Patent Pending invent for New Construction Users Manual 3.0

2 Introduction Your new invent for New Construction manual register is an energy saving and comfort enhancing device. The unit works by replacing an existing supply register and enables homeowners to manually adjust the amount of airflow coming through the duct system and into the room. By restricting the amount of air that goes into unused or over conditioned rooms, users re-direct conditioned air into rooms that are used and or under conditioned. As a result, in the properly installed system, HVAC unit can run shorter cycles that translate into energy savings and increased comfort. The invent register also provides enhanced airflow distribution that results in a better mixing of the conditioned air with the existing room air, all while reducing the noise and direct drafts when compared to traditional metal registers. Specifications Please visit www.advectorsystems.com for full specifications. Please visit http://www.advectorsystems.com/pdf-documents/invent_nc_users_manual.pdf for the most current users manual information. Installation It is recommended that you install Advector System s Duct Transition prior to installing sheet rock. Locate all included accessories that came with your invent for New Construction register: (3) #10 mounting screws (1)gasket (1)Twist Ring Use Duct Transition s inner cylinder edges as a guide to cut the surface hole. Place and center the Twist Ring over the surface hole and mark the location of one of the 3 screw holes. Refer to Figure 1. Figure 1: Twist Ring With a 9/64 drill bit drill over the marked location. For proper installation, it is important to drill through drywall and Duct Transition s Mounting Plate that is located from the other side of the drywall. Failure to do so will result in improper installation. Place the Twist Ring in place so the holes are aligned and install a mounting screw through drilled hole, and re-center the Twist Ring. Tighten the mounting screw. Mark the location of the 2 nd screw hole on the Twist Ring and drill through drywall and Duct Transitions Mounting Plate. Install 2 nd mounting screw. Make sure that the Twist Ring remains flat and does not start to bend as the second screw is installed. Tighten the 2 nd mounting screw.

3 Repeat same steps for the 3 rd screw. Refer to Figure 2. Figure 2: Screw Installation Install the optional gasket into the gasket groove. Refer to Figure 3. Secure with adhesive if needed. Figure 3: invent Position invent for New Construction mounting tabs such that they are slightly away from Twist Ring tabs. Insert the register into the Duct Transition cylinder and press against the drywall turning it clockwise. Stop turning after invent mounting tabs securely latch and you feel resistance when they reach limiter. Refer to Figure 4. Figure 4: invent Installation

4 In cases where the mounting surface is uneven, or a fully sealed installation is required, apply caulking along invent edges as needed. Operation Instructions Turn disk cover counterclockwise to open or increase (counterclockwise to close or decrease) the amount of air coming into the room. There are approximately 13 full turns from fully closed to fully open position. The amount of air that comes through the invent may not be linear to the number of turns as the airflow amount entering a room is affected by other factors such as duct size, duct length, and open/close positions of the other registers. Balancing Airflow To balance an over conditioned room, move disk cover two full turns from the fully open position towards the close position and rerun conditioning cycle. Repeat until the room is conditioned to the desired level within the full conditioning cycle. If there is more than one room that is over conditioned, adjust all invent for New Construction registers at the same time and test by running a full conditioning cycle. To balance under conditioned room, move disk cover to fully open position and move disk covers in all other rooms ½ turn towards close position. Test by re-running conditioning cycle. Repeat the process until the room is balanced to the required level. If there is more than one room that is under conditioned, adjust all invent for New Construction registers at the same time and test by running a full conditioning cycle. Special Considerations The invent for New Construction register optimizes airflow distribution and allows users to adjust amount of airflow coming into a room. While doing so, the register exhibits higher flow impedance than standard metal registers. If invent for New Construction registers are not installed in all rooms then rooms that have non-invent registers may get more airflow even if all invent for New Construction registers are fully open. It is therefore advised that all registers be replaced with invent register type to enable users to balance HVAC airflow appropriately for all rooms. For safe and proper operation, your heating and cooling unit may require at least 60% of the total register airflow. To ensure that your system has sufficient airflow for safe and proper operation, a safe rule is to always have at least 60% of registers fully open. If you are unsure whether your selected register settings result in the minimum airflow required for safe and proper operation of your heating and cooling unit please consult with licensed HVAC installation professional before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in insufficient airflow for your heating and cooling units, which in turn may cause coil freezes, HVAC unit restarts, or other conditions that are not optimal and may be damaging to your heating and cooling unit. If you experience any of these symptoms, turn all invent for New Construction registers to full open position immediately and contact a licensed HVAC installation professional. When installing invent for New Construction, do not force the unit into place. Be sure that the surface hole has required dimensions and that invent for New Construction can fit inside register box properly. For proper operation of the invent for New Construction register and your heating and cooling system and to avoid air leakage, all duct work must be properly installed and sealed. Leaky ducts may negate any energy savings that result from redistribution of air from rooms where invent for New Construction registers restrict air. In areas of your home that may be subject to temperature extremes, make sure that the use of the invent for New Construction register will not cause problems such as freezing of water pipes. The invent for New Construction has a maximum open and close positions. Never try to force open or close positions beyond these points. Failure to do so may result in permanent damage to the register. Follow installation instructions carefully. Ensure that the unit is securely installed and that it cannot fall down. Failure to properly install and secure invent for New Construction may result in unit falling down and causing bodily injury. Caulking around the edges may be required to prevent additional noise that results from air moving through gaps between drywall and invent for New Construction edges.
