DPS Hi-Flow Mains Pressure Hot Water from an existing vented copper cylinder... Converts an existing hot water cylinder to provide potable mains pressure hot water at high flow rates to all existing outlets. Allows the cold water tank to be removed, freeing loft space. The DPS Hi-Flow converts the cylinder into a 'battery' for storing heat, known as a thermal store or Heat Bank. Instead of feeding taps, the water in the cylinder is circulated through a plate heat exchanger which extracts the heat from the stored water and uses it to heat up pressurized mains water for taps. The stored water is never under pressure - the cylinder remains vented to atmosphere at all times. The only water under pressure is the mains domestic water, which is always kept completely separate from the stored water. The system can be installed by any competent plumber - there is no legal requirement for the installer to to be trained in the installation of unvented systems. As the stored water within the cylinder does not mix with the domestic water, corrosion inhibitor may be added into the cylinder to protect the body of the cylinder as well as any heating coils or immersion heaters. It is important to understand that the stored water never changes and no fresh water is introduced. Hence, no limescale is introduced, preventing scale build up in the cylinder over time. Only thermal stores offer this level of protection - all other storage systems (including standard vented systems and unvented cylinders) have to contend with scale build up, and this will determine their operating life. Anti-freeze may also be added to enable the cylinder to be left in sub-zero temperatures without needing to drain down, should the premises be left unoccupied. No adjustments need to be made to the existing primary system - the cylinder is heated in exactly the same way as before, by boiler or immersion heater. The most obvious benefit of the DPS Hi-Flow is the large flow rates of hot water that can be obtained. The graph opposite shows the flow rates that may typically be drawn off at various storage temperatures. A typical installation will provide 24 litres of potable (safe to drink) hot water per minute, easily enough to feed two outlets simultaneously. This means that a shower will not suddenly go cold when a second tap is opened.
Installation of the DPS Hi-Flow The following drawings show how a typical vented hot water system can be converted using the DPS Hi-Flow. The drawings do not show how the cylinder is heated - this will typically be achieved by either an indirect primary coil connected to a boiler, or by an electrical immersion heaters. Typical vented system. Layout of converted system. The converted cylinder will require connection to a feed and expansion (F&E) tank. This is used to initially fill the cylinder, and to accommodate the expansion and contraction of the stored water as it is heated and cooled. In some instances there will be a feed and expansion tank in existence used by the central heating system, removing the need for an additional tank to be fitted. The DPS Hi-Flow is available with a fitted thermostatic blending valve to allow accurate control of the hot water supply temperature. The unit measures 250mm x 350mm x 120mm, and is supplied pre-wired for easy installation. Dedicated Pressure Systems Ltd. R/O Shops, 9-25 Manor Green Road, Epsom, Surrey KT19 8RA. DPS Boiler Master Mk2 BV Mains Pressure Hot Water with No Hot or Cold Water Storage The DPS Boiler Master is a self-contained, pre-plumbed and pre-wired, unit designed to provide mains pressure hot water from a boiler circuit, without the need for water storage. Ideal for use on district heating and central boiler applications. Space Saving 350mm wide x 350mm high x 150mm deep The smallest and most efficient conversion unit on the market. The Boiler Master extracts heat from a boiler circuit and uses this to heat up mains cold water, as follows: 1. A flow switch within the Boiler Master detects when a hot water outlet is opened. The valve is energized allowing hot water from the boiler to flow through the heat exchanger. 2. The plate heat exchanger within the Boiler Master transfers heat from the hot water in the boiler circuit to the incoming mains water. This water is tempered by the built-in Thermostatic Blending Valve. The Y-Pattern Strainer protects the internal components from particles of grit in the cold mains water supply. Numerous heat transfer plates within the heat exchanger keep the primary boiler water completely separate from the mains water, allowing each to operate independently at up to 5 bar pressure. The heat exchangers themselves are tested to 10 bar pressure. The Boiler Master can deliver hot water continuously at a rate determined by the input from the boiler, up to a maximum heat transfer rate in the region of 100kW, equivalent to over 30 litres per minute of domestic hot water, providing the boiler can supply the heat and the pump capable of delivering the flow rate required. The Boiler Master is fully assembled, wired and tested to ensure all components are working and that all pipework is leak free. It comes in an attractive white metal casing, with three keyholes provided for easy wall mounting. The fly lead should be connected into an adjacent 3amp fuse spur. DPS SHOWER Master Patent applied for 9914072.5 Mains Pressure Hot Water Conversion Unit Convert any standard boiler into a combination boiler, without replacing or upgrading the boiler or any other existing components. Continuous, uninterrupted hot water, upon demand, without any need for hot water storage. Obtain high pressure hot water supplies without pumps, unvented cylinders or electric shower units. Provide high quality showers which do not suddenly go cold when other hot water outlets are open. Do away with the cold tank and hot water cylinder completely, if desired. The smallest conversion unit on the market, only 270mm wide x 350mm high x 120mm deep. The DPS ShowerMaster is a self-contained unit designed to provide mains pressure domestic hot water from a boiler, without the need for hot or cold water storage. The ShowerMaster is retro-fitted to an existing system to provide an addition source of hot water. The operation of the existing system is not altered, however the ShowerMaster will make full use of the boiler when mains pressure hot water is required at outlets, by-passing all other loads (such as the central heating or a hot water cylinder). As a result, the ShowerMaster can supply hot water at a rate limited by the size of the boiler. The provision of an additional hot water source makes the ShowerMaster perfect for supplying a dedicated shower unit. Unlike other systems where the hot water supply to the shower must be taken from the same source as all other hot water outlets, the use of a dedicated shower supply ensures that the shower will not suddenly go cold when another hot water outlet is opened. Instead, the ShowerMaster supplies the shower, while the hot water cylinder supplies all other outlets. In some cases, the amount of hot water that the ShowerMaster supplies is enough to supply the whole property. In these situations it becomes possible to remove the existing hot water cylinder and cold water tank completely. All hot water outlets can be fed from the Shower Master and all cold outlets fed directly off the mains. The existing boiler remains, and should not need to be altered in any way. The ShowerMaster extracts heat from a boiler circuit and uses this to heat up mains cold water, as follows: 1. A flow switch within the ShowerMaster detects when there is a hot water outlet open, and immediately operates a motorised three-port valve, redirecting the flow from the boiler through the heat exchanger. 2. At the same time, the flow switch operates a relay switch which in turn switches on the boiler and primary pump, providing heat. The ShowerMaster bypasses demand from the central heating allowing the full boiler output to be utilised for hot water. 3. The plate heat exchanger within the ShowerMaster transfers heat from the hot water in the boiler circuit flow to mains domestic water, thereby providing hot water to the taps. 4. When all hot outlets are closed, the three-port valve redirects the boiler flow back to its usual route. Numerous heat transfer plates within the heat exchanger keep the primary boiler water completely separate from the mains water, allowing each to operate independently at up to 5 bar pressure. The heat exchangers themselves are tested to 10 bar pressure. The ShowerMaster is fully assembled, wired and tested to ensure all components are working and that all pipework is leak free. It comes in an attractive white metal casing, with three keyholes provided for easy wall mounting.
