CREATING TOMORROW S SOLUTIONS Proppants I surfactants I demulsifiers & defoamers WACKER SILICONES IN THE OIL & GAS INDUSTRY Historically, silicones in the oil and gas industry were primarily used as foam control agents. This practice continues today. However, the use of silicone chemistry has greatly expanded into other applications with success. This application expansion is the result of silicone being a unique chemistry. Unique stability is offered in extreme low and high temperature conditions and in high pressure environments from deep drilling. Unique functionality offers the ability to significantly reduce material usage through enhanced process efficiencies. These key features have expanded development into: Demulsification Profoaming Well bore stabilization Sand consolidation Proppant adhesion promoters and modifiers Cement additives Fluorosilicone defoamers The unique physical properties of silicones have allowed new application areas to be explored where performance needs haven t been met with traditional chemistries. For example: Silicone modifiers introduce flexibility and strength to proppant coatings allowing for improvements in conductivity, crush resistance, and chemical resistance, resulting in a longer life down hole. Silicone additives introduce lubricity to drilling muds allowing lower surface tension to facilitate backflow and extend well use with faster drill times Silicone additives introduce shale swell stability during drilling, reducing downtime, and maximizing well output. WACKER SILICONES ENGINEERED FOR OIL & GAS APPLICATIONS DRILLING: High Efficiency Minimal Downtime The appropriate choice of additives is critical to your process and resulting profitably. One potential choice is WACKER's line of SILFOAM silicon defoamers. The correct form of defoamer allows the user to optimize performance of drilling fluids by eliminating foam interference. In addition to a broad line of proven defoamers, WACKER also offers lubricity additives and new innovative products targeting shale stabilization. This foam generation can lead to pump cavitation variable densities from inconsistent mixing, and inconsistent cement integrity. WACKER offers an additive line engineered to meet the needs of down-hole cement during installation and production life. Not only are silicon-based materials ideal for defoaming cementitious materials, but they can be used to enhance the overall physical performance of the cement. This results in improved cement integrity with reduced failure potential and longer life in use. Proppant Manufacturers: WACKER SG product line provides resin coated manufacturers with process aids that can result in free flowing, non-static, non-agglomerating, proppants while delivering improved cycle times during manufacturing, and stability during delivery and storage. Resin and Proppant Manufacturers: WACKER's GENIOSIL silane products improve the adhesion of a polymer coating to proppants. This translates into higher conductivity and pack life for fracture jobs. Resin Manufacturers: WACKER resin modifiers offer the various resins used in the proppant market the ability to address performance needs. WACKER silicon modifiers provide innovative approaches to modify these coatings to impart improvements in crush resistance, chemical resistance, pack life, and the reduction in the development of fines. CEMENTING: Improved Hydrophobicity and Long Term Durability Cementing is critical to the structural integrity of the well and long term production performance. During the mixing of the cement slurry many essential additives, such as those for cement integrity, performance enhancers, fluid loss and anti-settling agents, are added causing air entrapment and generation of foam. 5 STIMULATION: At the Forefront of Hydraulic Fracking Fracking has changed the direction of oil and gas production and is a critical application for productivity. An integral part of this process is the production and use of resin coated proppants. WACKER offers a broad line of silicon based products to address the needs of the resin coated proppants market.

CREATING TOMORROW S SOLUTIONS Proppants I surfactants I demulsifiers & defoamers GLOBAL TECHNOLOGY INDUSTRY KNOWLEDGE PRODUCT INNOVATION PRODUCTION: Enabling a More Efficient Production Process Flow An efficient production process is crucial for optimizing oil & gas throughput. Key processes in production, such as gas/oil/ water separation, are often plagued with efficiency issues related to foaming and separation dynamics. WACKER's SILFOAM product line controls and regulates foam formation maximizing production rates. Additionally, The WACKER SG series offers a full line of demulsifiers and surfactants to meet performance requirements or extreme conditions that cannot be met with standard offerings. These products may be used at full strength or as booster agents for these processes. REFINING: Extreme Conditions Demand Extreme Solutions The extreme conditions of the refining process make WACKER silicon products the ideal solution to address the foaming issues that can occur and impede refinery production rates. WACKER s SILFOAM defoamers and WACKER AK fluids offer the enhanced performance, improved efficiency, and low loading levels that will help keep the refinery processes operating at the highest possible output. WACKER's SILFOAM defoamers are formulated to control foam in the distillation (vacuum or atmospheric) columns, in high temperature visbreakers and cokers, and for refinery waste water treatment. Local Warehousing/On-Time Supply / Robust Supply Chain WACKER's customer support model offers world class distribution services through Brenntag for local support, logistics, warehousing, and JIT deliveries.
