Beam 10 ft. 3 in. Draft 4ft. 9 in. Displacement 12,500 lbs. Ballast 5,000 lbs. Sail area 504 sq. ft. Mast height above water - 47 ft. Average headroom 6ft. 4 in. Fuel Capacity 36 gallons Water Capacity 80 gallons (two 40 gal. tanks) Sail Description Cutter Rig Main 210 sq. ft. Staysail 120 sq. ft. Jib 174 sq. ft. Jiffy reefing with two rows of reef points Halyards rigged back to the cockpit with sheet stoppers in front of Lewmar self tailing winches. Engine Universal M-25XP Diesel Cruise RPM Approx. 2000 PRE-START CHECKS: 1. Check engine oil, dipstick located on stbd. side of engine. Engine uses Amsoil. DO NOT use any other type of engine oil. Spare Amsoil located on board in cockpit locker. 2. Check transmission oil level. Dipstick is located on port top of transmission. Use ONLY Amsoil AFT provided. 3. Check stuffing box. PSS dripless (should not drip). 4. Check for debris and grass in seastrainer and clean if necessary. Strainer is located fwd. of engine. Close red handle by strainer before cleaning strainer Important: Open red handle valve before starting engine. Raw water seacock is left open. It is located in bottom of port cockpit locker.

5. Check the three batteries under fwd. end of stbd. quarterberth. Use distilled water. Water should cover plates and up to the bottom of the fill holes but not overfilled. 6. Leave battery switch in House position #1. 7. Check fuel valve on, located on top of diesel tank under the floor. Just ahead of the engine. (Cabin sole pullers located in holders on side.) Check fuel with dipstick on top of tank. 8. Check fuel filter bowl for water. 9. Make sure shift lever, black knob to port side of wheel is in neutral. (Engine will start in gear. Avoid this as serious damage or injury can result.) 10. Advance red throttle knob lever 1/3 to ½ when engine is cold. A warm engine requires less throttle on starting. 11. Turn on key and depress preheat button for 30 sec. WHILE STILL DEPRESSING PREHEAT BUTTON, push starter. When engine starts reduce RPM to fast idle. 12. Engine alarm buzzer and lights should extinguish within 5 8 seconds as engine oil comes up to operating pressure and alternator begins to charge. If alarms fail to quit in this time, shut engine down immediately and find cause of trouble. 13. Immediately check for adequate water discharge from exhaust while engine is running. PERIODICALLY check for water discharge while underway. 14. Monitory engine gauges while underway and be alert for odd sounds or other indications of impending problems. 15. Idle the engine for a five minute cool-down period before shutting down. The engine shut down handle is located in the cockpit near instrument panel. 16. Pull engine shut-down lever and stop engine BEFORE turning key off. Failure to follow this sequence can cause expensive alternator damage. 17. If engine doesn t start on House #1, place switch in Both position to add emergency start battery. Once started, switch should be moved back to position #1. Never switch to Off FUEL: The engine uses #2 diesel fuel. Fill through deck filler cap labeled Diesel. There is a dipstick in the top aft end of fuel tank. Care should be taken not to unscrew dipstick after topping off fuel tank, as fuel in fill pipe will cause an overflow. MANUEVERING: 1. Gretel II has a L.H. propeller and will prop-walk to stbd. when in reverse. Steerage is minimal in reverse and will answer best to small helm corrections. Large helm correction while in reverse will result in loss of steerage. The vessel will respond smartly in either direction when moving forward. 2. When shifting transmission from forward to reverse or vice-versa, hesitate in neutral or the engine will cause expensive DAMAGE to the transmission. 3. 2000 RPM is an efficient cruising speed for the engine. Faster speeds will result in much greater fuel consumption and engine wear with little increase in speed.

GALLEY: 1. Three burner propane stove with oven. 2. To operate stove, turn on propane at tank (located in a stbd. lazerette locker) then turn on stove switch on electrical panel. This activates the safety propane shut-off switch. Burners and oven have igniters. In case igniters fail to function, use hand ignitor or matches. 3. The vessel is equipped with an ice box, which drains to bilge. Please see that food particles do not fall into ice box compartment and clog drain hose. 4. Hand broom and dustpan located in tall locker. 5. The pressure water system is activated by the switch on the electrical panel. The two water tanks of 40 gallon capacity are filled from the deck. The manifold is located under the fwd. end of the cabin sole by shower sump. It is a good idea to draw from the stbd. tank until empty, then switch over by closing the stbd. tank outlet valve, then opening port outlet valve. This procedure allows for a reserve and an awareness of water consumption. Your other option is to run off both tanks and fill on a regular basis. 6. Hot water is obtained from shore power when in use and switch is on, or from an engine heat exchanger when underway. CAUTION: Be sure water pressure switch is ON before water heater switch is turned on at the AC circuit breaker to prevent damage to the heating element of the water heater. 7. There are foot operated pumps in galley: Freshwater is inboard and saltwater is outboard. Proper valves will need to be opened to use. If using salt water to wash dishes, rinse w/fresh water to prevent salt damage to pots and pans. HEAD: 1. Shower water pressure is activated by water pressure switch on electrical panel. Hot water is available as noted. Shower SUMP BREAKER must be ON @ DC panel. 2. Sump pump is automatic. Wipe down all wooden surfaces after showering. 3. Head Discharge: To flush toilet move handle to wet bowl position and operate pump. Move handle to dry bowl and pump bowl empty. Leave valve handle in dry bowl position. Head is normally set to pump into holding tank. Wye valve is secured in holding tank position located under sink. Direct discharge thru hull under sink should be closed. In an emergency the wye valve tie can be cut and the handle turned for overboard. Open the over board thru hull. Now head will discharge directly overboard. NOT LEGAL IN US WATERS. 4. Holding tank discharge: Option 1: Pump out holding tank at shore side facility using deck waste fitting on stbd. side forward of mid ship. Option 2: Open holding tank thru hull located in aft stbd. V berth compartment. The handle has a proximity switch attached to prevent damage to the pump. Once the thru hull is open, turn pump on at electrical panel. Once holding tank is empty indicated by seeing or hearing bubbles from thru hull turn off switch at panel and close thru hull. NOT LEGAL IN US WATERS. A Tank watch holding tank alert system, located near the Nav station, will indicate a full holding tank when red light comes on. It s best to empty tank before it becomes completely full.

5. The HOLDING tank is only approximately 12 gallons, so it needs to be emptied frequently. CABIN HEAT: 1. The Espar Diesel Heater is operated by the switch and thermostat located on the side of the Nav Station. Make sure you have good voltage, low voltage will cause the heater to stop in the start up cycle and could prevent the heater from restarting. Best to be on battery charger or engine running. Turn on small switch and turn up thermostat. Wait until heater is running then thermostat can be turned down. When heater is shut off it will continue to run a few minutes in a cool down cycle ELECTRICAL: DO NOT CHANGE POSITION OF BATTERY SWITCH WHILE ENGINE IS ON!! 1. Batteries are located under the starboard quarter berth. Check condition weekly as detailed under Pre-Start Check. 2. BEFORE starting and while motoring, keep battery switch in House position #1. Switch located on side of nav seat orange 3. When engine is off, battery switch remains in House position #1. 4. Battery switch only placed in Both if needed to start engine. Rest of time leave in House position #1. 5. Use battery power sparingly. Be advised it takes much longer (about 4 5 times) to recharge batteries with the same unit of electrical power, than it takes to consume it. 6. When on shore power the A/C battery charger switch should be on and the batteries charging from the Lewco charger located in the Port cockpit locker. Charger is wired directly to each battery, so the battery selector switch should be in the house position. 7. Electronics are activated from circuit breakers on electrical panel and individual switches on units as equipped. Switches on back of units. 8. 12 volt outlet located on side of nav station. INSTRUMENTS Activates the GARMIN GPS 9. Ship s Log located overhead, on bulkhead behind Nav Stn. Additional swith for electronics located next to it. This switch generally remains in the ON position. **N.B.DEPTH SOUNDER, LOG, WIND INSTRUMENTS will not work if this switch is off!!! 10. Entry DOORS are removable by lifting them out of the half-barrel hinges and should be closed or stowed below when underway, to permit viewing of the depth sounder and other instruments. Companionway hatch boards are located in the tall locker stbd of the entry steps for use in heavier weather. BILGE PUMPS: 1. Electric bilge pump is activated by switch on electrical panel. It can be manually turned ON and OFF with panel switch. When 2. Manual hand pump is on starboard side of cockpit. Check and locate operating handle before departing.

ANCHORING: 1. The vessel is equipped with two anchors, chain and line. The main anchor is a 25 lb. CQR with 80 feet of 3/8 chain attached to 200 feet of 5/8 line. The main bow anchor is handled with a hand operated Simpson-Lawrence SL555 anchor windlass. Handle is Flat Bar secured next to windlass small wheel is brake, handle ratchets. 2. Secondary or spare anchor is a 15 lb. Davis with 15 feet of 5/16 chain and 150 feet of 5/16 rode. This is located in the Port lazarette & stern rail. DINGHY: 1. Sorensen 8- foot with oars. PERSONAL FLOATATION: 1. One horseshoe buoy. Life jackets are stowed in aft stbd settee lockers behind cushions. CLEAN-UP: 1. Clean ice box and leave lid open for ventilation. 2. Clean stove and oven. 3. Clean sinks, dry all wood surfaces and leave sink covers open for ventilation. 4. Wash dishes and stow. 5. Pump bilge. 6. HEAD: You are responsible for emptying holding tank. 7. Disembarking: Remove all personal belongings and check for forgotten items. Check inventory. Fuel boat. Turn battery switch to House position #1. Cover mainsail, bag jib and staysail. Shut off propane. Leave lines shipshape and tie up vessel in a proper manner. 8. Plug in shorepower turn on battery charger only.
