Through a landscape of fantastic mountains to the Tizi-n-Tichka pass (2260 m), from where you have a breathtaking view of the massifs and peaks of the High Atlas. Shortly after the pass, you fork and go on the slopes to the Kasbah of Telouet, also called Kasbah Dar Glaoui. It is situated on a promontory, overlooking the valley of Imarene. Drive to the Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou, who often served as Hollywood s famous movie set. 4. Day Ouarzazate Zagora M Hamid Continue on the trail through the Drâa valley in an enchanting landscape of palm trees and oases, from countless villages and Kasbahs, to Zagora. On the outskirts of Zagora, there is an old sign that says 52 days to Timbuktu with a caravan of camels. You go to your tent camp in the desert at M Hamid. 5. Day M Hamid Nekob Alnif - Merzouga After a delicious Berber breakfast, drive through the Drâa Valley, and again via Nekob and Alnif to Merzouga. This beautiful road through the Hamada, punctuated by oasis gardens, was once a well-known road for camel caravans. Towards Merzouga, even more impressive by the sand dunes, sometimes up to 100 m high. Here you stay in a Kasbah, a hotel right next to the dunes. Day Desert 1 day Today we drive in the desert. Again and again, the view opens into its hidden oases, ancient villages where one can visit traditional musicians. The Gnaouas with their ancient African music make you feel as if it were in the days of Charles de Foucauld. Visit various old Kasbahs, a former mine of the colonial period and a fossil quarry. Then go on Dayet Sri, a flat lake populated by pink flamingos. Spend a wonderful day in the desert! 7. Day Erfoud Tinghir - Boumalne du Dades Depart through a desert plateau with small sand dunes and oasis until Tinghir then continue towards the Gorges of Todra. The walls of this almost vertical rocky canyon reach up to 300 m high and not more than 10 m wide at the narrowest point. Continue to Boumalne and the Dades gorges, with its strange rock formations of extraordinary beauty and deeply incised canyons is reminiscent of the panoramic landscape in southwestern America. 8. Day Boumalne du Dades Ouarzazate - Taroudant Continue west to Ouarzazate crossing several mountain passes, with a breathtaking view of the Anti-Atlas and the plain of Souss. Visit of an Agadir, an ancient Berber granary which is located mainly in the Anti Atlas. Continuation towards Taroudant. 9. Day Taroudant Tizi-n-Test - Marrakesh Today you drive on the Tizi-n-Test pass for Marrakesh. This route through the High Atlas completely off the beaten track is partially adventurous but scenically unique. 10.
