KPS Petrol Pipe System Installation and testing of KPS conductive pipes
Installation and advantages of KPS Conductive pipes General The KPS Petrol Pipe System Conductive version is very easy to install. When used it offers the following advantages: It completely eliminates the build-up of static electricity inside the piping thereby eliminating any static discharges in or around the piping. This offers a major advantage compared to plastic non-conductive piping. The conductive properties are such that a KPS Conductive System prevents passage of stray currents. This offers an advantage to conventional steel pipe systems (apart from the obvious anti-corrosive properties). The installation of KPS Conductive pipes is very similar to installing KPS non-conductive pipes. The present publication is merely intended to highlight specific requirements and procedures relating to the installation of KPS Conductive piping. The specific components necessary to create and secure a conductive pipe run are: KPS Conductive piping KP CC connectors used in every joint KPS Conductivity Tester or an insulation meter
Installation instructions This example describes a pipe running from the tank manway lid to the fill point. 1. Start installation of the pipe at a fixed end, for instance at a tank manway lid. Use conductive single or double wall pipe. 2. At every joint insert a KP CC connector before applying the welding socket 3. Insert the pipe ends into the welding sockets in accordance with the KPS Installation Manual. 4. Before and after the welding of each individual joint, measure that proper conductivity is maintained throughout the whole pipe run. Repeat this procedure with every new joint added along the pipe run. 5. After welding insert spark protection plugs into all welding sockets. 6. At the very end point of each completed pipe run, apply the plastic-tosteel transition fitting and the welding sockets without connecting or threading the pipe system to the fill point, and without performing the final weld. 7. Perform conductivity measurement between the pipe run starting point and the pipe run end. Ensure that conductivity is maintained throughout the whole pipe run. 8. Connect the plastic-to-steel transition fitting to the fill point. Perform the final weld. Once the welding has cooled, repeat the conductivity measurement between the pipe run starting point and end. 9. The same procedure is valid for all pipe runs regardless of whether they run from dispenser to tank, tank to vent or tank to fill point. When the conductivity in the pipe system is maintained and properly grounded to earth, it will both dissipate any static electricity safely and prevent stray currents from passing through the system.
At every joint insert a KP CC connector before applying the welding socket KPS Conductivity Tester instructions 1. Before and after the welding of each individual joint, measure that proper conductivity is maintained. Push the TEST button on the tester. Green light and a buzzer signals it is OK. Red light and no buzzer not OK. Insulation meters may be used instead of a KPS Conductivity tester. Note: Make sure test and measuring devices are properly calibrated. Insert a KPCC connector before applying the welding socket 2. Perform conductivity test before connecting or threading the loose end of the completed pipe run to its fixed end point. If both pipe run ends are connected to the respective end points, the test current may find alternate routes between measuring points, thus producing inaccurate results. Remark; If the low battery indicator turns red install a new battery (9V) before performing a new test.
