Aims & Research Questions

Research Questions Reflecting on the introduced challenges and the Biestebroek context How can we design socio-spatial infrastructures considering architecture as a process? How can we envision the future of a spatial intervention incorporating incrementalism and self-organization? How can we incorporate local initiatives and principles of circular economy into this process? The Open Method

Theoretical Background Literature relevant to research questions; reviewing super-diversity (Steven Vertovec), Collective Spaces (Ignasi de Solà-Morales) Intermediate Spaces (Bijlsma and Groenland ), Urban Commons (Tine de moor), Self-organization, Bottom-up Practices, Occupy Urbanism Recognition + Representation Recognition will cover a triangulation of 1) Structured Individual Observations (diary, sketches, objects) 2) Data (Cases, Maps, Statistics) Relevant NGOs Local Organizations Municipality 3) Interviews with key actors and participatory initiatives Exploratory representations will enable novel ways of seeing (different than routine presentations). Redistribution (design) In line with the sections 1,2 and 3: Design Strategies for Redistribution Macro Level: Design Strategies, translation of these into spatial configurations Meso Level: Demonstration of the implications of these at the urban and architectural space Micro Level: Sample details, in close connection to the feedback of the building technologies teachers
