desription: The pt is a powerful miroproessor based menu driven temperature ontroller for heating and ooling appliations. Please read the following information to maximize the potential of this powerful thermostat.the following are some highlights of the pt: * p.i. analog heating and ooling outputs * 2 sequential p.w.m. heating outputs to proportionally drive solid state relays * 2 fully programmable dry ontat relays to be used in heating and/or ooling appliations * high signal seletions outputs from multiple pt's to be used by a master system * individually programmable night set bak/ set up * night set bak override * intelligent self-optimizing morning self start * minimum position setting for heating and ooling output * programmable min and max allowable temperature setting * seletable internal/external sensor * led display * programmable Celius or Fahrenheit display * plug in easily removable thermostat body * attrative flat asing button funtions: The up button is used to inrease the temperature set point (warmer) while the thermostat is operating in user mode. The up button is also used to inrease a given parameter when in program mode. Similarly, the down button is used to derease the temperature setpoint (ooler) or derease a parameter in program mode. One a value is stored in memory, the pt will remember that value even if the power is turned off at the thermostat for several years. minimum position COOL fig. #3 sensor shunt exterior / interior modes When a parameter is being stored, the led display will flash in a irular fashion. You will notie that when hanging the setpoint, the led display will do a irular flash. This is beause a new setpoint is being entered into the memory of the pt. In program mode if this flash does not our you have not stored that parameter into memory! if you do not wish to hange the value in memory of a parameter, simply do not press the enter button and push the menu button to go to the next program level. Night Set Bak Indiator: When NSB is ON, the NSB Indiator will light. If you wish to loally override the NSB, momentarily push either the UP or DOWN button. pt terminal onnetion desriptions: 1 ommon 2 24 va 3 external temperature sensor. If an external temperature sensor is used, it must be onneted between pins 1 and 3. When using an external temperature sensor, the sensor seletion jumper must be plaed in the ext position. Neptroni wall sensor ws100 or dut sensor ds100 must be used. 4 night set bak input. To enlarge the deadband during unoupied periods (night set bak), short pins 4 and 1. The amount of deadband expansion is programmed at the thermostat. 5 heating output 0 to 10vd. This is the analog proportional heating output. It may be used to ontrol an atuator. 6 heating high demand output 0 to 10vd. This output may be plaed in parallel with many pt heating high demand outputs to find the highest heating demand among many zones. This signal an be used to ontrol a voltage sensitive relay (ie; neptroni vr2 or vr4) in order to turn on a heating system via stages. 7 ooling output 0 to 10vd. This is the analog proportional ooling signal. It may be used to ontrol an atuator. fig. #4 8 ooling high demand output 0 to 10vd. This output may be plaed in parallel with many pt ooling high demand outputs to find the highest ooling demand among many zones. This signal an be used to ontrol a voltage sensitive relay (ie, neptroni vr or vr4) in order to turn on a ooling unit via stages 9 time proportional modulation output 1; 1 or 24vd. This heating output may be used to modulate heating elements via a tria swith or solid state relay. The output range is proportional to 0 to 100% of the heating demand. This output is apable of supplying up to 100mA of urrent so it may be used to atuate several tria swithes, or even a thermoeletri valve diretly. 10 time proportional modulation output 2: 1 or 24vd output. This output is similar to pin 9 exept that the output is proportional to 50 to 150% of the heating demand. In addition the maximum urrent output is 100mA. 11 & 12 ontat A. This ontat is normally open. It will lose if the demand exeeds the programmed value. the ontat rating is 120V 1A resistive. 13 & 14 ontat B. This ontat is normally open. It will lose if the demand exeeds the programmed value. The ontat rating is 120V 1A resistive. 15 tpm 2 inhibit. This input, when shorted to pin 1, will turn off time proportional modulation 2 regardless of the heating demand. 16 atual temperature output, 0.5 to 5vd. This output is proportional to the atual temperature seen by the thermostat. A hart of temperature versus voltage is shown in fig #5. The output is high impedane and any attempt to draw more than 0.5mA from this output will result in inorret readings and may result in impro-per funtion of the thermostat. No programming tool is required, and the programming sequenes are all menu driven. Desription of all programming steps is done in the order in whih they appear while atually programming the thermostat. Please look at fig. #3 for the loations of up, down, menu, and enter buttons. In many ases you will never need to program the pt thermostat. The standard fatory settings are suitable for most appliations. A list of the standard fatory settings are shown below. program level organization: Eah funtion is made of 2 steps: Step 1 The funtion will be displayed for 2 seonds followed by message 2. Step 2 is adjusted by pushing the up or down buttons. To hange to the next funtion, press the MENU button. If you wish to skip over a funtion, simply push and hold down the MENU button. * Note: If you want to program all funtions in 0 F skip to message #8 "d l " step 1 of eah funtion will be displayed (in order) for 2 seonds, and then the pt will skip to the next funtion. pt thermostat programming modes When the pt is turned on, it automatially displays the atual temperature in 0 C. The thermostat is fully funtional and it uses default fatory settings Setpoint hange - To hek the setpoint momentarily press the UP or DOWN button. The display will automatially show the setpoint. To hange setpoint press the UP or DOWN button until the required new set point is displayed. program level organization: ont. When the pt is turned on. it is automatially in user mode. In this mode only the setpoint may be hanged (within the limits set by the minimum and maximum setpoint settings) by pressing the up or down buttons. To enter program mode, push the MENU button one. The first program level message ( hi ) will be displayed for 2 seonds, followed by the maximum setpoint setting. Pushing the up or down buttons, set the maximum setpoint you wish the user to have aess to. One that is done, push the ENTER button to store this value in memory. Push MENU one again. The seond program level message ( Lo ) will be displayed for 2 2 seonds, followed by the minimum setpoint setting. Pushing the up or down buttons, set the minimum setpoint you wish the user to have aess to. One that is done, push the ENTER button to store this value in memory. 1 Push MENU again. The third program level message 3 ( Ca ) will be displayed for 2 seonds, followed by the setpoint of ontat A. It is displayed in the following format: message H2 H3 H4 H5 H6 H7 H8 H9 C2 C3 C4 C5 C6 C7 C8 C9 ontat setpoint heating at 20 % demand heating at 30 % demand heating at 40 % demand heating at 50 % demand heating at 60 % demand heating at 70 % demand heating at 80 % demand heating at 90 % demand ooling at 20 % demand ooling at 30 % demand ooling at 40 % demand ooling at 50 % demand ooling at 60 % demand ooling at 70 % demand ooling at 80 % demand ooling at 90 % demand Pushing the up or down buttons will hange the ontat setpoint. When you have arrived at the setpoint you wish, push the ENTER button to store this value in memory. Note that if you wish to fix the temperature setpoint to one value (ie; not adjustable by the user), set the (hi) and ( Lo ) values to the desired temperature setpoint. program level organization: ont. Push MENU again. The fourth program level message ( C b ) will be displayed for 2 seonds, fol lowed by the setpoint of 4 ontat B. The format is the same as desribed above for ontat A, and adjustments to the setpoint are made in the same way. Contat A and Contat B are totally independent. You may selet two heating ontats, two ooling ontats, or one heating and one ooling ontat. Their setpoints an be wherever you hoose. will allow you to tailor the response of the pt to any given 3 appliation. For most V.A.V appliations, the usual proportional band is 2 to 3 0 C (3.5 to 5.5 0 F ). For many appliations where hot or hilled water oil is used, a typial proportional band is 3 to 6 degrees 0 C (5.5 to 10.5 0 F). Using the up or down buttons, adjust the proportional band to the value required. Press the ENTER button to store the value in memory. Push MENU again. The fifth program level message ( S b ) will be displayed for 2 seonds, 5 followed by the night set bak deadband. This is the total deadband (over and under the setpoint) applied when the night set bak terminal is onneted to ommon. Using the up or down button, adjust the night set bak deadband to the value required and press ENTER to store that value in memory. Push MENU again. The seventh program level message ( r l ) will be displayed followed by 7 the soft start ramp time. Sine the soft start feature is only useful if modulating eletri heating is used, you may disable this feature. To turn off the soft start funtion, set the soft start ramp time to 00. If modulating eletri heating is used, normally the soft start ramp time is set the same as the morning warm up period. Push MENU again. The sixth program level message ( P b ) will be displayed for 2 se-onds, 6 followed by the proportional band. The pt operates using a p.i. algorithm, with the integral terms optimized automatially by the thermostat. But sine the proportional band has the greatest effet on the output, adjusting the proportional band Push the up or down buttons to set the soft start ramp time to the number of minutes required. program level organization: ont. Push MENU again. The eighth program level message (d l) will be displayed for 2 seonds, followed by the display type 8 shown in user mode. There are two hoies: either degrees Celsius ( 0 C) or degrees Fahrenheit ( 0 F). To normally display the temperature setpoint in Celsius, press the up or down button until ( C ) is displayed. To normally display the atual temperature in Fahrenheit, press the up or down button until ( F ) is displayed. When finished, push ENTER to store the alibration value in memory. This is the last programming step. To put the pt thermostat bak into user mode, push MENU one again. Note that if the pt thermostat is left in program mode the ontrol setion of the thermostat is not funtional. Therefore it is always a good idea to leave it in user mode when you are finished programming. Push the ENTER button to store this parameter in memory. Push MENU again. The ninth program level message ( C L ) will be displayed followed 9 by the temperature alibration adjustment. The pt's temperature sensor is fatory alibrated. However you may wish to adjust this alibration, partiularly if you are using an external temperature sensor. To do this, simply measure the atual temperature in the room and ompare it to the atual temperature displayed by the pt. If, for example, the pt was reading 2 degrees lower than the atual temperature, set the temperature alibration adjustment to -2. Restoring the standard fatory settings If you wish to restore the standard fatory settings on the pt, then follow these steps: 1) turn off the power to the thermostat. This may be done by unplugging the pt from the sub-base. 2) push and hold down the menu, enter, and up buttons at the same time. 3) turn the power bak on to the pt (or plug it bak into it's sub-base). The thermostat must be at this point, in the program mode if the MENU button was held down for too long. To get bak into user mode, push and hold down the MENU button until you see the display show (C L). Then release the MENU button, and momentarily push the MENU button one again.
