Evans guide to Floor Care EVANS VANODINE INTERNATIONAL

Depend on Evans whatever the task In an industry where labour costs are a major concern, it is imperative to ensure the most cost effective products are used. Choosing the right product involves careful consideration of the type of floor, traffic density and the cleaning system in operation and also the impact on the environment. Evans Vanodine understand these complex requirements and have produced this Floor Care Guide to eliminate guess work, choose the product fit for purpose, avoid wasted time, and thereby reduce maintenance costs and the impact on the environment. EMULSION FLOOR POLISHES & PRIMER Page 1 Evans use the very best ingredients available and have a vast knowledge of polymer chemistry, which ensures all our polishes provide superior durability, exceptional slip retardancy and extreme resistance to scuff marks These easy to apply polishes have excellent levelling properties, outstanding gloss finishes and consistently achieve optimum results for great looking floors. EMULSION FLOOR POLISH STRIPPERS Page 2 Improvements in the durability of polishes and the latest burnishing techniques have resulted in the introduction of new and improved emulsion polish strippers. Evans polish strippers are designed to remove all types of modern emulsion floor polishes, including heavy build up, and usually in one application. FLOOR MAINTENANCE PRODUCTS Page 3 It is important to use maintenance products which successfully respond to your cleaning programme and therefore achieve maximum performance. Evans maintainers are specifically developed to quickly remove soiling, improve the appearance of the floor, and most importantly, extend the durability of the floor polish. FLOOR SEALS Page 4 Wood, cork and concrete floors are extremely porous and if left untreated are easily stained by dirt, oil and grease. Evans floor seals provide a tough, durable and yet attractive finish, which protects the floor surface and makes cleaning far easier. WAX POLISH Page 4 Evans solvent based wax polish feeds, protects and preserves wooden floors and produces a beautiful, rich finish. The combined blend of refined solvents and natural waxes, provide an efficient, self-cleaning and polishing action in one simple operation. LOW FOAM CLEANERS Page 5 When used in automatic combination machines, conventional cleaning products generate excessive foam, causing the premature cut off of the vacuum motor and potential machine damage. Evans low foam cleaners are especially designed for use in combination machines, and suit all types of floors, systems and cleaning programmes. GENERAL CLEANERS Page 5 The blending of raw materials to maximise the performance of a hard surface cleaner is paramount to ensure a quick effective cleaning action without harming the surface. Evans manufacture a wide selection of products to suit all cleaning applications & requirements, two of our most popular are shown in this brochure.

EMULSION FLOOR POLISHES & PRIMER FOR VINYL, RUBBER, LINOLEUM, MARBLE, TERAZZO & SEALED FLOOR SURFACES ENHANCE Ultra High Solids Metalised Polish MEXAPOL High Solids Metalised Polish SUS-TAIN Medium Solids Metalised Polish OVACRYL Buffable Polish SEALANT B Emulsion Polish Primer The premium polish for prestigious floors. Solids content 25% Contains cross-linked polymers for extra durability Superior response to ultra & high speed spray cleaning & burnishing Produces a brilliant wet look gloss Ideal for very heavy Provides an extended high gloss which requires minimum maintenance Solids content 21% Will respond to high speed burnishing or spray cleaning For medium to heavy Economical & well established dry bright polish Solids content 15% Easily maintained by damp mopping or spray cleaning For light to medium Dries to a good initial gloss which can be improved by burnishing Contains special acrylic & wax emulsions Recommended for use on old, porous or problem floors For light to medium For use on old, worn or porous floors Penetrates into the surface Provides a solid foundation Acts as an undercoat Maximises polish performance The application of ENHANCE, MEXAPOL, SUS-TAIN, OVACRYL and SEALANT B is identical. Coverage 400-500 sq metres per 5 litres. 1. Place a WET FLOOR 2. Ensure floor is clean, dry and neutral. 3. Use undiluted. 4. Pour the polish into a clean bucket or tray, place clean new mop or applicator into polish and lightly squeeze out the surplus. 6. For small areas pour the polish directly on to the floor in a thin line & spread out evenly. 7. Apply 1st coat thinly and evenly in a WEST to EAST direction over the total area of the floor. 8. Leave to dry, approximately 30 minutes. 9. Apply 2nd coat thinly and evenly at a right angle to 1st coat, i.e. NORTH to SOUTH direction. Leave a gap of approximately 150cm (6 ) from the skirting board, on this and any further coats of polish to avoid a build up. 10. Leave to dry, approximately 30 minutes. 11. The floor may require more than the normal 2 coats of polish, depending on age, desired level of protection, porosity of floor and the system being worked. N.B. After using Sealant B apply two coats of polish. Points to remember Always apply polish or primer with a new, clean or specially designated mop or applicator. Do not use a mop which has been used for other purposes such as polish stripping. If a clean bucket is not available and to ensure your bucket does not contaminate the polish, place a new black bag in the bucket & fill with polish. Any polish left in bucket, bag or tray should be discarded and not returned to the container, as this will contaminate the remaining polish. If a floor seal has been applied to a wood or concrete floor allow 7 days for it to cure before applying a floor polish. CO-EFFICIENT OF FRICTION CHOICE OF EMULSION FLOOR POLISH The accepted pass mark for testing slip retardancy using a Co-efficient of Friction Machine is 0.4, Readings above this figure indicate improved slip retardancy. During our extensive quality control procedure, we make certain our emulsion floor polishes provide a minimum co-efficient of friction of 0.6, to ensure the polished floor surface is slip retardant. High and ultra high speed burnishing will improve the gloss finish and, contrary to the general public s opinion, will also increase the co-efficient of friction, to make the floor even more slip retardant. This chart is a guide designed to help you choose the correct polish to obtain the best results for your system. Whether that is with or without a FLOOR MACHINE. As you can appreciate there are many anomalies, if you require clarification, help or advice please do not hesitate to contact your LOCAL DISTRIBUTOR or EVANS VANODINE Technical Sales Department. EMULSION FLOOR POLISH STRIPPERS EMULSION FLOOR POLISH STRIPPERS EASY STRIP Rinse Free Polish Stripper Sure Strip Floor Polish Stripper Improvements in the formulation of emulsion floor polishes, together with the latest burnishing techniques and maintenance procedure, now leave a much harder and more durable polish film. The performance of Evans Polish Strippers has been improved accordingly, both EASY STRIP and SURE STRIP are designed to effectively remove all types of modern emulsion polish, including polish build up, quickly and easily. Powerful, quick & effective action. Removes stubborn polish film and heavy build up For use with or without a floor machine Low ph. Eliminates the need to neutralise Popular, heavy duty formulation Low odour, quick effective stripping action Removes resistant polish film For use in conjunction with a floor machine MACHINE STRIPPING This system is a popular and economical method especially suitable for large areas. 2. Attach stripping grade pad or brush to floor machine. 3. Add POLISH STRIPPER carefully to hot water in mop bucket, or machine tank. SURE STRIP Dilute upto 1:20 EASY STRIP Dilute upto 1:50 4. Apply solution onto a section of floor. The first mopping action should run parallel with the skirting board, and then at right angles in a systematic figure of eight motion (see illustration). 5. Leave solution for 5 minutes to soften the polish. Keep floor wet by applying further solution if required. 6. Scrub the floor, overlapping each pass of the machine until polish is removed (see illustration). 7. Remove slurry with wet pick-up vacuum or mop. 8. Rinse thoroughly with clean water, A) After using SURE STRIP neutralise floor by adding 1 part acetic acid (vinegar) to 300 parts cold water in a mop bucket = 1 x 5lt capful per 5lt. Damp mop the surface with solution. B) After using EASY STRIP. Providing all slurry residue is completely removed it is not necessary to rinse, but check floor is neutral. 9. Wipe skirting board with damp cloth to remove any splashes caused by the stripping process. MOP STRIPPING This system is suitable for small and confined areas, especially where access for a FLOOR MACHINE is limited. A powerful specialised product such as EASY STRIP will soften and remove polish without the necessity of an aggressive scrubbing action. 2. Sweep floor. 3. Apply solution generously over a small section of the floor. 4. Leave for 5 minutes. Agitate surface with mop to assist polish removal. Keep floor wet by applying further solution if required. 5. Remove slurry with wet vacuum or mop. If necessary, re-apply solution and repeat procedure until polish is removed. 6. Rinse thoroughly with clean water. SPRAY STRIPPING This system is ideal for areas which are unable to be closed, or when conventional polish stripping is inappropriate. 2. Sweep floor. 3. Dilute EASY STRIP 1:20 with cold water in a hand spray. 4. Attach a stripping pad to floor machine. 5. Spray solution sparingly onto a small area of floor. 6. Machine scrub until the polish has been removed. 7. It will be necessary to change the floor pad frequently. 8. Sweep floor to remove dust. Damp mop with clean water. Apply stripping solution onto a section of floor Overlap each pass of the machine Remove slurry with wet pick-up vacuum MACHINE POLISH STRIPPING When stripping polish from a floor it is advisable to comply with good safe working practise and avoid standing on the wet solution. We suggest a working team of 2 or 3 personnel, one person applying the solution, one person operating the floor scrubbing machine and one person drying the surface by wet pick-up vacuum or mop. Progress across the floor in approximately 1 metre wide sections ensuring that the operators feet are always on dry ground. 2

FLOOR SEALS FOR INTERIOR WOOD, CORK & CONCRETE FLOORS WAX POLISH FOR UNSEALED WOOD FLOOR SEALS SUPERSEAL Polyurethane Floor Seal OLEO RESIN Oleo Resinous Seal SEAL AQUA Water Based Polyurethane Floor Seal SIRTAN LIQUID Liquid Wax Polish Wood, cork and concrete floors are extremely porous and, if left untreated are easily stained by dirt, oil and grease. Concrete is prone to dusting and is very difficult to clean and maintain. Evans floor seals are formulated to provide a tough, durable yet attractive finish, which protects the floor surface, alleviates the problems of porosity and makes cleaning far easier. A section of wood floor treated with SUPERSEAL Very popular hard wearing air drying varnish Provides a tough protective gloss finish Produces a rich natural look on wood surfaces Suitable for heavy Pack: 5 litre tin Proven & well established air drying floor varnish Dries to a hard durable gloss finish Outstanding resistance to alkali, therefore highly recommended for concrete floors Suitable for medium to heavy Pack: 5 litre tin Low odour, nonflammable air drying seal Provides a hard wearing gloss finish Quick drying - allows faster application of additional costs Produces a natural appearance Can be used on top of conventional solvent based floor seals Suitable for medium Top quality solvent based polish Manufactured using high quality hard wax Produces a rich natural look Protects & preserves the floor surface Burnishes to a slip retardant gloss finish Pack: 5 litre tin The application of SUPERSEAL, OLEO RESIN & SEAL AQUA is identical. FLOOR PREPARATION: Untreated floor surfaces should be free from wax, oil & grease and completely clean & dry. If the sealed floor has been previously treated with emulsion floor polish, remove by using EASY STRIP or SURE STRIP. For optimum results, the old floor seal should be removed by sanding. However, if the old seal is intact, a compatible floor seal can be applied once the surface has been thoroughly cleaned. 1. Use undiluted. 2. Apply a thin, even coat with a seal applicator or clean, soft brush. 3. Allow to dry for a minimum of 8 hours, preferably overnight. N.B. SEAL AQUA can be re-coated after 2 hours. 4. Apply a second coat and allow to dry, as 1st coat. If the floor is porous a third coat may be necessary. Additional coats can be applied if required. Drying times can vary depending on application, conditions, temperature and humidity. Sanding in-between coats is not necessary, but a light sand with a medium grade floor pad will help key the surface, especially if a 3rd or 4th coat is being applied. After the final coat leave for a minimum of 12 hours before subjecting to traffic or 24 hours before cleaning. Floors treated with SEAL AQUA should be left for 24 hours before subjecting to normal use. MAINTENANCE 1. Damp mop with a neutral hard surface cleaner, such as HIGH CLASS. 2. To prolong the life of the seal and maintain its appearance, after 7 days, when the floor seal has cured, we recommend the application of 2 coats of metallised emulsion floor polish, such as ENHANCE, MEXAPOL or SUS-TAIN. Prior to applying the floor polish, a gentle machine scrub with a medium grade floor pad will provide a key to the surface. MOP APPLICATION 1. Ensure floor is clean and dry. 2. Use undiluted. 3. Apply a thin coat of SIRTAN LIQUID with mop or applicator. 4. Allow to dry. 5. Burnish with floor machine and polishing pad to a gloss finish. MAINTENANCE 1. Sweep the floor daily to remove dust and debris. Remove scuff marks and maintain gloss by machine burnishing using a standard or high speed floor machine. Before using any floor seal, apply to a small test area to check for compatibility, adhesion and appearance. All newly laid concrete floors should be allowed to dry out before applying a floor seal. Leave for 1 month per 1 thickness (25mm), to enable the moisture to evaporate and reduce the likelihood of flaking. Floors previously treated with hardeners, such as POINTS TO REMEMBER silicate dressing, should not be coated with a FLOOR SEAL, as adhesion will be adversely affected. A moisture curing seal will begin to harden when it comes into contact with atmospheric moisture. A certain degree of humidity will actually quicken the drying time, although cold wet weather will slow down the process. It is important to note partially used containers will usually solidify within 24 hours and should therefore, be used within this period. An air drying seal will only harden by oxidisation, that is by contact with oxygen in the air. Therefore a closed, partially used container will have a longer shelf life, but it is still advisable to use the product within 4 weeks. Allow the floor seal 7 days to cure before applying an emulsion floor polish. APPROXIMATE COVERAGE OF FLOOR SEALS SURFACE ONE TWO COATS COATS HARDWOOD 50-60 sq. mtr 30-35 sq. mtr SOFTWOOD 40-50 sq. mtr 25-30 sq. mtr CORK 40-50 sq. mtr 25-30 sq. mtr CONCRETE 45-50 sq. mtr 25-30 sq. mtr THE FIRST COAT WILL PENETRATE INTO THE FLOOR SURFACE A BETTER COVERAGE RATE IS ACHIEVED FOR THE SECOND AND SUBSEQUENT COATS. POINTS TO REMEMBER SIRTAN LIQUID wax is recommended for unsealed wooden floors and is not suitable for rubber, thermoplastic, vinyl, asphalt or other solvent sensitive floor surfaces. Burnishing with a floor machine and polishing pad not only helps clean and provide a good shine, it also improves slip retardancy. Coverage rate for 5 litres is approximately 200 square metres. 4

LOW FOAM CLEANERS FOR USE IN COMBINATION MACHINES GENERAL CLEANERS AUTOMATIC COMBINATION SCRUBBER DRYER MACHINES are available in a variety of sizes and cleaning widths, with mains or battery power. This method of cleaning is highly effective for medium to large floor areas. Conventional cleaning products generate excessive foam, which can cause the premature cut off of the vacuum motor in the recovery tank and therefore potential machine damage. EVANS have developed two products especially for use in COMBINATION MACHINES which will suit all types of floor systems and cleaning programmes. LOW FOAM LIGHT Neutral Cleaner LOW FOAM HEAVY Heavy Duty Cleaner VERSATILE Hard Surface Cleaner Surface Cleane MYSTROL Multi Purpose Cleaner Neutral formulation Highly recommended for Marble, Terrazzo and all polished floors Will remove light & general soiling Unperfumed Ideal for supermarkets, shopping & leisure centres Low foam, alkali formulation Rapid cleaning action Removes general & heavy soiling Unperfumed Suitable for factories, warehouses and all general industrial floors Quick acting cleaner & degreaser Removes stubborn stains & heavy soiling Suitable for a wide range of cleaning applications Ideal in a spray on wipe off system Recommended for spray cleaning floors Concentrated heavy duty cleaner for those tough cleaning jobs Removes difficult soiling quick as a flash Suitable on all washable surfaces Leaves a clean fresh lemon fragrance Recommended for use as a carpet pre-spray treatment, also available in a 750ml ready to use spray bottle Fill the solution tank in the combination scrubber dryer with water and add 1-2% of the chosen product. The AUTOMATIC MACHINE will simultaneously scrub the floor and wet vacuum the soiled water into the recovery tank. For very heavily soiled floors make the first pass of the machine without utilising the vacuum, to allow the chemical a longer contact to emulsify the dirt. On the second pass, switch on the vacuum, scrub floor and recover soiling as normal. GENERAL CLEANING 1. Place WET FLOOR 2.
