Unique features found only on SMP60 Features Hopper choices Hopper Inlet tube Hydraulic lockout valves Advantages It is important that the incoming bedded manure is deposited directly into the inlet tube. SMP60 is offered with a variety of hopper sizes and shapes to suit different layouts so that the incoming flow can always be directed to the ideal position. The bolt-on hopper on SMP60 pumps may be replaced when they are corroded. The SMP60 has a large diameter, round inlet tube compared to competitive pumps with rectangular inlet tube. Bedded manure does not conform well to the rectangular shape, allowing air to travel down the corners of the rectangular tube. This will prevent the manure from advancing into the pump during the suction stroke. The round inlet tube allows the pump and hopper to be oriented in different directions. The pump may be rotated up to 20º to the left or right of the hopper centerline. This may allow for less elbows in the pipe. The hydraulic cylinders on both guillotine gates are equipped with lockout valves. These may be used to lock a guillotine gate in position. This is very useful in the event that the hopper or pipe becomes blocked. The gate nearest the blockage can be locked open and the opposite gate closed, so when the piston is operated it will agitate the blockage and loosen it. Outlet access port In case of a severely blocked pipe, this port offers access for a pipe cleaning service. Bolted outlet Allows a selection of outlet sizes to suit the available pipe in different areas. This bolt flange also makes it possible to detach the pump from the pipe for eventual replacement.

Manure consistency affects these values. They are given as a rough guide only. Manure Type Average Flow Rate Maximum output pressure Maximum length of 40.6 mm (16") pipe Semi-liquid manure, free stall 3.28 l/s (52 GPM) 586 kpa (85 PSI) 100 m (350") barn, small amount of bedding. (Maximum 2 kg straw/cow and day.) 2.65 l/s (42 GPM) 586 kpa (85 PSI) 60 m (200 ) DeLaval semi-solid manure pump SMP60 is a heavy duty hydraulic piston pump designed to transfer manure from the barn to a storage pit. The maximum use of bedding material, straw, is 2 kg/cow and day. The SMP60 is capable of transferring solid or semisolid bedded manure long distances with low power requirements. The 7.5HP hydraulic power unit makes the SMP60 an excellent choice for use with single phase electricity or anywhere that power availability may be limited. Limitations: Requires enough water to allow suction seal to work Long and large amounts of bedding require more added water Always mix very dry materials with wetter materials (pen manure should be mixed with dairy cow manure) Not for use with sand bedding
Principle of operation The SMP60 is a heavy duty hydraulic piston pump designed to transfer manure from the barn to a storage pit. It is activated by hydraulic pressure from Delaval Power Pack. When activated, the sequence is controlled by hydraulic control valves and a mechanical reversing switch. The outlet guillotine valve closes and the inlet guillotine opens. The piston then goes up and siphons the manure from the hopper. When the piston reaches the reversing switch, the inlet guillotine valve closes and the outlet guillotine valve opens. The piston then starts going down and pushes the manure to the storage pit.
Planning Installation layout Full Pit Installation The SMP60 is typically installed below ground level with the hopper at barn cleaner height. From that position, the underground pipe should start straight from the outlet of the piston. The barn cleaners usually reach inside the hopper to drop in the manure. It is also possible to install the hopper below a grid to bring the manure to it with a shovel or a tractor. There are some elements to consider when designing a SMP60 layout. First, the hopper must conform to the barn cleaner configuration. Second, an angle of 30 must be made in the concrete to prevent premature barn cleaner chain and paddle wear. A: Top of hopper at the height of barn cleaner B: Barn cleaner C: Chamfer edge 50 mm (2'') height with 30º slope.
Different hopper configurations There are different hopper configurations depending on the number of barn cleaners and their relative positions. Below there just some examples: Hopper configuration Example Suggested pit dimensions Single Clockwise Barn Cleaner Single Clockwise Barn Cleaner Double Clockwise Barn Cleaner Double Barn Cleaner
