Technical Data Sheet BOOST8n Domestic fire sprinkler pump system complying with and significantly surpassing BS9251 2014 Industry leading fire sprinkler pump system with plc control and simple LCD screen with product and system information Automatic weekly testing is carried out on the fire pump and the starting pressure switches (as EN12845). Any failure is reported via a fault output and displayed on screen providing reliability and resilience Screen showing the weekly test has passed P1 pressure switch 1 went low pressure P2 pressure switch 1 went low pressure P1H pressure switch 2 returned healthy P2H pressure switch 2 returned healthy Our innovative flow control system shows our understanding of domestic fire sprinkler installations and problems contractors need to overcome. Flow controlled pumps can reduce tank size, saving valuable space and upfront costs (for town main boosting see page 4) The pump acts as a jockey pump and then a fire pump if required, with an automatic cooling line (as EN12845) Engineers know what's happening with the system at all times NEW PRODUCT FEATURES The flow switch gives a fault signal when the pump is latched then a 20 second flow counter displays on screen until the fire alarm signal is given, reducing false alarms as the British standard demands PRODUCT FEATURES Two pressure switches giving switch backup (as EN12845) Failsafe wiring the pressure switch circuits will operate the pump if they go open circuit (as EN12845) Jockey pump the pump will operate for 8 seconds to remake pressure loss Fire pump the pump will operate if pressure is not maintained after a jockey run, with LCD and fault indication Comprehensive Combined Alarms; Weekly test failed, jockey limit, fire pump on demand (EN12845), annual test due and power failure- available as open on fault, SPDT optional Auto Cooling, if the fire pump operates, the solenoid valve opens every 20 seconds for 2 seconds to cool the impeller ensuring functionality even when a property is unoccupied. Automotive technology, a black electrophoretic bonded paint finish is applied to the pipe work inside and out, giving better protection and an attractive finish LPCB approved fire rated power and alarm cables Tel: +44 (0)1625 575514 sales@grifen.co.uk www.grifen.co.uk

FLOW CONTROL SYSTEM are a fire sprinkler product designer and manufacturer, not a pump manufacturer and we understand the regulations of systems and the implications on site, as a result we are able to provide systems that work for you and the end user. Our two unique flow controlled pump sets (B230-21 and B230-25/85) give the following benefits; Cavitation of the pump is not possible Q max is limited allowing tank size to be more easily calculated and reduced in size The product is configured for tank fed systems and is designed to give better functionality than BS9251 2014 and excellent competitiveness. NEW BOOST8n FEATURES Weekly test failed (updated), now remembered on screen after power down, if the householder turns off the power a small black square remains on the screen until the next weekly test is passed, the fault alarm will stay on during power fail and return when power is reapplied Solenoid activation displayed every time the solenoid operates SOL appears on screen Flow switch pre wired with plc controlled delay and visual LCD 20 second counter, when the pump is latched and the flow counter reaches 20 seconds the fire alarm contact changes state, This alarm operates when the fire pump is on demand reducing false alarms as required by BS9251 2014. FIRE ALARM silencing If filling/ refilling a system the fire alarm will trigger after 20 seconds of flow but you can silence it very easily before it even operates, so no need to go off watch/ cause disturbance), it can t be silenced at any other time. ANNUUAL SERVICE force on the service facility can be forced on ahead of time allowing improved planning of time ANNUAL SERVICE silencing, the annual service fault can be silenced for 2 weeks at a time Button depressed when the button is pressed an @ appears on screen allowing you to know for certain the button is pressed and allowing accurate timing TOWN MAIN BOOSTING BOOST8n can be configured for town main boosting. We need to know; Flow rate from the main is higher than the pump can deliver The static pressure of the main in order to set the pressure switch correctly, please note if the main has a high static pressure we may have to fit a different pressure gauge and switch. To use the town main you will need permission from the water board and fit a suitable non return valve on the incoming supply The solenoid will always dump water every week, as a responsible company we would recycle that waste water, we hope you will do the same The maximum pressure of the pump and main must be below 10 bars OTHER CONSIDERATIONS Alarm obligations under BS9251:2014 Fault alarm required for: power failed (monitored by BOOST8n as standard) automatic test failed (monitored by BOOST8n as standard) Low water level (optional if you want us to monitor it, the fault will be displayed on screen and transmitted on the fault signal) Must be heard or seen in occupied part of building. All electrically operated alarm devices should be capable of carrying out their function in the event of a complete failure of the mains electrical power supply.

STATUS INDICATORS AND ALARMS Events are displayed on the LCD screen and the fault alarm covering the following conditions to make fault finding simpler; Jockey stop/ start alarm - Check for possible leaks Weekly test failed pump, contactor, solenoid, pressure switch failure Weekly test passed LCD only Fire pump latched (pump on demand EN12845) Annual service due/ failed keeps the system in compliance annually, with your company name and phone number Power supply warnings AC failure (also 24VDC with optional tank low level SET UP AND SELF COMMISSIONING The pump will run until both pressures are healthy and there is no more flow. The filling sequence will stop after 2 minutes, enabling the system to go into auto mode, enabling the fault alarm to be active if needed P U M P P U R G E D P U M P W I L L S T A R T P 1 P 2 A start up screen gives anyone the chance to switch off if not purged/ valves open etc When the pump starts it displays this screen (right) during filling if any input device is unhealthy it will display in real time and extinguish when healthy. P1 pressure switch number 1 P2 Pressure switch number 2 FS flow switch and its operational time P U M P R U N & F I L L I N G P 1 P 2 F S L L The fire signal will trigger after 20 seconds of continuous flow, the fire signal can be disabled for the fill period which is 2 minutes. A new feature brings the product out of fill mode ensuring the pump could latch and give the fault alarm if necessary. NORMAL OPERATION When the system is OK, the time and date flash intermittently. The product s weekly test is time and date stamped by this clock. The jockey pump function is operational for the first time this hour, it has run for 5 of its 8 second run time (centre below) If the jockey pump operates more than 8 times in an hour JOCKEY LIMIT appears on the screen and fault alarm and screen can be cleared A U T O M O D E A U T O M O D E A U T O M O D E S Y S T E M O K J O C K E Y N O 1 J O C K E Y 1 8 / 0 5 / 2 0 1 5 T I M E 5 / 8 L I M I T 1 The product keeps a count of the number of times it starts as a jockey pump. This aims to give pre failure warnings due to any system or product leaks. The jockey counter resets every hour if less than 8 starts have occurred. The system will keep a count of the number of times jockey limit has been reached, shown in the bottom right of the screen, it can not be cleared

THE AUTOMATIC WEEKLY TEST SUPASSING BS 9251 2014 BASED ON EN12845 PRINCIPALS TESTED AUTOMATICALLY every Monday at 10am PRESSURE DROP TEST PEFORMED (EN12845) 2 NORMALLY CLOSED PRESSURE SWITCHES TESTED ON EACH PUMP (EN12845) ALARM IN FAILURE OR POWER DOWN SIMPLE RECORD KEPT IF ALL CONDITIONS ARE NOT HEALTHY ON DEMAND WEEKLY TEST AT ANY TIME REQUIRED A U T O M O D E W E E K L Y T E S T F A I L P 1 WEEKLY TEST The system is in automatic mode, but the last weekly test failed The cause of the failure was P1. The system can also indicate P2 failure or both. P1 or P2 will fail if they don t go unhealthy during the solenoid drain, they must be healthy at the end of the pump run sequence, The black square in the corner indicates this weekly test has failed. If the power is cycled and this square is on the screen, the last test failed. The square will only extinguish and the alarm clear when a successful test is completed. A weekly test will always repeat the next week, whether it passed or failed The pump can be tested manually at any time (by following a simple step, the auto test will then be repeated) NB If service is due on screen a 6 minute service run will take priority, the auto test will still take place. To perform a manual on demand weekly test a successful service must be performed first. FIRE PUMP AND ALARMS P U M P L A T C H E D + F I R E A L A R M P 1 F A U L T S O L P 1 F S 2 0 PUMP LATCHED (fault alarm condition changed state),(en12845 - fire pump on demand) the pump will now run continually until switched off at the mains +FIRE ALARM indicates the flow switch has been flowing for 20 seconds, the fire alarm signal will now have changed state SOL The solenoid is cooling the pump P1 fault (could also indicate P2 or both) this indicates which pressure switch was unhealthy when the pump latched after the jockey sequence P1 (bottom row) indicates P1 is currently at low pressure (could also indicate P2) ANNUAL SERVICE A U T O M O D E S E R V I C E D U E 1 9 / 0 5 / 2 0 1 5 When an annual service is due the screen will scroll with the purchasers name and phone number when this occurs the general alarm will change state. To reset the annual service (beyond silencing) screen and alarm a successful test must be carried out. The annual test must check the correct function of the pump and all the switches. If it passes the unit will warn again in 12 months, if fails it will alarm and must be repeated and pass to clear the fault SERVICES to be carried out by fire sprinkler companies, ensuring ongoing compliance with BS9251 2014. If an annual service is not carried out the system will still function as normal. At any time when the annual test is carried out correctly the alarm will silence for one year. The pump system can be forced to do an annual service before it is due, BOOST8n will call for a service in 1 year regardless of whether it is forced on or not If the pump is switched off the power failed alarm will operate. When power is restored the device will remember its last annual status and operate the alarm if a test remains due. The sprinkler system can remain pressurised at all building levels when maintenance is being carried out. The flow test can be carried out on the pump only ensuring the motor and impeller are capable of the duty at the correct pressure, ignoring any hydrostatic head.
