variable controller for circulation systems adaptive pump control easy-to-install housing user-friendly operation by simple handling intuitive menu operation via push button Technical data RESOL EC1 Housing: plastic, PC-ABS and PMMA Measurements: 172 x 110 x 46 mm Protection type: IP 40 / DIN 40050 Display: LCD, multi-fuctional display, combined display Controller adjustment: menu-operated Inputs: 1 Sensor input for flow switch *48000990* 48000990 The purpose of a circulation system is to provide the consumer with warm water as quick as possible when turning on the tap. The pipe line system for the supply with domestic water is simultaneously used as a circulation system so that by means of the circulation pump water is passed through the water pipes even without having to turn on the tap. The are different solution possibilities: 24 h operation of the circulation pump time-controlled operation of the circulation pump time- and thermally controlled operation of the circulation pump The mentioned solution possiblities are not optimally adjustable and will cause an unnecessary energy consumption. Our solution: Via a flow switch in the hot water pipe the controller unit controls the water extraction. After turning on the tap for a brief moment the circulation pump is switched on and will be switched off again due to the adjusted runtime. The tap functions like a remote control. This circulation pump control function is an eco-friendly and energy-saving solution in line with demand. 1

1. General function description Flow switch 5 2 3 1 4 The flow switch (2) that is built into the store inlet reacts to the the stream movement of the water during the opening of a hot-tap connection (4). Before actually opening the hot-tap connection the tap should be turned on for a brief moment. After that the control unit (1) puts the circulation pump into operation (3) in order to let the hot water stream from store (5) through the circulation line. When you turn on the tap again hot water will arrive at the hot-tap connection within a few seconds. The control unit will now switch the circulation pump off again due to the adjusted runtime in order to prevent hot water being pumped through the circulation line without any use. In order to prevent the circulation pump from switching on again after a bief pause, the re-start is avoided by an adjustable waiting time. In case that the tap hasn t been turned on for 12 hours ( e.g. when being on holiday), the pump will be put into operation for the adjusted runtime Rc in order to prevent germ formation because of the lacking water movement (Legionella protection). The time value is preadjusted to 12 h. Please note: In oder to prevent a temperature mixing from the circulation line preferably use circulation pumps with return valves. 2. Installation 2.1 Mounting Warning! Switch-off power supply before opening the housing. operating control lamp cover housing combined LCD pushbutton clamps socket The unit must only be located internally. It is not suitable for installation in hazardous locations and should not be sited near to any electromagnetic field. The controller must additionally be equipped with an all-polar gap of at least 3 mm or with a gap according to the valid installaton regulations. Please ensure separate laying of the cable lines and installation of ac power supply. 1. Unscrew the cross-recessed screw (Pz1)of the cover and remove it from the housing. 2. Mark the upper fastening point on the and premount the enclosed dowel and screw. 3. Hang up the housing at the upper fastening point and mark the lower fastening point on the underground (hole pitch130 mm), afterwards put in the lower dowel. 4. Fasten the housing at the underground. cable conduits with strain relief 3

2.2 Electrical wiring fuse The power supply to the controller must only be made by an external power supply switch (last step of installation!) and the line voltage must be 210... 250 Volt (50...60 Hz). Flexible lines are to be fixed at the housing by enclosed strain relief supports and screws. The controller is equipped with 2 standard relays to which consumers e.g. pumps, valves etc. can be connected: Flow switch 18 = conductor R1 17 = neutral conductor N 13 = ground clamp The flow switch (S1) will be connected to the following terminals independently of the polarity: 1 / 2 = flow switch sensor clamp S1 for flow switch c o n s u m e r c l a m p s 17/18 circultaion pump net clamps 19/20 The power supply is effected at the clamps: 19 = neutral conductor N 20 = conductor L 12 = ground clamp 3. Flow switch The flow switch perceives the water flow in your pipe system and indicates if water is being tapped in your circulation system. In combination with other variables the controller interprets these data and controls the operation of the circulation pump. As the flow switch only recognizes water movement in one direction, please pay attention to the correct flow direction of the water during the mounting. In order to prevent early calcification of the flow switch, it should be used in the cold water area/store inlet. The two-wire cable of the flow switch can be extended to 100 m without difficulty. When using longer cables as well as when using cable channels you should use shielded or twisted lines. Flow control switch with pipe section pipe section: brass housing: plastic vertical installationj (max. ±15º) 22mm flat -sealing screw joint 3/4 connection dry reed contact, max. 300 V DC / 1 A 4 Only vertical mounting with upward flow! Pay attention to the flow direction!!! Arrow indication.

4. Operation and function 4.1 Adjustment keys The controller is only operated by 3 pushbuttons below the display. The forward-key (1) is used for scrolling forward through the indication menu or to increase the adjustment values. The backwards-key (2) is accordingly used for the reverse function. The adjustment channels are followed by the mere indication channels in the display. In order to get to these channels, press the forward key to channel tc for 2 sec. If an adjustment value is shown on the display, SEt is indicated. In this case you can press the Set (3) key in order to change into input mode. backward forward 2 3 1 Set (selection / adjustment mode Select a channel by keys 1 and 2 Shortly press key 3 so that SEt flashes Adjust the value by keys 1 and 2 Shortly press key 3 so that SEt permanently appears, the adjusted value is now saved 4.2 Contoller parameter and indication channels Ph = Phase Phase 1: The contactor has been switched on, the circulation pump is put into operation for the runtime Rc (Runtime of circulation). Phase 2: Water has been tapped over a longer period, the circulation pump switches off after the runtiume Rc is over. FS = Flow Switch Flow switch 0 = open contact, no water movement 1 = closed contact, water flowingt tc = control time of circulation Check channel for Rc and Wc Rc = Runtime of circulation Runtime of the circulation Wc = Waiting time for (next) circulation Waiting timet MM = Mode Manual Manual mode 0 = manual mode off 1 = manual mode on 2 = automatic operation Pg = Programe Programme VN = Version Number Version number 5

4.3 Phase (Ph) Phase c1 : The flow switch has been closed and the controller puts the circulation pump into operation ifor the runtime Rc. Phase c2 : After the runtime Rc is over the pump is switched off at least for the duration of the waiting time Wc. Ph shows the current phase or the state the controller is in. The flow switch is closed during the tapping, the controller is in phase c1 and puts the circulation pump into operation. After runtime Rc the controller switches the pump off again and is in phase c2. The controller stops for the adjusted runtime Wcbefore the pump can be put into operation again. This way, and unnecessary pump operation and water circulation can be avoided. Should water be tapped once again within the time interval Wc the counter will be switched off for the duration of the tapping for the waiting time will be put into operation again afterwards. This way, the whole time interval between the first and the second pumping, during which there is no water movement, equals the adjusted time interval Wc. 4.4 Runtime / Desinfection (Rc) Rc : Circulation runtime (Runtime of circulation) Factory setting : 2 Min Indication in minutes Factory setting: 0:01... 0:10 The runtime Rc indicates the time (hh:mm) in which the pump is put into operation by the controller during the tapping. The runtime Rc is simultaneously used for the desinfection function. This function puts the pump automatically into operation for the runtime if no water has been tapped in 12 hours (no stale water). 4.5 Waiting time (Wc) Wc : Wartezeit (Waiting time for next circulation) Factory setting : 10 Min Indication in minutes Factory setting: 0:00... 0:20 With adjustment Wc 0:00 is in operation as long as the flow switch is closed.. Wc stands for the waiting time (hh:mm) during which the controller puts the circulation pump into operation after runtime Rc is over. In case of water being tapped during the waiting time, the time counter is switched off and will be switched on again afterwards. By this, an unnecessary pumping of hot water through the pipe system can be avoided. 4.6 Manual / Automatic mode (MM) MM : Manual mode (ManualMode) Factory setting : 2 By means of the adjustment value MM3 different operation modes for the controller can be selected. Permanently on, permanently off and automatic mode. 6 MM Pump 0 off 1 on 2 auto

4.7 Check value flow switch (FS) FS : Status of the flow switch (FlowSwitch) The FS value indicates water movement in the circulation system. During tapping FS = 1 is displayed, if no water has been tapped the controller displays FS = 0. 0 = no tapping 1 = tapping 4.8 Counter of the current time frame (tc) tc :Check time for Rc or Wc (control time of circulation ) The output value tc is a time counter that counts up from t = 0 to the value of Rc or Wc depending on the current phase. During phase c1 the value tc indicates the counter from 0 to Rc, in phase c2 the counter from 0 to Wc.. 4.9 Programme and Version (PG und VN) PG : Programme (ProGramm) VN : Version number (VersionNumber) PG specifies the current hardware programme number and VN the current software version. 5. Operation start Install power supply first. The controller passes an initialisation phase in which the operating control lamp flashes red and green. After having finished initialisation, the controller is in automatic operation, which is the most effective one for most of the systems with the indicated factory settings. If individual system conditions require an adaptation of the parameters, please adjust the values accordingly (see 4.2). 6. Tips for fault location Please check the following points if the controller EC1 does not work faultlessly: Flow switch can fuset4a Power supply If the operating control lamp is off, please check the powersupply of the controller. Fuse The controller is protected by one can fuse T4 A, which is integrated into the isolation plate and can be replaced by opening the cover of the housing (spare fuse is enclosed in one of the accessory bags). 7
