EVACUATION PROCEDURE PERSON DISCOVERING FIRE should break glass of nearest alarm On having the fire confirmed the Site and Maintenance Manager/Head of School to ring 999 outside school hours Kevin/Activities team or cleaners On hearing the fire alarm ALL PERSONS PROCEED TO ASSEMBLY POINT Castle Road Park Leave the building by the nearest exit. Walk in silence. If evacuating from the Tower use the outside stairwell unless instructed otherwise. Should the alarm ring during break or lunchtime students should be instructed by staff to leave the building by the nearest safe fire exit and proceed to the Assembly Point. Staff should assist this process where possible without putting themselves at risk. Under no circumstances should staff or students return to their form rooms or attempt to re-enter the building. Students should proceed along the left-hand side path to the Assembly area. Members of Administration will be on hand to initially guide students along the right hand path and across the road. Once the evacuation is underway they will ask a teacher to take their place so they can carry out their other duties. Instructions will be passed to you from the Fire Warden to be passed to the Head of School or Deputy Head. ADMINISTRATION Put on High Visibility vest DUTY Front Desk staff member to collect the Fire Register folder Tutor Attendance Records issue to DUTY Front Desk staff member on arrival at evacuation point. (bag contains: whistle, tutor names, 12 pencils) To issue the tutor name cards and the attendance sheets, collected from School Administrators to each respective tutor 5

Head of Boarding To collect Visitor Book To take responsibility for visitors & contractors opposite main entrance to school premises Pathway Managers and Kevin To remain at the school entrance to liaise with the Fire Warden and Fire Marshall and to prevent entry to the buildings. To rely messages between school and park. To advise Emergency Services. VISITORS and CONTRACTORS Visitors should be handed over to the Head of Boarding opposite school entrance. Contractors should be directed to Head of Boarding opposite school entrance. AT THE ASSEMBLY POINT At the Assembly Point students should line up in a single file behind the Tutor, holding the respective sign. At all times, silence should be maintained so that instructions can be heard. Tutors to confirm all present Lower school Tricia & Dan Upper school Jo & Tina. Tricia, Dan, Jo & Tina check for missing students with DUTY Front Desk staff member/su who report any absences or all present to the Head of School or Deputy Head All present at the assembly area should remain in silence to await instructions. Please arrange classes accordingly to assist with the head count. Returning from assembly point Fire Marshalls to ensure road safety If the alarm is outside main schools hours. Kevin Tyler, Cleaners and Activities is to check the call location and call Emergency services and direct them accordingly Cleaners and Activities staff will ensure the building is empty. Club teachers to take class to assembly point. 6

FAQ s Why do we have drills? We have drills to test our plans, update procedures and to train and instill good practices they are to be as life like as possible so it can highlight and identify potential problems for solving. Always feedback any concerns or good practices What if the Fire Alarm goes off at registration? Tutors bring your Attendance Record with you. What if the Fire Alarm goes off before the start of the school day? Use blank Tutor Attendance Records Should I use the Door break glass? The doors have emergency break glasses to release the magnets in emergencies the evacuation is an emergency so use if required. What if the key personnel are absent? Deputy Head will stand in for Head of School or Site Manager Assistant Head will stand in for the Deputy Head If any member of the Administration team is absent it is the responsibility of other members to appoint cover for these procedures for the day. Absent tutor will be covered through the cover procedure Personal property Please leave belongings, food & drinks etc. The priority is yours and other lives not property. 7
