T640A,B Remote Bulb Temperature Controller The T640A,B Remote Bulb Temperature Controller is used as a unit mount temperature controller in electric heat, fan coil, room air conditioner applications, cold storage, refrigeration, heat pumps, heaters and other applications where low differentials and accurate sensing are required. Ambient compensation is not provided, so the thermostat must be located at normal ambient temperature, away from the sensing element. The device is used to control line voltage circuits. The T640 is an operating temperature control and not a limit control. In applications where high property value and/or occupant safety is important, a separate backup safety or limit control must be used. T640 Remote Bulb Temperature Controllers are unit mount thermostats, available as one-stage (T640A) and two-stage (T640B) models. Silver cadmium oxide switch contacts. Ambient temperature range of -40 F to +76 F (-40 C to +80 C), with maximum safe temperature exposure of F (00 C). Relative humidity rating of 5 to 95%, noncondensing. UL and CSA component approved. Fixed differential. Pilot duty electrical load rating of watts, with full load amperage (FLA) of 6A at 30 and 77 Vac and locked rotor amperage (LRA) of 60A at 30 and 77 Vac. Black knob and scale plate are optional. CONTENTS Specifications... Ordering Information... Installation... 3 Wiring... 4 Operation And Checkout... 5 G.R. -95 Honeywell Inc. 995 63-49

SEE TABLE FOR CAPILLARY LENGHT. M8844 Installation WHEN INSTALLING THIS PRODUCT. Read these instructions carefully. Failure to follow them could damage the product or cause a hazardous condition.. Check the ratings given in the instructions and on the product to make sure the product is suitable for your application. 3. Installer must be a trained, experienced service technician. 4. After installation is complete, check out product operation as provided in these instructions. CAUTION Disconnect power supply before beginning installation to prevent electrical shock or equipment damage. MOUNTING SENSING ELEMENTS Mount the remote bulb in the airflow or water supply where air or water of average temperature circulates around it. The bulb can be strapped to a water pipe using a05900 T-Clamp (see Fig. ) or as follows: Fig. Bulb strapped to water pipe with 05900 T-Clamp. T-CLAMP BULB CAPILLARY TUBING LOCATION AND MOUNTING T640 Thermostats mount either vertically or horizontally in equipment in an electrical control compartment. The remote bulb can be mounted as far from the controller as capillary tubing allows. SUPPLY WATER PIPE M8836 3 63-49

APPROX. 3 FT (0.9 M) CAPILLARY TUBE BULB STRAPPED TO PIPE CAUTION DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN CLAMPS TO AVOID SENSOR BULB DISTORTION. OVERTIGHTENING CLAMPS MAY CAUSE A SIGNIFICANT SHIFT IN CALIBRATION. T640 BULB PIPE DUCT HANGER WIRE OR METAL HOSE CLAMPS. Secure remote bulb to pipe with duct hanger wire or metal hose clamps (Fig. 3).. Cover the bulb and pipe with foam rubber insulation extending at least six inches (5 mm) beyond both ends of the bulb (Fig. 3). 3. Secure foam rubber with duct tape. DO NOT ALLOW DUCT TAPE TO CONTACT PIPE. MOUNTING THERMOSTAT. Use the dimensions in Fig. to locate and drill holes in the cabinet or panel for the setpoint shaft and four mounting screws.. Fasten the case to the cabinet or panel through the mounting holes in the panel using the supplied screws. 3. Run the tubing to the sensing location by the shortest practical route. Do not sharply bend the tubing because flow can be restricted. Leave excess tubing coiled near the thermostat. 4. Make wiring connections according to the instructions in the Wiring section. 5. Replace the faceplate and tighten the mounting screw. FOAM TAPED OVER STRAPPED BULB (OPTIONAL) CAPILLARY TUBE FOAM RUBBER WRAP (EXTENDS 6 in.
