Provence Safety and Maintenance IMPORTANT It is vital that the information in this leaflet, the user instructions and the appliance labels are carefully read and adhered to. The Provence is a flueless, gas appliance and if not operating or functioning correctly can cause serious injury, damage to your home or even death to you, family members or friends.

LEAK TESTING You must leak test the unit before first use, every time the gas cylinder is changed and at the beginning of every heating season. To perform a leak test. 1. Mix 50% water 50% soap solution. 2. Attach the regulator to the gas cylinder. (Note: the regulator must be in the off position when its connected to the cylinder) 3. Apply the soap solution to all areas of the regulator to gas cylinder connection, regulator to hose connection, hose to appliance connection, base of valve. 4. If bubbles appear to blow there is a leak. Contact the Customer Service Helpline +353 (01) 2873797 5. Turn the regulator to the on position, repeat step 3, if bubbles appear to blow there is a leak. CORRECT BURNING Always check that the heater is burning cleanly. The flames should be primarily blue with a yellow tip and should rise just above the coals when on high setting. See image 1 A build up of dust, debris or any other foreign matter in or around the burner or air inlets will affect safe use of the appliance and cause sooting which could damage your home. The first and most recognisable sign of this is a large yellow flame rising higher above the coals than normal. See image 2. If you notice this stop using the appliance immediately and clean away any foreign particles see instructions on the following page.this can be done by you, however we recommend it is done by a qualified gas technician. image 1 Correct Burning image 2 incorrect Burning

Cleaning your Provence heater 1) Remove the front casting by unscrewing the 4 wing nuts located inside the cylinder chamber and lifting the front casting away. 2) Check that the burners primary air inlet is not blocked or obstructed. If it is, remove particles Primary air inlet Image of Burner Mesh and Primary inlet

3) Using a soft brush, clean the top of the burner mesh.then using a vacuum, remove any dust/debris from the burner mesh. Soft brush on top of burner mesh 4) Finally, using pressurised air - blow out the burner. First through the primary air inlet and then through the top burner mesh. Vacuum cleaner on top of burner mesh Pressurised air through air inlet Pressurised air on top of burner mesh 5) Clean all other parts of the heater with a damp non abrasive cloth.

Servicing Procedure To be performed by a qualified gas technician 1) Perform full clean as detailed on page 4 2) Perform leak test on control valve and all gas joints from regulator to main burner and ODS. 3) Ignite unit and ensure flame picture is correct, see below A flame picture as shown on image 2 on page 2 indicates incomplete combustion. Repeat cleaning of the main burner and primary air inlet. Check regulator pressure to ensure correct pressure is being supplied 28-30mbar. 4) Ensure heater is being used in a room no smaller that 64metres cubed and with free ventilation directly from the outside into the room of 80cm squared.

IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE Do not attempt to operate the heater until you have read and understood the user instruction manual and this safety notice. Failure to do so could result in serious property damage, personal injury or death The heater is only suitable for use with BUTANE GAS at 28mb operating pressure and must not be connected to any other type of gas supply. DO NOT allow combustible materials to be placed directly on to, or be stored close to heater, and do not leave unattended when in use The recommended minimum room size to use this heater in is 64 metres cubed and must have a free ventilation directly from outside into the room of 80 cm squared. The heater must NOT BE USED in a bedroom, bathroom, shower area, garage or in any other room or space which does not have either an openable window, or permanent ventilation of 80 cm squared DO NOT use heater in an open plan type building or dwelling where there is no separation between the main living area and bedrooms Always check that the heater is burning cleanly. A build up of dust, debris or any other foreign matter in or around the burner will effect the safe use of the appliance. Should you become aware of a smell, signs of discolouration or sooting. TURN OFF IMMEDIATELY and have the heater examined and serviced by a qualified gas technician. Should you become aware of a stuffy atmosphere or a lack of fresh air in the room do check the room size is suitable and that there is adequate ventilation. The heater is fitted with an oxygen depletion sensing device which is designed to turn off the heater if the oxygen level in the room drops below a safe level. If the heater turns off automatically it is very important to check that there is proper ventilation and that the heater is burning clean and has not become contaminated with dust or debris or some other foreign matter. It is recommended to have the heater examined and serviced by a qualified gas technician before the start of the heating season Your local gas supplier can be of help in this regard or you can call the Calor helpline UK (0800662663) Ireland (01 4505000) to get details of service agents in your area. When the heater is used for the first time you will notice a smell, this is normal because the appliance is new. Operate in a very well ventilated area for about two hours after which the smell should disappear. If the smell persists do contact our helpline. If the heater is used in an environment which is frequented by children or infirmed people it must always be protected with a guard. If you have any queries or questions please don t hesitate to contact Universal Innovations Ltd on our helpline. Tel: 00353 1 2873797
