMSKV 50 RW SIENOPYR (120) (N) HXSGAF HXOE 150 3,6/6 kv (9) SIENOPYR (180) (N) HXSGAF HXOE 3600 V 185 M 180 C (2) EMSKV 40 RW RADOX 3 GKW/S 7G 1,5 mm² (5) SIENOPYR (120) (N) HXSGAF HXOE 150 3,6/6 kv (10) RHEYHALON NSHXAFOE EN 1,8/3 kv 1800 V 95 (3) EMSKV 32 RW RADOX GKW-LW/S 36x1,5 mm² (11) RADOX GKW-LW/S 36x1,5 mm² (4) RHEYHALON NSHXAFOE EN 1,8/3 kv 1800 V 95 (6) EMSKV 25 RW RHEYHALON HXSLOE-OZ 600 V 3x6 M (7) RADOX 3 GKW/S 4G 4 mm² (8) RHEYHALON HXSLOE-OZ 600 V 3x6 M (13) EMSKV 20 RW RADOX 3 GKW/S 7G 1,5 mm² (17) RADOX 3 GKW/S 4G 4 mm² (21) BETATRANS GKW C-FLEX R 600/1000 V 2x0,75 mm² (14) EMSKV 16 RW RADOX GKW-LW/S EMC 6x0,75 mm² (20) RHEYHALON HXAF 0,6/1 kv 600 V 16F (22) BETATRANS GKW C-FLEX R 600/1000 V 2x0,75 mm² (16) EMSKV 12 RW RADOX GKW-LW/S EMC 6x0,75 mm² (18) RHEYHALON HXAF 0,6/1 kv 600 V 16F (19) EMSKV 16 EMV-Z RW RADOX GKW-LW/S EMC 6x0,75 mm² (12) EMSKV 12 EMV-Z RW RADOX GKW-LW/S EMC 6x0,75 mm² (15) Cable gland with flex protection to maintain the cable Various multiple, reduction and special sealing inserts for various cable types and materials Cable gland with external strain relief for increased fixation of the cable Identical clamping ranges for all cable glands, for easy replacement and easy assembly 6 7
