EXTINGUISHING 1. DESCRIPTION The airplane is equipped with a liquefied-gas type fire extinguisher mounted within a quick-release bracket assembly. The extinguishing agent is Halon 1211/101 blend and is approved for use on class B (liquid, grease) and class C (electrical equipment) fires. The fire extinguisher must be replaced after each use. Serials 0002 thru 101, 10 thru 1820, 1822 thru 189, 181 thru 182: The fire extinguisher is mounted to the LH aft console trim panel adjacent to the pilot s seat base. Serials 102, 1821, 180, 18 & subs: The fire extinguisher is mounted to the LH sidewall air duct trim panel just forward of the pilot s drink holder. Page 1 1 Apr 200
2. MAINTENANCE PRACTICES A. Fire Extinguisher (See Figure 1) (1) Removal - Fire Extinguisher (a) Release quick-release clamp. (b) Remove fire extinguisher from bracket assembly. (2) Installation - Fire Extinguisher (a) Position fire extinguisher to bracket assembly. (b) Secure with quick-release clamp. () Operation - Fire Extinguisher (a) Point fire extinguisher nozzle directly at target. (b) Pull ring to remove safety pin. (c) Depress discharge lever. (d) Direct discharge at base of flame with side to side motion (range for a fully charged extinguisher is to 8 feet (1.8 to 2. meters) with a duration of 10 to 12 seconds. () Inspection/Check - Fire Extinguisher (a) Acquire necessary tools, equipment, and supplies. Description P/N or Spec. Supplier Purpose Scale - Any Source Weighing. (b) (c) (d) Visually inspect fire extinguisher for signs of leakage, corrosion, or other damage. At annual inspection, weigh fire extinguisher. 1 Serials 0002 thru 0820: Ensure gross weight is above 2.2 oz. (8 g). If extinguisher weighs less than specified, replace immediately. 2 Serials 0821 & subs: Ensure gross weight is above 1. oz. (00 g). If extinguisher weighs less than specified, replace immediately. Once a month (or more frequently when circumstances require), perform the following: 1 Serials 0002 thru 0820: Weigh or heft fire extinguisher to ensure gross weight is above 2.2 oz. (8 g). 2 Serials 0821 & subs: Weigh or heft fire extinguisher to ensure gross weight is above 1. oz. (00 g). Ensure nozzle is unobstructed and safety seal is intact. Page 2 1 Apr 200
B. Bracket Assembly (See Figure 1) (1) Removal - Bracket Assembly (a) Remove fire extinguisher. (Refer to ) (b) Serials 0002 thru 022, 1191 & subs: Remove screws securing bracket assembly to trim. (c) Serials 0228 thru 1190: Remove aft console lower trim. (Refer to 2-10) (d) Serials 0228 thru 1190: Remove screws, washers, and nuts securing bracket assembly to trim. (2) Installation - Bracket Assembly (a) Serials 0002 thru 022, 1191 & subs: Position bracket assembly to trim and secure with screws. (b) Serials 0228 thru 1190: Position bracket assembly to trim and secure with screws, washers, and nuts. (c) Serials 0228 thru 1190: Install aft console lower trim.
