Cleaning and Maintenance WARNING: To avoid electrical shock, always unplug unit before cleaning or defrosting. Failure to follow this instruction can result in death or injury. Cleaning General: Prepare a cleaning solution of 1-2 tablespoons of baking soda mixed with warm water. Using a soft cloth or sponge dampened with the cleaning solution, wipe down interior and exterior of unit. Rinse with clean, warm water and dry with a soft cloth. Never use an abrasive cleanser or pad as this could damage the finish. Gaskets: Clean door gaskets every three months according to the general instructions shown above. Apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly to the hinge side of the gasket to keep the gasket pliable and to ensure a good seal. Defrosting WARNING: Do not use a sharp or metallic instrument to remove frost as damage to tubing may occur. Damaged tubing can result in leakage of refrigerant, which can lead to personal injury. For maximum energy efficiency, defrost freezer when frost on walls is 1/8" or more in thickness. Note that frost tends to accumulate more during summer months. Troubleshooting Problem Possible Cause Remedy Freezer does not operate. Food temperature is too warm. Cleaning and Maintenance (cont d) Power Interruption Remove the power cord from the electrical outlet when a power outage occurs. When power is restored, replace the plug to the AC outlet and inspect food for spoilage. Clean the inside of the freezer according to general cleaning instructions. Long Term Care and Moving When the freezer will not be used for an extended period of time, remove contents, unplug unit and clean gaskets. Prop the door open to allow air circulation. Only move the unit when it is vertical. Moving the unit in a horizontal position can cause damage to the refrigerant and compressor. There is no power to the freezer. Door seal. Warm food has not had time to reach freezer temperature. Check that the power cord is plugged in. If there is power at the AC outlet, check the circuit breaker. Check door gasket for proper seal; reduce frequency of door openings. Wait two hours and check food again. NOTE: Defrosting can take several hours: have a plan in place to store frozen foods in order to keep them frozen. Temperature is set too high. Adjust temperature to a colder setting. To defrost, remove food and unplug freezer. To speed up defrost time, keep door open and place a bowl of warm water inside unit. Caution: Do not use boiling water to melt accumulated frost as damage to plastic parts can occur. Once defrosting is complete, wipe down interior of freezer following general cleaning instructions. Plug unit back in and wait 24 hours before putting food back into freezer. Freezer runs too frequently. Door seal. Ambient temperature or humidity is high. Check door gasket for proper seal; reduce frequency of door openings. This is normal operating condition. 8 Wards.com 1 888 557 3848 9

Troubleshooting (cont d) Problem Possible Cause Remedy Freezer has an odor. Freezer door does not shut properly. Moisture buildup on interior or exterior of freezer. Interior needs cleaning. Foods are causing odor. Freezer is not level. Food contents are causing a blockage. Door was reversed improperly. Humidity is high. Door seal. Follow general cleaning instructions. Check food for spoilage or improper wrapping/ sealing. Adjust leveling feet to level freezer. Check and rearrange contents of freezer. See Door Reversal section and check installation of door. This is normal operating condition. Check door gaskets for proper seal; reduce door openings. Energy-Saving Tips To keep your freezer in good working condition and to optimize energy saving, follow these tips: Check space around freezer to make sure that air flow is not obstructed. Allow food that isn t already frozen to cool down to room temperature before placing it in the freezer. Avoid keeping the door open for long periods or opening the door too frequently as warm air will enter the cabinet, lower the efficiency of the freezer and increase the work of the compressor. Ensure there are no obstructions preventing the door from closing properly. Defrost freezer when frost builds up to 1/8" thick. Do not overstock freezer. Technical Specifications Freezer is located by a window. Move freezer away from direct sunlight. Storage Capcity 5.1 cu. ft. Size (width/height/depth) 21½" W x 49¾" H x 22½" D Weight 104 lbs.
