How does 4-H relate to generosity?...hands to Larger Service What thoughts or picture come to mind when you hear the word generosity? Perhaps you envision the red Salvation Army kettle outside a local store during the holiday season. Maybe a particular person who gives a great deal of his or her time, talent or resources toward the betterment of your community comes to mind. Even if you do not envision or picture anyone or anything, most likely the word itself conjures up pleasant thoughts. And why not, generosity is a good thing, an admirable trait we all would like to possess, and one that has the potential to make our world a better place. But what does generosity have to do with 4-H? Well, making our world and the world around us a better place is what we mean when we pledge Our Hands to Larger Service. 4-H has long known the importance that providing opportunities to practice generosity and service have in the healthy development of young people. Like all of us, young people need to feel their lives have meaning and purpose. They need opportunities to connect to their communities and learn how to give back to others. Indian Philosopher, Mahatma Gandhi once said, The best way to find yourself, is to lose yourself in service to others. A national study revealed that 4-H members are more likely than youth in other structured out-of-school time program to contribute to their communities. The study also found a significant positive relationship between contribution and positive youth development. Research has also found that youth with opportunities to serve, like those provided in 4-H, develop a better understanding of the big picture of life and find more purpose and meaning in their own lives. With winter upon us, now is a good time as any to practice generosity, and you do not need to empty your piggybank to do it. Organize fellow 4-H members to shovel, wash windows, and install smoke alarms for senior members of your community. Host a party or project experience for kids who have parents serving away from home in the military, or read to children at a community day care or shelter. Remember, finding one s self often begins in the service of others. Wishing each family a happy holiday season! In WI alone, approximately 8,000 children are placed into foster care each year. LSS needs you to join in our efforts to make a difference for these youth. LSS provides specialized training, 24/7 support, respite care, case coordination, and more so that you can help make a difference in a child s life. Licensed respite providers who can offer weekend or short-term care are also needed. Do you have a heart for children? Can you provide them with a safe and caring place to call home? Eau Claire County 4-H Clover Leaves Page 4 Home and Family Corner Knitting and Crocheting are among many projects that can be entered at the fair. In each category, there are many lots and some of the items can be submitted at the fair or entered in the Clothing Revue or both. The Home and Family Committee is looking for individuals who knit or crochet and would like to pass on the craft. There are many ways this can be done. If you feel comfortable leading a small group in learning to knit or crochet a simple project, we can help set up a workshop. Sometimes, a person learning the craft just needs a mentor to get them started or help them through a more intricate part of a pattern. Eau Claire County 4-H Clover Leaves Page 7 MAQA Meat Animal Quality Assurance (MAQA) has been made a mandatory requirement for all exhibitors showing any livestock Beef, Sheep, Swine, Goats, Dairy, Poultry and Rabbits that are housed at the Eau Claire County Fair for 2017. This email states the plan for Quality Assurance education for 2016-2017. Please read thoroughly! The Eau Claire County Fair Committee has chosen to make MAQA a mandatory requirement for 2017. Because our exhibitors and animal exhibits are on public display, and because the treatment and care is a reflection on our fair, it is critical that exhibitors have a good understanding of the expectations of the public s view of how animals are cared for and these expectations should be implemented not only during the fair, but practiced at home and on our farms as well. This year s MAQA topic will be: Animal Health Products, coupled with VFD & Veterinary Feed Directive. The MAQA meetings for Eau Claire County have been scheduled. Saturday, February 18, 2017 9:30AM at the Eau Claire County Extension Office, Altoona Monday, April 10, 2017 6:30PM at Augusta High School, Augusta (ADDITIONAL MEETINGS MAY BE SCHEDULED) There will be an option to test out by taking an exam; however this year the exam will have a 1 year certification ONLY. It will NOT serve for more than one year as in previous years. Youth already in the system that have certifications that are current because they took the exam will be grandfathered in. PLEASE NOTE: you will need to contact the Extension Office to set up a time to take the exam. To pass, you must score at least 75%. Exhibitors who do not pass the test may opt to take the test again, but must schedule a different time and day to retest. Meat Animal Quality Assurance (MAQA) meetings in other counties. If you are not able to attend one of the meetings offered in Eau Claire County, families may visit the link below to find a meeting that is relatively close and can work in their schedule Weblink: http://fyi.uwex.edu/maqa/maqa-meetings/ PLEASE NOTE that this requirement MUST be completed by JULY 1, 2017 to show at the 2017 fair. Please plan ahead and attend a meeting or test out before July 1! NO exceptions will be made! For 2017-2018 and beyond: MAQA will be known as YQCA (youth for the quality care of animals) and will continue to be implemented in Eau Claire County. Beef, Sheep, Swine, Goats, Dairy, Poultry and Rabbits will all be included in presentation information regarding the importance of animal care. In 2018 Wisconsin State Fair will require YQCA for all junior show exhibitors in Beef, Sheep, Swine, Dairy, Goats, Poultry and Rabbits. The National Western stock show will start requiring YQCA from all youth exhibitors starting in 2018. We know that this is a transition year with many exhibitors involved in livestock projects with different youth memberships and leaders. To ensure that nobody is missed or not made aware of the new requirements, we are asking leaders, advisors and other exhibitors to pass along the information. All participants are responsible for their conduct to UW-Extension personnel, to 4-H leaders, and to other persons supervising this program. I, the undersigned parent or guardian of participant named below recognize the dangers present in Shooting Sports Activities. I believe the Eau Claire County Shooting Sports Leaders and their assistants are dependable and reliable and will provide safe experiences. I understand that during the course of shooting sports trainings, it may be necessary to position my child to demonstrate such topics as proper stance or correct shooting positions. I hereby grant permission for my child to participate in the Shooting Sports Program. I knowingly and freely assume all such risks, for example; bodily injury as well as loss of or damage to property. I understand as the parent/guardian signing this form that I will be held financially responsible for any expenses above and beyond what the 4-H insurance will pay. I assume all risks involved while using equipment supplied in this program. Participants are responsible for their own equipment. I authorize the use of photographs or videos of my child while participating in the shooting sports programs for educational or media purposes. To do that you will need to: 1. Attend all sessions in the planned program or notify a leader if you are unable to attend. 2. Follow hours, room rules, and range rules. You are responsible for knowing the rules. 3. Use good judgment in selecting clothing appropriate to the occasion and weather. 4. Use language and manners that will bring respect to you and Eau Claire County 4-H. 5. Be in the assigned program area at all times. 6. Members and family enjoyed a pot luck meal. The meeting was called to order by Nicole. Flag pledges were led by Bennett. Brooke reported the year s highlights. Dylan made a motion to accept the secretary s report, and seconded by Brian. The treasure s report was given by Dylan. Motioned to accept the treasurer s report was by Ethan, and seconded by Bennett. A Youth Conference report was given by Heidi, and a Spirit Trip Report was given by Dylan. Club awards were handed out by club leader, Jill. Next was the Installation of new officers. Respectfully Submitted, Heidi Strey, Secretary Foster Town and Country November 14, 2016 We held our meeting at St. Luke s Church in Foster. The secretary s report and treasurer s report was given. For old business we said thank you to everyone who helped rake the leaves and pick up sticks at the church. Also, a reminder to enroll into 4-H for next year. New business is that we are planning on doing gift tags for children in the community during Christmas as a community service project, and we are getting presents for a family in need also. A group of kids will go shopping for these gifts. Our next meeting will be December 18, 2016, at 2 o clock at the church in Foster. We will make a craft before we go caroling to hand out as we go Christmas caroling around Foster before the meeting. We will have our meeting after that and have some Christmas goodies and a potluck meal.

Eau Claire County 4-H Clover Leaves Page 19 Club Minutes November meeting of the Pleasant Valley Clovers -November 12, 2016 The meeting was held at the Cleghorn Community Center on November 12 of 2016 where the annual club banquet and meeting took place. The meeting was called to order by Cullen Kortbein and pledges were said. The Club sang Happy Birthday to Kylee Jaquish and Samantha Friedrichs and roll call was taken. The secretary s report for October was read and a thank you letter was sent to the Club from the UWEC Campus Harvest Food Pantry Fund on the behaf of our clubs donation to them, Emma Wathke made the first motion to accept the sec. report and Cierra Kortbein followed with a second. The treasurer s report was read by Allison Duerkop. For old business a report was given by the kids who went to the OYC Haunted Barn, Our House Memory Care Center, and the 2016 County Awards Banquet. Motionswere made, Samantha with the first and Lindsay Duerkop with a second, to accept the Clubs investment to purchase half of a Solar Panel for the Cleghorn Center. The Club also decided that we are going to ring bells for the Salvation Army at Festival Foods in the months of November and December. For new business our club decided a date for our Christmas party which is going to be December 11 at 3:30pm. Also, Tereasa proposed that the Club should Adopt a Family for Christmas and the Club made motions to accept it, first by Lindsay and second by Cierra. The Youth Leaders report was given by Teresa and Samantha. For the Leaders Report the club was reminded about the Re- enrollment deadline, November 15, and to cash in our Fair checks A.S.A.P. A motion was made by Samantha and was followed with a second from Katelyn Friedrichs to adjourn the meeting. Minutes by Secretary, Ashlyn Jaquish Maple Drive Boosters October Meeting Minutes The meeting was held at the Brunswick Town Hall, Dakota Roettger called the meeting to order at 6:15 on October 10, 2016, right after a successful roadside clean-up. The pledges were led by Lucia Crawford, the New Sergeant of arms, Avery Iverson then read the September minutes. The treasurer s report was given by Seth Henning. For old business, Dakota brought up Discovery Days which was on October 9 Seth Henning did scarf juggling, he taught Katrina Henning how to juggle scarves! Katrina did a cupcake decorating table! After that we discussed the County Interview Workshop. What is Interview Workshop, you ask? Well, it is where members of 4- H go to learn how to do an Interview for trips that they are going to go on, this was explained to us by Katy Haworth. After that, we talked about Officer Training, Officer Training is when officers can get trained by previous officers, this was on October 3 at the Cleghorn Town Hall. Finally we talked about National 4-H week, this year our county celebrated it by having Discovery Days! Continued, next page
Eau Claire County 4-H Clover Leaves Page 20 Club Minutes Maple Drive Boosters October Meeting, continued For New Business we revealed On-Line Enrollment, which is due on November 15, and costs $10.00 per member, payable to the club. Then we debated on if we were going to raise the Wreath s sale prices, we voted on raising the prices a little bit this year; the order forms will be sent out soon. We were also reminded to check out our clubs website! The 4-H club outing is October 23, 2016, at 2:30 p.m., we will be going to the Escape Room, at Banbury Place, and then going to Dairy Queen afterwards. After that we spilled the beans on the OYC Haunted house, which is from October 27 to the 29! Members were reminded to cash fair checks by the end of the year. Finally we talked about Music Fest, it is January 28, and members have to start thinking of ideas for music, drama, or demonstrations. After that we brainstormed club SMART goals, they are, to bring friends to meetings, to increase enrollment by 2 or 3, to highlight a member each meeting, to get to know each other, and to put together new member packets! We adjourned the meeting, and banquet committee met to plan for the event. Pleasant Hill Go-Getters 4-H Club Meeting Minutes November 14, 2016 The meeting was called to order by Lexi Schulner, President. November birthdays were celebrated. Secretary s report was given by Samantha Zimmerman. The Treasurer s report was read by Breanna Lantz and unpaid dues were collected and unclaimed fair checks were distributed. Lexi Schulner reported on the Haunted Barn event that took place in October. 1006 pounds of non-perishable food items donated at the Haunted Barn were donated to the Feed My People Food Bank. From the Haunted Barn earnings, the club made a $500.00 donation to the Feed My People Food Bank. The Feed My People Pantry Service Night was on November 10. Twenty-eight members and parents volunteered to package cheerios for our service project. In new business, the Eau Claire County Musical Festival was reviewed and members were encouraged to sign up. The Music Festival will be held on January 21. Practices will be announced. The December club meeting will be held at Action City on December 12 from 6:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. At the December meeting club members are asked to donate toys that will be gifted to Toys for Tots. Pizza and soda will be served. The club will cover the cost for all registered club members. Club members are encouraged to assist in bell ringing December 13 through December 20. A sign up will be circulated via Facebook. We selected January 29 for our Badlands Snopark trip. Club members donated jackets, hats and mittens for the hat and mitten tree. The collected jackets, hats and mittens will be donated to those in need at the Bolton Refuge House and the Beacon House. A demonstration on dog obedience training was completed by Hope Wallace. Breanna Lantz did a demonstration on how to make fleece tie scarfs. Pop tabs were submitted to Jaidynn Sarauer. Our club project was scarf making and was led by Breanna Lantz.
