STIP-toc and PHOENIX-thermcat MANUAL SUPPLEMENT 1 Additional Safety Regulations The following safety instruction concerns to the opening of the stripping chamber as described in manual chapter 7.6 and 7.7. CAUTION Opening the stripping chamber, you must hold tight the lid of the stripping chamber while unscrewing the sleeve nut! MANUAL SUPPLEMENT STIP-toc and PHOENIX-thermcat Sample supply Instead of the conventional plumbing the sample supply consists of a 3-way-valve. The valve enables the emptying of the instrument, the feeding of an external test solution and also waste water sampling from the analyzer. The valve and the fittings are dead volume free so that the danger of deposits is precluded. Fig. 3-1: sample supply Combustion furnace The combustion furnace with the protection shield is replaced by a new oven. The improved isolation of the furnace and the special surface coating results in a low surface temperature and a strongly reduced heat transfer into the cabinet. Having the new furnace an additional protection shield is no longer necessary. For servicing the furnace is swivel-mounted. For this, please loosen the tubes of the sample injection port and outlet of the combustion gas. A further modification concerns the sample injection: The glass capillary was replaced by a high-quality stainless steel capillary. Fig. 3-2: combustion furnace Fig. 3-3: sample injection Peltier cooler / Peltier cooler controller On the rear side of the analyzer a new Peltier cooler with a corresponding controller is used. The Peltier cooler has a higher cooling capacity and an improved heat dissipation. The actual heat sink is a noncorroding glass "jet-stream" heat exchanger working by the parallel-flow principle. The default setting of the regulating temperature (dew point of the cooled down gas) is 5 C. The required temperature can be increased according to the user manual of the Peltier cooler / controller. page 2 Endress+Hauser

No special maintenance is required for neither the Peltier cooler nor the Peltier controller. heat sink Peltier cooler Peltier controller Fig. 3-4: Peltier cooler & controller Siphon trap Because of the special gas inside the new Peltier cooler a special 3-chamber siphon trap is used to remove the condensed water. Analogous to the previous siphon the new version empties itself automatically. No additional maintenance is necessary. Fig. 3-5: siphon trap Endress+Hauser page 3
MANUAL SUPPLEMENT STIP-toc and PHOENIX-thermcat Acid filter The new STIP-toc version is equipped with a bigger acid filter being the second step of combustion gas purification. The acid filter is mounted in such a way that it can be easily removed for servicing. At the gas outlet the acid filter is equipped with a special combined filter that retains effectively droplets and dust particles. In principle, the combined filter can be flushed back using compressed air or acidified distilled water. For both backflushing and installing the filter please do pay attention to the direction of the gas flow. The gas inlet is marked on the filter body by the label "IN". MANUAL SUPPLEMENT STIP-toc and PHOENIX-thermcat 3.2 Chapter 7 ("Cleaning and maintenance") There are changes in maintenance of the filter (chapter 7.11): Life span of the filter is specified with 3 months at minimum. A regular exchange is not required. Criterion for exchange is the volume of carrier gas < 1 L/min. No cleaning procedure recommended. The filter, when blocked, needs to be replaced. There are NO CHANGES in maintenance of the Peltier cooler (chapter 7.12). (Some drawings in the current user manual may be different from this supplementation. But this has no effect on the maintenance.) There is one change with replacing the tube of pump P1 (see chapter 7.2.6): Instead of turning the taps 1 and 2 on to empty the strip chamber, twist now the 3-wayvalve for 90 clockwise! page 8 Endress+Hauser
