Preliminaries Unpack the appliance carefully. If you dispose of the packaging, do so having regard to any recycling regulations in your area. Inspect the iron carefully. If any item is missing or damaged please contact the Tesco store where you purchased the item, or your nearest Tesco store. Please have your receipt ready when you call. The Soleplate: Remove any protective packaging from the soleplate (3) before use. Polish the soleplate lightly with a clean soft cloth to remove any residues. The soleplate is coated. To protect the finish do not use abrasives to clean the iron and avoid running the iron over metal surfaces, buttons, zippers, etc.. Assembly Set the steam station on a firm level surface. To place the Iron on the iron rest, angle the iron down and place the front of the iron in the rest, then lower the rear of the iron into the rest. Preparing the Anti-Calc Filter Refer to the next two illustrations. 1. Place your hand under the catch in the water tank. Lift the catch up and pull forward to remove the tank. 1 2 2. The anti-calc filter is at the rear of the base. Grasp the anti-calc filter and remove it from the housing. Immerse the filter for two minutes in clean water and then replace the filter. Filling the Water Tank Remove the water tank and open the tank cap. Fill the tank with fresh water using the cup provided.. Do not fill the tank above the MAX mark indicated on the side of the reservoir. If you live in a hard water area, use distilled or de-mineralised water. DO NOT use water with softeners, perfumes or additives. Replace the tank. Hold the rear of the iron rest with one hand and push the tank until it clicks securely into place. MAX Page 4

Operation The Control Panel High Steam indicator Medium Steam Indicator Low Steam Indicator Switching on and off Power Indicator Reset Button Descale Indicator On/Off Button Low Water Indicator Steam Selector To switch on: Press the On/Off button. The power indicator will illuminate and the low steam level indicator will flash. This is the iron s default operating state. To switch off: Press and hold the On/Off button. The power indicator and all other indicators will be extinguished and the appliance may be disconnected from the power supply. DO NOT unplug the steam station from the mains when any indicator is lit. Always power down first. Operating the iron 1. Unwind and straighten the power and iron supply cords. 2. Fill the tank and position the iron on its rest. 3. Connect the appliance to the mains supply. 4. Press the ON/OFF button to switch the appliance on. 5. Turn the Temperature Dial on the iron clockwise to the required temperature position to suit the fabric being ironed. (Refer to Page 6 for guidance). The pilot light on the iron glows. When the required temperature is reached the pilot light goes off. During use the pilot light will go on and off as the thermostat maintains the iron at the correct temperature. Steam Ironing Steam Ironing should be carried out at the highest settings on the temperature dial. 1. Press the Steam Selector button to select High, Medium or Low steam as required. The chosen steam indicator will flash. When the indicator glows steadily, this indicates that the iron can now be used for steam ironing. 2. Press the Steam trigger for steam ironing. Release the trigger to shut off the steam and return to normal (dry) ironing. Whenever the steam button on the iron is depressed the steam pump in the base of the appliance will be distinctly audible. This is normal and not a fault. As the soleplate heats up, a little steam will emerge from the soleplate. This will continue for about 3 seconds and is normal. 5 MAX MAX Page 5

Before using the iron for the first time: 1. Remove any protective film from the soleplate. 2. Unwind and straighten the power and iron supply cords. 3. Fill the reservoir with water. 4. Connect the appliance to the mains supply. 5. Press the Mains ON/OFF switch to switch the unit on. 6. Select Medium Steam 7. Turn the Temperature Dial on the iron clockwise to the MAX position. The pilot light glows. When the required temperature is reached the pilot light goes off. 8. Depress the Steam Trigger. The steam pump operates and steam will emerge. 9. Pass the iron over an old cotton cloth or towel for several minutes to remove any deposits from the soleplate, to allow any debris from the iron to dissipate and to clean out the steam chamber. Some parts have been lightly greased and the iron might smoke slightly when switched on for the first time. After a short while, this will cease. Dry Ironing Set the iron to the desired temperature and wait for the pilot light to go out. Do not press the Steam Trigger. Dry ironing can be carried out at any temperature setting. When dry ironing at high temperature settings take care not to scorch the fabric. There should be sufficient water in the tank whether you are dry or steam ironing. Auto Switch-Off If the iron is operated without steam for 10 minutes (or is left idle for 10 minutes) the iron will turn off automatically. This is a safety feature. Ironing Temperatures and Hints Check the ironing instructions attached to the article (they are on a label showing a symbol of an iron). Always follow these ironing instructions. The indications on the iron s temperature dial and the table below will help you. If there are no ironing instructions but you know the fabric, then use the table below. The table is valid only for the actual materials and does not take account of any finish applied to the fabric. Textiles to which a finish has been applied (wrinkle relief, printed T shirts etc.) should be ironed at lower temperatures. If the fabric contains mixed fibres, select the lowest ironing temperature of the composition, e.g. iron a 60% polyester /40% cotton mix at the temperature indicated for polyester. Do not iron Synthetics. Set Iron to LOW ( ) Wool, Silk. Set Iron to MEDIUM ( ) Cotton, Linen. Set Iron to HIGH ( ) The iron heats up quicker than it cools down. Sort fabrics to be ironed into groups according to temperature; wool with wool, cotton with cotton, etc. Start by ironing articles requiring low temperature settings and progress to higher ones. Note: Do not iron garments that are dirty or stained. The iron s heat may set the stain. Pure (100%) wool fabrics may be pressed by dry ironing with the iron set to a steam position and the garment protected by a dry cloth. To avoid giving wool garments a shine you can turn the garment inside out and iron it on the wrong side. During Ironing: In between operations always stand the iron on its heel or on the steam station rest. NEVER leave the iron face down. Page 6

Vertical Steam Select the Steam level and wait for the selector to stop flashing. Set the iron to its highest temperature and wait for the pilot light to go out. Set the iron vertical. Hold the iron away from you and 15 30 centimetres from the garment. Press the Steam Button for a few seconds. Steam will penetrate into the garment removing the wrinkles. For stubborn wrinkles: Wait a few seconds. Repeat the procedure. Most wrinkles can be removed within three presses. Warning: DO NOT allow anyone to come near you during this process. NEVER allow steam to get anywhere near your body or clothing or apply steam to clothes or fabrics that are being worn by humans or pets. DANGER OF SCALDING. Hold the iron facing away from you at all times. DO NOT OVERREACH or operate the iron while standing on a ladder etc. Make sure that the power cord and the iron cords remain slack and that there is no danger of overturning the steam station base. CONTROL PANEL WARNINGS AND ACTIONS Low Water Level Indicator If the water in the tank is too low, the low water level indicator will illuminate. You will hear two beeps and the steam generator will shut off. You must now refill the water tank and reset the appliance. After refilling the tank, press the Reset Button once to extinguish the low water level indicator. You can now release steam for ironing Descaling Indicator If the mineral deposits in the anti-calc filter have reached a high level the descaling indicator flashes and will continue to flash until the anti-calc filter is replaced. 1. Depress and hold the On/Off button to switch the appliance off. 2. The anti-calc filter is in the base. Grasp the anti-calc filter and remove it from the housing following the procedure on Page 4. Dispose of the used filter at a recycling centre. 3. A replacement anti-calc filter is provided. Unwrap the filter and place it for two minutes in clean water before inserting it in the steam station. 4. Switch the appliance on with the On/Off button. 5. If the descaling indicator stays on after replacing the filter, press the Reset button to reset the unit before resuming operations. If the indicator still stays on, switch the unit off. Remove and re-fit the filter before switching on and resetting the unit again. Do not operate the iron with an ineffective anti-calc filter, or without a filter. The pump action of the appliance will be impaired and the steam function could fail altogether. If you live in a hard water area, using demineralised or distilled water will prolong the life of the anti-calc filter. Page 7

After you have finished ironing: Press and hold the On/Off button to switch the appliance off. Switch the unit off at the mains and unplug. Stand the iron on the iron rest on the Steam Station and let the iron cool down fully. Remove the water tank, empty the tank and replace it. Never leave water in the tank when the appliance is not in use. Care and Cleaning Unplug the unit from the mains and allow it to cool down fully. Cleaning: To remove deposits from the soleplate, apply a small amount of mild cleaner to a damp cloth, forming a paste on the cloth. Gently rub the soleplate, then wipe with a moist cloth. The body of the iron and the steam station base may be cleaned with a barely damp cloth and then dried thoroughly. Do not wet the appliance body, cord or mains plug. A very small amount of water may accumulate under the appliance from the drain hole in the base (see P. 3). If this occurs wipe it up with a cloth. CAUTION: Never use scouring pads, abrasives or harsh cleaners on any part of the appliance or the iron soleplate. Storage: When not in use the appliance should be securely stored out of the reach of children. Store the iron on the rest with the cord loosely looped. You can use the clip on the side to retain excess cord. DO NOT wind the cord tightly around the appliance. If the cord has become kinked during use, straighten it out. Do NOT store the iron face down on any hard surface or you may damage the finish on the soleplate. Anti-Calc Filter: Your appliance is equipped with an anti-calc filter. As a result, you can use tap water as it will be filtered by the cartridge. It is necessary to replace the cartridge approximately every 3-6 months depending on the frequency of use and the hardness of the water in your area. If the water contains high lenels of scale, you will have to replace the cartridge more frequently. You can delay the replacement of the cartridge by using demineralized water or a mixture of 50% tap water and 50% distilled water to fill the water tank. When you put a new anti-calc cartridge in the appliance, immerse it in water for two minutes before inserting it in the appliance. To buy a new cartridge: please contact your supplying Tesco store or navigate to the steam station model number (IRSG2416) on the Tesco website www.tesco.com/direct and follow the instructions.
