Signature Series 418 Mhz COMMUNICATOR RECEIVER INSTALLATION AND OPERATIONS MANUAL

General Installation and Operations manual Signature Series 418 Mhz Communicator Receiver and Docking Port Model # BWR-412 The Communicator is a body worn battery operated alerting device that includes the Communication Port charger equipped with battery backup. It can be used with any Silent Call Signature Series 418 MHz transmitter. The transmitters available are the Sound Monitor, Telephone, Doorbell, Smoke Detector, CO Detector, Fire Alarm Transmitter, Door/Window Access, and Pressure Sensitive Door Mat and Bed mat. Installation Installing the Communicator receiver and Communicator Port consists of locating it where it can be seen most effectively for the user. If using the optional Bed Vibrator or Strobe Light then place the Docking Port on a table or night stand near your bed. Plug the power supply into the DC barrel type female jack on the back of the Communicator port (See locations below) and then into any standard household 120v AC outlet. Turn the power switch to the on position. This will also turn on the backup battery. If using the optional Bed Vibrator or Strobe Light, then plug those into the corresponding locations on the back of the Docking Port. Charging You will need to charge your Communicator receiver for 8 hours prior to the first use. Pull the arrow tab from battery door. Place the Communicator receiver into the Communicator port. Note* You must lean the receiver back on a slight angle to install properly into the Communicator port. If you do not do this you risk damaging the charging pins. o If using the Leather Pouch you must remove it before placing the Communicator into the Communicator Port. o If using the optional Rubber Skin you can leave that on the Communicator when placing into the Communicator Port When the Communicator is placed into the Communicator Port the receiver will vibrate to let you know that it has been placed into the docking port properly.

Programming Your Communicator Receiver leaves the factory with the memory erased, so that you are able to program your specific transmitters to your receiver. Each transmitter must be programmed separately. (If you are using a smoke detector or fire transmitter with the Communicator you must program these transmitters first or the supervision will not operate.) On the rear of the Communicator Port is a programming button used to program Signature Series 418 MHz transmitters to the Communicator Receiver. With the Communicator Port power switched on: Press and hold the program button located at the back of the Communicator Port case. All six Icons will illuminate on the Communicator receiver. Hold the program button until the Icons goes out (about 5 seconds) and then the Green Phone Icon blinks 3 times. Release the program button and the Icon s will come back on to indicate that the receiver is now in program mode. It will remain in program mode for approximately 30 seconds then the Icons will go out one at a time to indicate the program time remaining. While in program mode, the receiver will memorize the code of the transmitter and then exit program mode. While the receiver is in program mode, press the button on any 418 Mhz Silent Call corresponding type transmitter. When the receiver receives the transmitted signal, it will memorize the code, exit program mode and indicate the function of the transmitter. (Note, if ALL indicators flash 5 times it indicates that this transmitter has already been stored. It is still stored, but lets you know it has already been saved into memory). Operation When the Communicator receiver is in the Communicator port and detects a signal from a Silent Call 418 MHz transmitter with a matching coding system, it illuminates the corresponding LED icon and activates the Communicator Port s optional bed vibrator and/or strobe light. The alert will continue for approximately 15 seconds after the transmitted signal ceases except in the case of fire. As long as the Smoke Detector and/or Fire Alarm Transmitters continue to send an alert signal, the Communicator receivers alerting mechanisms will remain on. The Communicator has 6 different icon symbols as well as different colors for each signal to help identify which type transmitted signal was sent; Sound, Phone, Door, Weather, CO and Fire. During the day, take the Communicator Receiver out of the Communicator Port and clip it to your belt using the provided leather pouch or place into your pocket. Vibration Signals The Communicator Receiver has a specially defined vibration for each type of alert signal received. (See Reference Guide on Page 6) Battery Backup Mode In the event of a power failure, the Communicator Port will automatically enter into battery backup mode. Note: Programmed transmitter codes are retained in memory even when the power is removed. Last Alert Signal Recall Button Pressing the button on the top side of the Communicator Receiver will recall the last alert signal. The receiver will not vibrate but will light up the signal LED.

Fire Smoke Detector Supervision If the smoke detector or fire transmitter are activated or if there is a problem with the operation of either unit the fire Icon will blink 1 time if detector 1 is in fault, blink 2 times if detector 2 is in fault, blink 3 times if detector 3 is in fault and blink 4 times if detector 4 is in fault. The above process is called supervision which means there is a radio signal sent from the smoke detector or fire transmitter to the receiver intermittently and if that signal is broken because of a problem, it turns on a fire icon to alert you and flashes a number of times to tell you which unit is not working. Erase memory (Performing an erase will remove all learned transmitters codes from your Communicator) With the Communicator Receiver in the Communicator Port, press and hold the learn button on the Communicator port. (see photo on page 1) All lights on the receiver will come on immediately and after 5 seconds all lights except one go out, continue to hold the learn button. After 7 seconds all of the lights will scroll back and forth across the receiver. Release the program button and all previously learned transmitter codes will have been successfully erased.
