StoreFront FALL 2017 Going for 10 Homes in 2017 Affordable homeownership is now a reality for many Atlanta families thanks to generous companies like The Home Depot, Delta Air Lines, Team Clark Howard and Cox Enterprises. Large and small corporations as well as faith and civic organizations partner with Atlanta Habitat to sponsor home builds, renovations and repair projects. Atlanta Habitat s vision is to see an Atlanta where all people have access to quality affordable housing in safe, vibrant neighborhoods with opportunities to thrive. Corporate house sponsorships help make this vision possible. Since the new Atlanta Habitat ReStore opened on Chester Avenue in late 2014, it has generated enough funds to fully sponsor the building of 25 Atlanta Habitat homes! Twenty-five Atlanta Habitat homeowners have now established stability for their families and are on their way to achieve more dreams thanks to ReStore shoppers, donors and volunteers. Pledge to volunteer with the ReStore team now through December to help us meet our 2017 goal of sponsoring 10 new Atlanta Habitat homes. We d love to meet you at our next Volunteer Orientation to tell you more about our programs. You ll also get a behind-thescenes tour while learning safety tips before your first shift. SPECIAL FEATURE Deck the Halls with Boughs of Hollywood On a sunny Tuesday in June 2017, the Atlanta Habitat ReStore closed for business while filmmakers turned the home improvement storefront into a wintery holiday-style grocery store. The ReStore was unrecognizable as real snow lined the hot sidewalks, dozens of Christmas trees filled the parking lot, groceries replaced showroom furniture and Hollywood actresses arrived. The one-day shoot was for A Bad Mom s Christmas, starring Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell, Kathryn Hahn and Susan Sarandon. The ReStore s appearance changes every day with all the new inventory we receive, says Megan DeCantillon, ReStore Logistics Coordinator, but I never guessed that would include being transformed into a movie set! Check out the movie when it comes to theaters November 3 and let us know if you can spot the snowy ReStore. Share your findings with us on Twitter at @atlantarestore. 3

PROGRAM SPOTLIGHT Success Comes in Aluminum Cans The value of three million recycled aluminum cans was enough to fund the entire construction of an Atlanta Habitat home for a family on the Westside this summer. In partnership with the Atlanta Falcons, The Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation, Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the Georgia Dome and Atlanta Habitat for Humanity Novelis innovative campaign, Recycle for Good, launched in September 2016. Falcons fans, ReStore shoppers, residents and visitors were encouraged to recycle their aluminum cans at Recycle for Good collection centers at The Georgia Dome, Hartsfield-Jackson airport and across the city. Novelis recycled the collected cans and converted the aluminum value into funds for Shawn M. and her two daughters new home. After hundreds of hours of sweat equity, volunteering on other builds and attending several Atlanta Habitat Home Smart classes, Shawn and her family were able to purchase a home of their own. It s important to me because I want my children to have a home and show them how to work hard for something, Rashawn says. The house was special to Atlanta Habitat because it was the first home the organization has built in Atlanta s historic Westside community in nearly 10 years. SPECIAL FEATURE A 360-Degree View I have lived in Atlanta my entire life, but this internship has shown me parts of Atlanta I ve never seen. There are hidden mansions with large fountains and pillars. We also got the opportunity to pick up donated windows from a Braves player s house, says Martyo Bethea, recalling his summer internship at the Atlanta Habitat ReStore. I ll never forget moving appliances on the 26th floor of a renovated loft in Midtown. The city views were amazing. Quality internship experiences can provide skills and knowledge outside the classroom, and these students wanted to enhance their customer service skills while supporting a good cause. As part of the internship, Martyo and fellow classmate Kyree Thomas worked with the Donations team for 12 weeks before heading off to college. They helped truck drivers pick up furniture, appliances, building materials and other large donations around Atlanta. I thought this would be easy, Kyree explained, but it s been a consistent workout all summer long. I love it! The Donations team keep us laughing Antonio, Donald, Kevin and Damien are so fun to be around. Interns and volunteers who assist with donations are crucial to the ReStore s daily operations. DONATION SPOTLIGHT A large donation of 50+ new oriental rugs helped the Atlanta Habitat ReStore achieve tremendous success this fall. Giving isn t a business transaction, it s a human connection, says Andrea Moattar, Owner of Moattar, Ltd. Finer Rugs, Atlanta Habitat for Humanity inspires us to be part of such a wonderful organization by being a part of their homebuilding mission. Moattar donates to the Atlanta Habitat ReStore each year when they have excess inventory. If your business is interested in donating overstock items while enjoying the tax benefit for contributing to a qualified 501(c)(3) organization, contact our Donations Manager at 404-465-1059. Another Way to Give Giving to Atlanta Habitat does not stop at the ReStore. Your financial donations can also power our mission to help families realize the dreams of homeownership and empower them to reach for other goals including further their education to entrepreneurship. This year, Atlanta Habitat is close to impacting nearly 100 families through new homeownership, critical home repairs, scholarships and more. Your gift at any level is empowering our homeowners and Atlanta s neighborhoods. To give and to learn more about our Atlanta Habitat families, visit www.atlantahabitat.org and click the donate button. 6
