Area of applicaion Hea dissipaion / Air condiioning Wheher for dissipaing hea from server rooms or o discharge process hea in general, he unis in he Free Line series can be perfecly adaped o a range of differen areas of applicaion and can incorporae he following funcions: enilaion ixing Cooling (free & mechanical cooling) Heaing (opional) Humidificaion (opional) Proecing your invesmens The energy-saving, and herefore cos-saving principle on which he uni operaes is no he only argumen in favor of a HANSA Free Line hea dissipaion uni. s reliabiliy and fail-safe operaion are jus as imporan. HANSA hea dissipaion unis are durable, high qualiy producs. Where absolue fail-safe operaion is required, DDC which comes as sandard makes i possible for you o implemen various redundan sysems. Operaing coss a balance Benefi of he Free Line concep in he area of hea dissipaion: n a ypical siuaion, 8 % of he operaing ime can be covered by free cooling (cooling using ouside air), which means ha only he conrol elecronics and wo energy-saving fans are operaing, while he larges consumer he cooling compressor remains swiched off. Example: The hea dissipaion capaciy required for a server room is 3 kw (12,364 BTU/h), insallaion locaion: Frankfur am ain. Purely using a recirculaing air cooler, his would require he usage of around 82 kwh of elecrical energy each year. Wih an elecriciy price of Euro.2 ($.23 US) per kwh, his comes o a cos of Euro 16, ($18,655 US) per year. To achieve he same climae conrol ask, our Free Line uni consumes around 2 kwh per year, parially using free cooling. A Euro.2 ($.23 US) per kwh his coss Euro 4, ($4,663 US). Properies Funcion Hea dissipaion unis from he Free Line range have a mechanical cooling uni, an opional humidifier for he supply air, a DDC wih conrol panel, and double dampers for reurn and ouside air, in order o implemen he differen operaing modes wihin a single compac uni. The filer pressures and flow raes are deeced mechanically. n addiion, analog emperaure and humidiy sensors for he supply, reurn and ouside air are insalled in order o implemen he opimum conrol sraegy. An opional ho waer coil can be inegraed and he corresponding error message signals fed ino he DDC. Energy saving poenial Operaing condiions in he hx diagram The figure on he righ side shows he disribuion of he operaing modes and he proporion in hours per year in he hx diagram. The ouside air condiions are based on a weaher daa hisogram from Frankfur am ain. Free cooling can be used in Zone 1. The desired supply air emperaure can be achieved a any ime by adding reurn air, wihou he need for re-humidificaion or dehumidificaion, or operaing he mechanical cooling sysem. These are he mos economical operaing condiions, wih an annual proporion of 4.7 % (3 57 hrs). Zone 2 shows 3 459 annual operaing hours, an annual proporion of 39.5 %. This allows for significan energy savings, because cooling can be achieved using ouside air, i.e. wihou he use of mechanical cooling. The cooler ouside air is mixed wih enough reurn air o achieve he permied supply air emperaure. The exhaus air is reduced in he same raio, r.p.m of he fan is reduced meaning ha i consumes less energy. Depending on he humidiy in he ouside air, i may be necessary in his case o re-humidify he air slighly. n Zone 3, i is necessary o bring he emperaure of he ouside air, which exceeds he permied supply air emperaure, down o he permissible level by hermal reamen (1s sage of mechanical cooling). The level of he ouside air emperaure is below ha of he reurn air, meaning ha removing a limied amoun of hea from he ouside air is more economical han recirculaed air mode under a full cooling load. A special feaure is Zone 3.1 in he lef par of he hx diagram. Depending on he humidiy in he ouside air, i may be necessary in his case o re-humidify he air slighly. Zone 4 makes no requiremens in erms of humidiy, however a larger cooling capaciy is required here. The 2nd sage of mechanical cooling mus be swiched on in order o achieve he desired supply air emperaure. Ouside air condiions in Zone 5 have a higher energy conen han he reurn air. herefore makes sense here o avoid ouside air mode and saisfy he required climaic condiions using recirculaed air mode. n Zone 5.1, on he righ, he air would have o be dehumidified significanly for ouside air operaion, in order o achieve he permied room emperaure. This would require a high cooling capaciy and correspondingly large cooling unis (all unis would have o roughly double in performance, which would also double he elecrical connecion value). Finally, he volume of air would also have o double, so ha he cooling capaciy could be ranspored. n Zone 5.2, a he op, he ouside air emperaure is higher han ha of he room air, making i more economical o feed he lower-emperaure reurn air back ino he room afer i undergoes he necessary hermal reamen, and no using ouside air mode. Also in his case, ouside air mode would subsanially increase he capaciy required from he coolers and, as can be seen from he hx diagram, his would be used for jus a few operaing hours each year. n Zone 5.3, a high humidificaion capaciy would be required for ouside air mode, in order o achieve he permied emperaure values. This would resul in a subsanial (roughly four-fold) increase in he elecrical connecion value. The humidificaion disance would have o be enlarged during he air condiioner's design phase. The narrow Zone 6 shows he operaing hours wih low humidificaion requiremens. This low requiremen goes back o opimizing he mode of operaion of all equipmen, which is used o achieve he desired room emperaure. Recirculaing air mode uses dry cooling hroughou is operaion, meaning ha no dehumidificaion is required, and he humidiy saus of he room remains consan. The humidifier has a low elecrical connecion value. Regardless of he magniude of he connecion, i does no have o be considered when deermining he oal connecion value, because is operaion will never coincide wih ha of he 2nd cooling sage. f a minimum fresh air rae is required, his condiion can also be me a any ime. The dampers posiioned on he sucion side, which are conrolled independenly 6

of each oher, allow for any ype of working condiion aand can be adjused, conrolled and opimized for all requiremens in any air direcion and flow rae.
