Before first use OPERATION Remove all packaging materials, labels and/or stickers from your appliance. Check package contents for completeness and damage. Do not operate the appliance if package content is incomplete or appear damaged. Return it immediately to the dealer. Clean your appliance thoroughly before using it for the first time ( Cleaning). CAUTION: Danger of suffocation! Packaging materials are not toys. Always keep plastic bags, foils and Styrofoam parts away from babies and children. Packaging material could block nose and mouth and prevent breathing. Place the appliance on a clean, flat and heat resistant surface. Connect the plug (8) to a suitable wall outlet (ill. b ) ( Using the appliance). NOTE: The appliance may produce an odor and emit smoke when switched on for the first time, as residues from the production process are eliminated. This is normal and does not indicate a defect or hazard. When using the appliance for the first time, it is recommended to operate it for at least 5 minutes on its highest setting ( Operation), until no odor or smoke is present. During use, ensure ample ventilation. CAUTION: Never let the power cord (8) come in contact with the waffle plates (3, 5) (ill. e ). CAUTION: Never touch the waffle plates (3, 5) when the appliance is plugged in and switched on (ill. d ). Let the appliance cool completely. Clean the appliance ( Cleaning). Using the appliance Use the appliance for making waffles only. NOTE: The appliance has a rated power of 1200W. Before plugging it into the wall outlet, ensure that the electrical circuit is not overloaded with other appliances. This appliance should always be operated on a separate 120V ~ 60Hz wall outlet. CAUTION: Always use an oven mitten to protect your hand when handling the appliance. Escaping steam can burn and appliance housing is hot. 6 Waffle Maker_103739_IM_US_V4_121204.indd 6 12/4/12 9:46:39 AM

OPERATION NOTE: Make sure the appliance is switched off (set the temperature control knob to 0 ) and the waffle plate is closed before connecting it to a wall outlet. Place the appliance on a clean, flat and heat resistant surface. Insert the plug (8) into a wall outlet (ill. b ). The power indicator (12) and ready indicator (11) turn on. Set the required browning level with the temperature control knob (10). The ready indicator (11) turns off. The appliance will now preheat to the preset temperature. Once the set temperature has been reached, the ready indicator (11) will turn on. The time is about 3 to 5 minutes, which is subject to the temperature control knob setting. Unlock the latch (2) by pressing on its upper part. Lift the upper waffle plate (3) it into a vertical position using the handle (1) (ill. c ). Apply cooking spray or spray butter on the waffle plates (3, 5). Now the appliance is ready for baking waffles. Baking waffles Using the measuring cup (6), pour half a cup of batter onto each waffle square (ill. f ). NOTE: Do not overfill the waffle forms, as any access batter may leak out of the appliance. During the cooking process, the ready indicator (11) will turn on and off several times to ensure a constant temperature. Lower the upper waffle plate (3) and lock it in place (ill. g ). Make sure the appliance is fully closed and the latch (2) has locked in place. Waffles are done in about 3 to 6 minutes, depending on recipe, or when steaming begins to stop. Open the appliance (ill. h ), as previously described, and remove the waffles using a plastic or wooden utensil (ill. i ). NOTE: Never use any metal utensils, as these will damage the nonstick coating. After removing the waffles, keep the waffle plate closed, so that the heat remains inside the appliance for the next set of waffles. Wait until the ready indicator (11) lights up again. Repeat previous steps. Unplug the appliance when you are done with preparing waffles (ill. j ). Both indicator lights switch off. Allow appliance to cool down completely before handling again. 7 Waffle Maker_103739_IM_US_V4_121204.indd 7 12/4/12 9:46:39 AM

RECIPES Basic waffle recipe (for 4 ½ cups of batter, 1.125L) 2 cups (500ml) flour 2 tablespoons (30ml) sugar 1 tablespoon (15ml) baking powder 1 teaspoon (5ml) salt 1 ¾ cups (425ml) milk 1/3 cup (85ml) vegetable oil 2 eggs Combine flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Whisk together milk, oil and eggs. Gradually add milk mixture to the dry ingredients. Stir until batter is even and smooth. Pour batter onto waffle plate. Basic Blueberry Waffles: After pouring batter onto waffle plate (5), sprinkle fresh blueberries over batter, then close the appliance. Whole wheat & Belgian waffles 1 cup whole wheat flower 1/₈ cup sugar 4 teaspoon baking powder ¼ 1 egg teaspoon salt 1 cup milk ¼ ½ cup vegetable oil teaspoon vanilla extract 8 Waffle Maker_103739_IM_US_V4_121204.indd 8 12/4/12 9:46:39 AM

RECIPES In one bowl combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and vanilla extract. In another bowl combine milk, vegetable oil and eggs. Gradually add the liquid ingredients to the flour mixture. Stir until even and smooth. Bake for about 3 minutes. HINTS AND TIPS Most waffle batter can be poured directly onto the nonstick waffle plate (5). Use a cooking spray for dessert waffles or any recipe with a lot of sugar. If your waffles start to stick, the waffle plates (3, 5) may need to be scrubbed with a nylon brush to remove any cooked-on food particles. Most waffles can be made ahead of time and kept warm in a 200 F (90 C) oven. To store waffles, let them cool and then pack into an airtight container. Store in a refrigerator or freezer. Waffles can be reheated in a microwave oven or regular oven. Most waffles are done in about 3 to 6 minutes. Recipes made from scratch may take longer. Check for doneness after approximately 5 minutes or when the steaming stops. If the appliance does not open easily, allow waffles to cook for another minute before checking again. Cleaning Proper maintenance will ensure many years of service from your appliance. Clean the appliance after every use. The appliance contains no user serviceable parts and requires little maintenance. Leave any servicing or repairs to qualified personnel. CAUTION: Always turn the temperature control knob (10) to position 0. Disconnect the plug (8) from the wall outlet (ill. j ). Allow all parts of the appliance to cool down completely. NOTE: Do not immerse the power cord and plug (8) or appliance into water or any other liquid. Do not use abrasive cleaners, steel wool or scouring pads (ill. l ). Dry all parts thoroughly after cleaning, before using or storing the appliance. Ensure that no water enters the appliance housing. Clean the housing of the appliance and waffle plates (3, 5) with a damp, soapy cloth. Rinse cloth and wipe all parts again. Clean the measuring cup (6) under running water or in a dishwasher. Dry the appliance and any accessories thoroughly. 9 Waffle Maker_103739_IM_US_V4_121204.indd 9 12/4/12 9:46:39 AM
