DESCRIPTION: Bell Helicopter has introduced a rain gutter to the right side of the airframe to provide additional water protection. Applicability of this bulletin to any spare part shall be determined prior to its installation on an affected helicopter. WARRANTY: Owners / Operators of Bell Helicopters who comply with the instructions in this Bulletin will be eligible to receive KIT CT-505-18-07 as applicable, listed in the bulletin. Bell Helicopter has recently introduced enhancements to the VISTA Portal which allocates specific warranty entitlement for an aircraft by serial number. The Product Service Letter (PSL) number which will be listed below the bulletin number on the introduction page is going to be a required field when submitting a claim for replacement parts, labor, and/or freight. If you receive an ASB or TB that does not have a PSL number, then there is no warranty entitlement for that bulletin. ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Prepare the helicopter for maintenance. 2. Remove upper right protective trim located above the right passenger seat. Page 3 of 7
3. On the upper right sidebody (1, Figure 1), remove the twenty-three highlighted fasteners (2). 4. Inspect the condition of the fastener holes. a. If the fastener holes are damaged, refer to the BHT-ALL-SRM Chapter 3, paragraph 3.4.3 Riveted Structures for repairs. b. If the fastener holes exceed the limits of the BHT-ALL-SRM, submit the details to Product Support Engineering at pselight@bellflight.com. Refer to the General Information Letter IL GEN-04-96 for the procedures on submitting a structural repair request. 5. Locate the rain gutter (2, Figure 2) in position on the right sidebody (1), and align the pilot holes. CAUTION The use of a drill stop is recommended to prevent damage to the longeron (4). 6. Enlarge the twenty-three pilot holes on the rain gutter (2) to 0.164 to 0.167 inch (4.17 to 4.24 mm) with a number 19 drill bit. 7. Remove the rain gutter (2) and deburr all the fastener holes. 8. If holes indicated in NOTE 1 (Figure 2) do not align, it is permissible to elongate the holes to remove the noted misalignment as follows: a. After locating and drilling the indicated holes from the right sidebody (1) into the rain gutter (2) it is acceptable to have misaligned holes in the rain gutter (2). If there is a misalignment of the holes (center to center) in the rain gutter (2), proceed as follows: (1) If the misalignment is less than 0.030 inch (0.762 mm) fill the hole in the rain gutter (2) with sealant (C-251) and install fastener (3) wet with sealant (C- 251). (2) If the misalignment is between 0.030 to 0.130 inch (0.762 to 3.302 mm) slot or elongate hole in the rain gutter (2), and add a washer (NAS1149CN816R) under the fastener (3) head prior to the installation. Fasteners (3) shall be installed wet with sealant (C-251). Overcoat the washer (NAS1149CN816R) and fastener (3) head with sealant (C-251). (3) If the misalignment exceeds 0.130 inch (3.302 mm), contact Product Support Engineering at pselight@belllfight.com NOTE 1 (Figure 2). 9. Clean all components with Aliphatic Naphtha (C-305). 10. Apply sealant (C-251) to the faying surface of the rain gutter (2). 11. Locate the rain gutter (2) in position and wet install fasteners (3) with sealant (C- 251). 12. Apply a bead of sealant (C-251) to the contour of the rain gutter (2). 13. Apply wet, unreduced primer (C-204) to the head portion of the fasteners (3, Figure 2, Section A-A). 14. Refinish external paint as required (BHT-ALL-SPM). 15. Re-install the upper right protective trim located above the passenger seat. 16. Make an entry in the helicopter logbook and historical service records indicating compliance with this Technical Bulletin. Page 5 of 7
