Dry SYstem TECNOCLIMA GENERAL CATALOGUE 2009

HISTORY OF A SUCCESS HISTORY Tecnoclima S.p.a was founded, and is now situated in the province of Trento, in 1973 by Alfonso Vescovi, an expert in the heating and air conditioning field. The company s is to produce equipment for hot-blast heating, ventilation, air-drying and heat recovery, as well as units for air treatment and air conditioning. Nowadays the company extends over a surface area of 40,000 square meters and its core business is that of the treatment of air. Furthermore, through direct exchange technology (DRY) Tecnoclima carries out the task of dominating the technological, production and sales aspects of its sector.

PRODUCTION Tecnoclima designs and builds equipment that has been certified by the most prestigious testing boards. The quality of the widest product range of the sector is assured by the careful selection of materials, stringent operational testing, to which all products are subjected by following the procedures stated in the company s quality manual, and numerous international certifications. Over 300 models have been designed for heating and conditioning industrial, small business, civil, agricultural and residential environments as well as for emergency use. A particularly distinguished work that Tecnoclima always recounts with pride, is the realization of the air conditioning system in the Ferrari Scaglietti factory in Modena. This particular system has been realized with independent fully integrated roof top air treatment units using direct exchange technology (DRY). Other works deserving particular mention are the systems realized at the Siemens factory (in Germany) and the units furnished for the air heating and conditioning of some of the buildings used during the Winter Olympic games held in Turin in 2006. Furthermore, Tecnoclima realized the heating and conditioning system for the most important Outlet shop center of Italy, in Barberino del Mugello and the equipments for the heating of diamonds mines in Yakutia, Siberia and for Hyundai motors in Russia. 2

SUBSIDIARIES Tecnoclima manages to head its air sector also by operating through a number of direct subsidiaries: - Lyon s EMAT, France s leader in the warm air heating sector. - CLIMA ITALIA, which has been active for over twenty years with high-technology equipment in the air treatment and air conditioning sector. FUNDAMENTAL GROWTH FACTORS Founded through the combination of the dynamic efforts and professionalism of Alfonso Vescovi, unified with the great managerial talents of the Riello Group, Tecnoclima now boasts over thirty years of specialized experience in its field. This experience united with a dynamic policy emphasizing export, international expansion and diversification that are the fundamental factors behind the company s extraordinary growth. 3

EXPORT Tecnoclima has exported equipment and technology ever since the company was founded. Specific development projects in this regard are carried out when necessary. Such a significant project was successfully completed in 1984, when the company achieved a triumphal success on the difficult Canadian market by selling a patent for the on-site construction of innovative equipment, with exceptionally high yield, to a Canadian company. Today Tecnoclima operates on the global market and exports products to more than forty countries around the world. INTERNATIONAL EXPANSION Tecnoclima directly controls its principal markets with its own trademarks, organizational structures and sales networks. Determining factors behind the company s sales growth have been the purchase of EMAT in France, and the coordinating of a network of sales representatives and dealers, that together assure competent service throughout Europe. DIVERSIFICATION CLIMA ITALIA has enabled the company to broaden its line from heating to air conditioning equipment, thus providing important synergy among its subsidiaries. Today Tecnoclima is an industrial reality with significant, specialized experience, as well as multiple, complementary activities and a strong presence on every continent. 4

DRY SYSTEM PHENOMENOLOGY DIRECT EXCHANGE (DRY) AIR HEATING AND COOLING: the reasons of its convenience Traditionally, the energy consumption of a thermal system is given by the amount of fuel burned to heat the room and the amount of fuel burned but not used due to dispersion as a result of the transformation stages between the energy produced by fuel and the energy actually transmitted to heated rooms. SYSTEM EFFICIENCY The transformation stages, from the source to the actual use of the heat (heat production, distribution, emission and regulation), have their own energy consumption for steady operation, and result in a considerable reduction in the thermal system s global efficiency and in the overall performance. OPERATING COSTS Unlike the traditional air heating via an intermediate fluid (WET), using water as vector fluid, the innovative direct exchange air heating technology (DRY) uses water as the vector fluid producing a concrete reduction in operating costs, as well as substantially lowering the system costs. PERFORMANCE The most important feature of this system is that the produced heat is directly and immediately transferred to the room to be heated, thus skipping the inefficient transformation stages and having as a result, a much better overall performance. ENERGY SAVING The direct exchange (DRY) technology, makes it possible to cut the time required to reach and obtain the steady conditions inside the room to be heated, ensuring a better global efficiency of the system and consequently, a satisfactory energy saving and a reduction of the amount of noxious emissions with the same power input. It achieves it thanks to the absence of thermal inertia required by the pre-heating of the vector fluid (water or steam) and by the loss caused by the production and distribution equipment. HEATING AND CONDITIONING As for the heating also for the conditioning of the air, the peculiarity of the direct exchange technology (DRY) is that it delivers the energy directly to the room with no loss, reaching the highest effectiveness. Products using the direct exchange technology (DRY) are autonomous and independent from other energy sources, always giving them a considerable flexibility in energy utilization. As a result, DRY technology assures in air heating as well as in air conditioning by far the best result in terms of global efficiency. 5

condensing autonomus single-package air treatment unit featuring top efficiency systems The CONDENSING AUTONOMOUS SINGLE-PACKAGE AIR TREATMENT UNIT KLIMAXs provides an overall and complete ambient air treatment. It employs several technologies at the same time in order to maximise energy efficiency. As a matter of fact, this equipment combines different technologies to filter, heat, cool, renew and supplement with fresh air the air to be supplied to residential, commercial and industrial premises. It also features a static economiser with crossed jets to use the air outlet energy that would be otherwise lost. Furthermore, this air treatment unit combines the free-cooling and free-heating functions. Cooling is performed without any intermediate fluid, through the so-called technique of mechanical compression and direct expansion of the refrigerating gas. In order to optimise consumptions and get immediate energy efficiency, the heating phase employs two different systems: it can be performed either by heat pump technology or by direct exchange technology featuring a INOX stainless steel condensing heat exchanger supplied with gaseous fuel. As a result, the KLIMAXs unit guarantees the highest overall seasonal performances since it employs two separate, mutually independent refrigerating circuits for cooling purposes. Heating is performed by heat pump in case of temperatures up to +5 C, while the condensing heat exchanger featuring a progressive modulating gas burner is employed in case of temperatures down to -20 C. Thanks to the use of a frequency changer and proportional movement dampers, it is possible to independently and precisely regulate the inlet and outlet air flows thereby setting the pressurisation level of the premises to be treated. All functions are managed in a fully automatic way by means of a complete and well-tested electronic controller placed on the equipment side. The controller can be interfaced with a user-friendly remote control system or with other more complex devices. The inlet and outlet air to be treated can be directed either vertically or horizontally in order to meet the most diversified installation needs. The product s excellent characteristics are completed by low-level noise running. Product safety is certified by renowned and professional International Authorities. CONDENSING AUTONOMUS SINGLE-PACKAGE AIR TREATMENT UNIT FEATURING HIGH PERFORMANCES The CF-GAS 800/1200 autonomous single-package CONDENSATION AIR TREATMENT UNITS provide for complete air treatment. This equipment combines several technologies to filter, heat, cool and dehumidify the air to be supplied to commercial and industrial premises. The unit consists mainly of an isolated cabinet receiving the air flow generated by the ventilator group and where a top-efficiency condensation heat exchanger is installed, thereby providing for heating effect modulation. In the heating phase, the heat exchanger transfers heat energy through direct exchange between flue gas and the air flow to be heated. Namely, the air flow passes onto the heat exchanger s hot surface and is thereby warmed up to be later supplied to the environment. Also cooling is performed without any intermediate fluid, through the so-called technique of mechanical compression and direct expansion of the refrigerating gas something which can be achieved thanks to two separate refrigerating circuits working independently. The centrifugal fan s characteristics make this equipment suitable to be installed wherever very high static pressure is required. The unit can perform air mixture, renovation, filtering and discharge, as well as just room ventilation during summertime. The direct exchange technology employed by this equipment requires lower installation costs but first and foremost allows a tangible reduction of operating cost. As a matter of fact, the most important feature of this system is that heat is directly transferred to the premises to be heated, thereby avoiding inefficient transformation stages. The result is a much higher overall performance of the whole system. The CF-GAS unit is manufactured with valuable stainless steel materials that allow coupling with burners working at variable heating power mode (both modulating and/or two-phase). It guarantees a safe, long-lasting functioning also at flue gas condensation conditions. This peculiar feature allows to monitor in a continuous and consistent way the equipment s heating capacity output. Moreover, operating economy is maximized thanks to the functioning mode at condensation conditions. The aforementioned characteristics make this equipment also suitable to fully treat outside air intake for air renovation purposes, whose temperature changes from time to time according to the season. The refined watertight cabinet is protuberance-free and its thermal well-insulated panels can be washed inside. These features perfectly allow to install the equipment outside with no additional protection needed, even under extreme climatic conditions reaching down to -45 C (provided it is fitted with a specific kit). All functions are managed in a fully automatic way by means of a complete electronic controller on the equipment s side that can be interfaced with a user-friendly remote control device or yet even more complex appliances. A wide choice of accessories (such as regulation dampers, customized power capacity, remote controls, kit for high static pressure, etc.) come in to complete the product. Product safety is certified by renowned and professional International Authorities. 22

This equipment s UNIQUE PECULIARITY depends on the fact that it has been specifically designed and proportioned to ALWAYS work at flue gas condensation conditions covering all of its heating capacity range (maximum and minimum values). This way, the product s outstanding thermal efficiency at maximum work output (reaching about 105%) combines with a very high average seasonal efficiency, thereby allowing a tangible energy saving, a significant reduction of management costs as well as a concrete decrease of noxious emissions. The innovative, patented airflow pathway inside the equipment alongside with a heat exchanger structure employing counter-current and crossed jets have contributed to making the WIMBLEDON series play a unique, winning role in the framework of such specific applications. Moreover, the valuable stainless steel materials employed guarantee a safe, long-lasting functioning also at flue gas total condensation conditions. This appliance has been specifically designed to draw in and transfer treated air downwards and on the same side, thereby easing the connection of air duct outlets and inlets. The equipment features a gravity-closing safety damper placed on the outside air inlet in order to avoid the structure s quick deflating in case of sudden blocks, as well as a regulation damper on the recirculation air inlet. All these elements combined can guarantee consistent, even pressure within the structure. In addition, the WIMBLEDON unit is equipped with two safety fire dampers that are placed on the air inlet and outlet points respectively. The product s peculiar characteristics are covered by international patent and its safety is certified by renowned and professional International Authorities. 42

57 VERY HIGH EFFICIENCY

Reversible high-performance heat pumps with R410A eco-friendly refrigerating gas The BESST and BESST/R REVERSIBLE HEAT PUMPS have been specifically designed to produce hot or cold water for heating and cooling purposes of home, commercial and industrial premises. Water heating is performed through the so-called mechanical compression technique of the refrigerating gas with air evaporation. The cooling phase is performed by reverse cycle. The BESST and BESST/R REVERSIBLE HEAT PUMPS project has been optimized thanks to heat pump working cycle and the equipment employs the R410A refrigerating gas, which is environment-friendly and in line with current world market developments. As a matter of fact, the new refrigerating gas guarantees heat transfer coefficients that are generally higher than with the R407A mixture, thereby reducing overall equipment dimensions. Moreover, this gas is particularly indicated for heat pumps performing demanding tasks. The carefully-planned external battery thanks to its peculiar circuiting and hydrophilic surface treatment contributes to both reducing and speeding up defrost cycles. Besides the traditional components, this machine is also equipped with a built-in inertial tank, expansion vessel and pump: such features enable the product to be installed without any additional accessories and/or elements. An advanced electronic control system fully manages all of the equipment s functions by means of immediate reading and integrated processing of the several temperature and pressure sensors installed. This system also features a self-adapting function to modify the working setpoint according to the actual immediate needs of end users. The BESST/R model differs from the BESST series because of the presence of a built-in supporting electric resistance that gets started in a fully automatic way whenever necessary. Moreover, this equipment can be interfaced with more complex installations that also feature a traditional boiler, the production of domestic water as well as the possibility to be connected with renewable energy systems. A wide range of accessories allow to specifically and precisely meet all possible installation needs. The product s peculiar characteristics are completed by low-level noise running that is guaranteed even under extreme environmental conditions, by high energy efficiency, as well as by safety standards approved by worldwide renowned, professional Certifiyng Authorities. SERIES NTPM MODULAR AIR HANDLING UNITS VARIABLY COMBINED UNITS CERTIFIED IN ACCORDANCE WITH: LOW TENSION DIRECTIVE 73/23/CEE MACHINE DIRECTIVE 89/392/CEE ELECTROMAGNETIC COMPATIBILITY DIRECTIVE 89/336/CEE The NTPM units size is extremely small, thereby allowing their installation even where little room is available - as it often happens in residential and commercial premises. The units basic version consists in a module + battery group (either at direct expansion functioning mode or working with water) combined with an electroventilator that can be pulled out downwards for inspection/inspecting purposes. Two versions available: horizontally oriented called NTPM/O; vertically oriented called NTPM/V. The units are made of Aluzink steel sheet and are coated with polyethylene and polyester sheets inside. All appliances are equipped with heat exchange battery made of copper pipes and aluminium fins, collectors featuring GAS screw thread for the water unit and SAE screw thread for the direct expansion unit. All batteries include a condensation basin made of AISI 304 stainless steel. The basic unit is equipped with three-speed centrifugal electro-ventilators whose fan wheels are balanced both statically and dynamically. Noise and vibrations have been reduced to the minimum according to the product s marketing applications. The basic unit can be equipped with filters, whose periodical cleaning is made easier thanks to a specific pull-out device. Connection to the electrical network is eased by a terminal strip on the equipment s side, where also the ventilator terminals are connected. The terminal strip is protected by a relay in all product versions (except for the 09 version, where such kind of controlling device is unnecessary due to its very low electrical absorption). Application of Tecnoclima products Also Ferrari choose direct exchange technology Tecnoclima technology for the world most famous reds Ferrari, a name famous throughout the world, synonym for state-of-the-art technology, performance and quality, has chosen Tecnoclima units for the air-conditioning system of their renowned Scaglietti plant in Modena, where bodywork for their most famous car models is produced. As part of a modernization and validation process of Ferrari properties, Paolo Burani, an engineer-surveyor in Modena, was given the task of designing the new air-conditioning system for the historic plant, which currently produces the bodywork for the brand new Ferrari 612, presented this year at the Detroit show. Ferrari plans involved the implementation of a new winter-summer air treatment system to create an extremely comfortable, all-year-round working environment for its staff. The initial project included the design of a classic system with central thermal unit, central refrigeration unit, electrical substation, hot and cold water distribution circuits and twenty-four air treatment units located outside the building, close to the perimeter walls, with diffusion of air into the environment by means of fabric ducts. High-efficiency system with low maintenance impact After a careful technical and economic evaluation, the designer, with full agreement of the customer, opted for a different solution, involving the use of twenty-four independent, fully integrated roof top air-treatment units offering high efficiency and low maintenance impact. Eighteen units are used to provide air-conditioning to the larger plant, where the aluminium bodywork for the 612 is produced, each with 200 kw refrigeration and 300 kw thermal capacity and airflow of 25,000 m 3.p.h.; the remaining six units, with airflow varying between 10,000 and 6,000 m 3.p.h. and 65 kw cooling-89 kw heating capacity, are required instead to provide air treatment in the plant destined to produce carbon bodywork for the Enzo. All the units are fully automatic, with both heating and cooling capacity differentiation. This new solution, chosen by the designer has a full three-year Tecnoclima guarantee, has allowed a two-thirds reduction in the initial investment necessary to produce the air conditioning system, increased system efficiency, reduced maintenance costs, resolved a number of technical problems and, above all, satisfied a series of very special and highly complex requirements. A 100% exterior air system: extremely difficult challenge The most important and most difficult requirement to satisfy was the fact that the system had to be based 100% on outside air due to the kind of processes performed inside the plant, explains Alfonso Vescovi, Tecnoclima managing director. The design for the larger plant involved the emission of 440,000 m 3.p.h of outside 111

air and maintaining the interior at a temperature of 27 C in summer, with external conditions of 32 C and 50% relative humidity, and an 18 C temperature in winter with -5 C and 80% r.h. outside. Obviously, to guarantee unit functioning at even the highest outside temperatures, we sized, produced and tested them under extreme utilisation limits of over 40 C, hence with a temperature range difficult to achieve and maintain in direct expansion systems. In addition, due to the positioning of the equipment with respect to the boundary walls, we were required to achieve maximum daytime noise limits of less than 70 db(a) at three metres and even lower nighttime levels. So to be able to satisfy these demanding acoustic requirements we had to implement a series of specially designed expedients for these units, including the adoption of special silencers on the batteries and anti-condensation fans, which in any event are equipped with regulators to reduce the number of revs, and consequently the sound level, when the compressors are not functioning at full capacity. Extremely compact and silent made-to-measure equipment For this prestigious plant, Tecnoclima was not therefore to provide their standard units, already renowned for many years for their technical quality, but custom built with particularly well planned technical, constructional and even visual characteristics. For both the larger and smaller plants, six roof top units were specially produced, particularly silent and compact, with extremely reduced lateral space requirements and an air path different from that of standard models. Furthermore, as all the equipment was installed against a wall, it was designed and constructed in such a way that access to internal parts for inspection and maintenance purposes is possible by operating on three sides only, excluding the rear. With regard to other constructional aspects, each unit includes a cooling section driven by ecological gas coolant, with independent cooling circuits, and special low-rev anti-condensation fans with modulating function and each independent from the next. The heating section uses patented heat exchangers in corrosionresistant stainless steel, with ultra-high yield combustion. The air treatment section, characterized by its high level yet low-resistance aeraulic performance, includes high-efficiency filters, an innovative antifreeze system, dual-circuit condensation batteries and transmission driven centrifugal fans. A fully automatic and centralized electronic multiprocessor controller supervises unit function, optimising performance and adapting this to the needs of the treated area. Limited investment and energy savings By choosing this system, Vescovi continues, apart from eliminating the need to construct the central thermal and refrigeration units and the hot and cold fluid distributors, therefore considerably reducing the initial investment, we were able to achieve a solid and significant operational economy since in our independent units there is no dispersion, no thermal inertia and equipment function is directly proportionate to the conditioning needs of the area. Moreover, as each piece of equipment has its own cooling, heating and aerial circuit and functions independently, the system proves decidedly more flexible and more reliable. So on balance, in both economic and energy terms, this system with independent roof top units proves greatly advantageous from all points of view. In other words, a big step forwards. And if Ferrari chose it...! 112
