6 ENGLISH Important Read these instrutions for use arefully before using the appliane and save them for future referene. Chek if the voltage indiated on the appliane orresponds to the loal mains voltage before you onnet the appliane. Only onnet the appliane to an earthed wall soket. If the mains ord is damaged, it must be replaed by Philips, a servie entre authorised by Philips or similarly qualified persons in order to avoid a hazard. Always return the appliane to a servie entre authorised by Philips for examination or repair. Do not attempt to repair the appliane yourself, otherwise your guarantee will beome invalid. Clean the separate parts of the fryer thoroughly before using the appliane for the first time (see hapter 'Cleaning'). Make sure all parts are ompletely dry before you fill the fryer with oil or liquid fat. Never immerse the housing, whih ontains eletrial omponents and the heating element, in water nor rinse it under the tap. Always unplug the appliane after use. Do not move the fryer until it has ooled down suffiiently. Do not swith the appliane on before you have filled it with oil or fat. Make sure the fryer is always filled to a level between the two indiation marks on the inside of the inner bowl. Be areful of the hot steam when you open the lid. Keep the appliane out of the reah of hildren when you use it. Do not let the mains ord hang over the edge of the table or worktop on whih the appliane is standing. This appliane is intended for household use only. If the appliane is used improperly or for (semi-)professional purposes or if it is used in a way that is not in aordane with the instrutions for use, the guarantee will beome invalid and Philips will not aept liability for any damage aused. The glass lid of the fryer will beome hot when the appliane is in operation. Only use types of oil or liquid fat that are suitable for deep frying. Solid fat may only be used in aordane with the instrutions in the setion 'Oil and fat' in the hapter 'Preparing for use'. Fry food golden-yellow instead of dark or brown and remove burnt remnants! Do not fry starhy foods, espeially potato and ereal produts, at a temperature above 175C (to minimise the prodution of arylamide). Safety Thermal safety ut-out This appliane is equipped with a thermal safety ut-out that swithes the appliane off if it overheats. This may happen if there is not enough oil or fat in the fryer or if bloks of solid fat are being melted in the fryer, whih will prevent the heating element from being able to give off its heat. Take the following measures when the thermal safety ut-out has swithed the appliane off: 1 Unplug the appliane. 2 Let the oil or fat ool down. 3 Carefully press the reset button at the front of the fryer, above the top right-hand orner of the display, with a very small srewdriver or an unfolded small paperlip (fig. 1). It is also possible to use solid frying fat, but in that ase extra preautions are neessary to prevent the fat from spattering and the heating element from overheating: 1 If you want to use new bloks of fat, melt them slowly over a low heat in a normal pan. 2 Pour the melted fat arefully into the fryer. 3 Store the fryer with the resolidified fat still in it at room temperature. 4 If the fat gets very old, it may start spattering when melted. Punh some holes into the resolidified fat with a fork to prevent this (fig. 2). Be areful not to damage the oating of the inner bowl while doing this. Using the appliane Frying 1 Put the plug in the wall soket. Make sure the ord does not ome into ontat with hot parts of the appliane. 2 Swith the fryer on by means of the on/off swith (fig. 5). Frying tips For preparation times and temperature settings, see the tables at the end of these instrutions for use. Home-made Frenh fries You will make the tastiest and rispiest Frenh fries in the following way: Use firm potatoes and ut them into stiks. Rinse the stiks with old water.this will prevent them from stiking to eah other during frying. Dry the stiks thoroughly. Fry the Frenh fries twie: the first time for 4-6 minutes at a temperature of 160C, the seond time for 5-8 minutes at a temperature of 175C. Before you start the seond frying yle, put the home-made Frenh fries in a bowl and shake them. If you are frying the maximum quantity, lower the basket slowly into the fryer to prevent it from overflowing.

Food from the freezer (-16 to -18C) will ause the oil or fat to ool down onsiderably when it is immersed in it. Beause the food does not sear right away, it may also absorb too muh oil or fat. Take the following measures to prevent this: Preferably allow frozen food to defrost at room temperature before frying. Carefully shake off as muh ie and water as possible and dab the food to be fried until it is properly dry. Do not fry very large quantities at one time (onsult the relevant table with preparation times and frying temperatures). Selet the frying temperature mentioned in the relevant table in these instrutions for use or on the pakage of the food to be fried. If there are no instrutions, selet a temperature of 190C. Lower the food into the oil or fat very gently, sine frozen food may ause the hot oil or fat to start bubbling violently. Chek whether the water reservoir has been inserted properly (you will hear a lik). Swith the appliane on again by means of the on/off swith. Ativate the PreClean funtion within 30 seonds. Make sure the oil or fat in the fryer does not exeed the maximum level.

14 ENGLISH Problem The oil or fat foams strongly during frying. The fryer does not work. The fryer makes plopping sounds that are louder than usual (it is normal for the fryer to make soft plopping sounds). Possible ause The food ontains too muh moisture.
