2-HECTARE SITE CONTEXT Forest Crop Land Baseball Field Dept. of Correction The two-hectare site is located on the south-west side of the Massachusett's Departent of Correction building cluster (Mediu security level). The north side of is a forest and a crop land owned by the Dept. of Correction, and the south side of is a forest and an industrial zone with two wetlands on either sid The wetland conservation area connects the two wetlands, possibly providing a corridor for wildlif It is iportant to note that in y two-hectare site, ecologically sensitive features, g. wetland, are iediately adjacent to a ajor highway and an industrial area. What is now zoned as an industrial land, however, has been a forest before 1999. It is very likely that this land was developed recently for industrial use, and therefore the zoning has changed. 3 MA Dept. of Environental Protection Crop Land Forest Participation Recreation Industrial Urban Public Conservation Existing Dirt Road Massachusetts Dept. of Correction
TERRAIN AND WATERFLOW 51 48 In this ap, terrain descends generally towards south and south-west direction. Due to the slope change, the waterflow coing down fro the north-west northeast corners slows down within the twohectare site, and slows down even ore as the water leaves the site towards the south. Unfortunately, there are three wetlands adjacent to 2--it is very possible that the water that ends up in one of the three wetlands are containated, especially after crossing the 2. Two wetlands on the left are wooded swap deciduous wetlands and the one on the right is a shallow arsh eadow. The two-hectare site falls within a larger sub-basin area. This sub-basin does not contribute to a public surface water supply. 3 45 MA Dept. of Environental Protection Sub-basin Boundary Contour (3) Tree Mass Title 5 Buffer Zone Massachusetts Dept. of Correction
SOIL AND VEGETATION 3 45 48 51 The two-hectare site has three soil types: Deerfield Loay Sand, Wareha Loay Sand, and Hinckley Loay Sand. Most of the two-hectare is coprised of Deerfiled Loay Sand and it is where ost tree asses and Route 2 are located. The wetland area indicates to have Wareha Loay Sand. As the slope gets ore flattened, the soil changes to Hinckley Loay Sand. All three soil types are found between 48 and 51 elevation. According to the U.S. National Cooperative Soil Survey, the Deerfield series consists of very deep, oderately well drained soils. The Wareha series consitsts of very deep, poorly and soewhat poorly drained sandy soils froed in outwash. Here, runoff is negligible or very low. The Hinckley series consists of very deep, excessively drained soils. In Massachusetts, Hinckley soils are used for truck crops (http://soils.usda.gov). PRIMARY LAND USE 51 The 2 hectare site is generally considered for single-faily residential uses, although MASS GIS indicates that this assignent was a subjective procedure and should be verified with an exaination of bylaw tables of peritted uses. Approxiately 1/3 of the 2 hectare is for singe faily residential, greater than or equal to 8, sq. ft. and the 2/3 is for the sae use but between 4, and 79,999 sq. ft. 48 45 3 MA Dept. of Environental Protection Single Faily Residential, >= 8, sq. ft.
