Fiat Avio and Spina 3 Strategic Recommendations (urban regeneration) Most of the strategic recommendations are about involving citizens and residents in the brownfields requalification. The B-Team partners underline the need to have good instruments in communicating the transformation and a transparent way in publishing data and decisions. They suggest to strengthen the link between cultural event and local identity to increase the sense of belonging and the participation. Furthermore, it is recommended to increase the research and testing on new reclamation methods, and to improve- during the planning process- the relationship between the level of contamination and the new land use, in order to contain costs. matteo.tabasso@siti.polito.it 10

Fiat Avio and Spina 3 Site Specific Recommendations (urban regeneration) The specific recommendations that can be considered more helpful concern: Public transport access to Lingotto (island situation) Well functioning and safe pedestrian and bicycle routes on the Fiat Avio area, connecting to the surrounding areas and the river Versatile functions on the new Lingotto railway station, including for example exhibition / performance areas, rental space, bicycle parking - establish Lingotto station as a local centre, beyond providing access to regional trains. Better connection to the Olympic Village - new (cultural or public) use of derelict structures More links between decontamination process and educational initiatives, also using existing structure as Museo A come Ambiente Develop specific branding for the sites such as Living on the Backbone to highlight the attractiveness to live there matteo.tabasso@siti.polito.it 11

Procedures City of Turin: 3 deputy mayors involved Environment Town planning International relations They: collected the recommendations from the partners, considered the proposals and the observations; brought to the city Government a spreadsheet containing the recommendations and the indication about the possible acknowledgment. The structure of the spreadsheet: Recommendations Already (totally or partially) acknowledged Already acknowledged but possibly to be implemented Indication to be acknowledged Difficult to be adopted matteo.tabasso@siti.polito.it

Feedback from the City Comments on Recommendations (urban regeneration) Most of the recommendations are pertinent and correct, some of them are already considered in the projects and some are difficult to receive but some others will be considered in the course of the development. The main elements incorporated by the city government in a formal document are: The improvement of the accessibility of the Lingotto railway station More attention in designing the new urban spaces (greenfield, public urban space ) and urban connections (pathways, bikeways, public transport solutions, ) Temporary use of derelict architectures and spaces in brownfields (with some safety problems) Marketing, communication and participation actions (branding ). matteo.tabasso@siti.polito.it 13

This is followed by a discussion with everybody in the working group A summary of the outcome of the discussion should be presented in the afternoon sessions matteo.tabasso@siti.polito.it 19
