CHANDIGARH - THE CITY BEAUTIFUL Chandigarh is the best-planned city in India, with architecture which is world-renowned, and a quality of life, which is unparalleled. As the capital of the states of Punjab and Haryana, and the Union Territory of Chandigarh it is a prestigious city. The face of modern India, Chandigarh, is the manifestation of a dream that Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru envisaged and Le Corbusier executed. Serenity and a city are two diametrically opposite concepts, which however, get belied in the 'City Beautiful'. Chandigarh is a rare epitome of modernization coexisting with nature's preservation. It is here that the trees and plants are as much a part of the construction plans as the buildings and the roads. India s first planned city, is a rich, prosperous, spic and span, green city rightly called THE CITY BEAUTIFUL. The area experiences four seasons: (i) Summer or hot season (mid-march to Mid-June) (ii) Rainy season (late-june to mid-september); (iii) Post monsoon autumn/transition season (mid-september to mid-november); (iv) Winter (mid-november to mid-march). The dry spell of summer is long but with the occasional drizzles or thunder storms. May and June are the hottest months of the year with the mean daily maximum & minimum temperatures being about 37 C & 25 C, respectively. Maximum temperatures can rise up to 44 C. Southwest monsoons with high intensity showers commence in late June. The weather at this time is hot and humid. The quality of accommodation in Chandigarh is of world-class standards and drenched with traditional warm Punjabi hospitality. Accommodation in Chandigarh comes in all budgets; from basic accommodation facilities to five star hotels-the visitor can pick and choose to his or hers' heart content. Number of hotels, lodges and guest houses are available for visitors nearby to our ISTC institute which provide the budget accommodation in Chandigarh. Chandigarh is well linked to all urban centers in the region by road, rail and air. It is well served by an excellent network of roads. National Highway 21 and all the major road arteries link Chandigarh with the rest of India. By Air - Reaching Chandigarh by air is the easiest and fastest mode. The airport is located at a distance of hardly 11 km from the CSIO, Sector-30 and is easily accessible. It is served by all the major domestic airlines, like Indian Airlines and Jet Airways, which fly to major cities of the country, like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, etc. International travelers may take the flight to Delhi or Amritsar and then take a connecting flight or travel via road or rail to Chandigarh. By Rail - An extensive rail network links Chandigarh to different corners of the country. The railways station is only 9 km from the CSIO, Sector-30. Important trains like Shatabdi Express and the Himalayan Queen run on a daily basis and link the city with Delhi. Daily trains are also available from Chandigarh to Lucknow. There are also trains connecting the city to other parts of the country, like Kolkata, Chennai, and Mumbai. In some cases, there are no direct trains and one may have to take interconnecting trains. By Road - Chandigarh is widely linked to other parts of the country, through a good road network. NH-21 and NH-22 forms the main two national highways of the city. There are the state-owned buses that connect different places in Punjab and Haryana to Chandigarh. Deluxe, semi-deluxe and Volvo buses run from Chandigarh to Shimla, Manali, Delhi and Dehradun. Regular bus service operates from Chandigarh to various cities in Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Rajasthan as well. The public bus services are managed by
