If you miss a class you miss a major part of the course, which will be covered in the final examination. (2) GAMES: Games require preparation and consultation with Alex Garvin and TAs. Every student is required to participate in all games during class and will be graded on that participation. In professional life failure to submit on time will result in losing the job. Similarly, failure to submit assignments when due or to be prepared to participate in class will result in an automatic failure. (3) READING: The success of both games and lectures is dependent on familiarity with the reading prior to class. Paperbacks on the reading list are marked with an asterisk(*). All readings are on reserve at the ART & ARCHITECTURE LIBRARY. Since so much of the reading consists of A. Garvin's book, THE AMERICAN CITY: WHAT WORKS, WHAT DOESN'T (2 nd edition), assignments include optional "alternative reading" by other authors covering similar material. They are intended to give a different perspective from that of A. Garvin. The "resources on reserve" are intended to provide background for the games.
