Care and cleaning instructions So that your INFLOOR carpet remains beautiful for a long time Our partner in cleaning questions: Status March 2014 INFLOOR GmbH & Co. KG oor Teppichboden GmbH & Co. KG www.infloor.de

Its down to correct care and cleaning from the start The special quality of a genuine INFLOOR carpet is the best pre-requisite for long durability and beautiful appearance. However: even a INFLOOR requires regular care and correct cleaning, so that it looks new for as long as possible. The choice of the correct care and cleaning methods is paramount for this. Selection of the care and cleaning process is directly linked to the composition of the material, the structure of the carpet, the back of the carpet and even the way in which it is laid. In any case, employ a specialist business to carry out basic/intensive cleaning as well as interim/surface cleaning of your INFLOOR carpet. This is the only way to guarantee that the cleaning method used is appropriate to the quality, the way the carpet is laid and the base, and that your INFLOOR carpet is not damaged by cleaning. For cleaning your carpet, INFLOOR recommends the company Paul Geißler GmbH, head office of the specialist society of German carpet cleaners (Fachgemeinschaft Deutscher Teppichbodenreiniger FDT). Please be so kind to ob serve the information at the end of these care and cleaning instructions (page 14). General These care and cleaning instructions are based on over 30 years of experience of Paul Geißler GmbH (FDT), the discoveries of the German carpet research institute and our own experience. They are factually in agreement with the guide lines of the fact sheet by the AWT/FDT work group giving precise details of RAL 991/A3, which describes the work stages of the individual cleaning processes in detail. This fact sheet can be ordered from us, for a small nominal charge. 2

Damage to the carpet or unsatisfactory cleaning results arising in conjunction with cleaning or stain removal that has been carried out incorrectly does not represent a defect in the goods and we are therefore unable to acknowledge it as a complaint. This also applies in particular, if the care and cleaning interval specified by us is not observed. Correct and professional cleaning, carried out frequently with suitable media and equipment, will not damage your carpet, although cleaning too late or incorrectly will. The enclosed table the INFLOOR care and cleaning express shows the correct methods for care and cleaning. Important for all carpets Shag faults with velours When cleaning with a damp medium, the effects of mechanical systems may cause shag faults. As such, must be parallelised in the direction of the grain/ production whilst still damp. Drying times After each cleaning, complete drying of the floor must be guaranteed before the carpet is allowed to be used again. Clean walkway zones From the start, a carpet must be protected from dirt, by the establishment of sufficiently large clean zones in the entrance areas and problem zones (e.g. from hard floor to carpet or from production to administration areas etc). These zones must be designed such that both coarse and fine dirt are kept away from the carpet. Daily cleaning of the clean walkway zone is essential in order to prevent the area itself from becoming a source of dirt, like the effect of an ink pad. This ink pad effect can also occur e.g. if products containing wax are not used correctly in the maintenance of hard surfaces. 3

Cleaning interval The interval for intermediate cleaning and basic cleaning, is naturally dependent on the type of carpet and the frequency with which it is walked upon. The structure and colour of the carpet also play an important role. The lighter the colour, the more visible the dirt. The size and design of the clean walkway zone also plays a very significant role. As a basic rule, however, basic cleaning of the carpet should be carried out around once per year in the object area. For flat weaves, light colours, or areas subject to heavy dirt (e.g. entrance areas), this interval may also be considerably shorter. Building completion cleaning/building handover Particularly in large buildings, interior extension work is often started only after carpet works are completed, causing heavy soiling of the carpet or the finished floor is not protected against the dirt from the subsequent works. Experience has shown that the carpet is then permanently damaged in heaveho actions, by incorrect and non-professional cleaning, even the first time it is cleaned (building completion cleaning). Or residues from cleaning agents remain in the carpet and have a very negative effect on the behaviour of the carpet towards dirt. If, after building completion cleaning, the carpet is not in a condition that is suitable for handing over (e.g. remove films, dust) and intensive cleaning inc. stain removal is required, we also recommend Paul Geißler GmbH. Nonetheless, this problem can be effectively eliminated at the planning stage, by appropriate supplements to tenders and specifications. Here too, we recommend Geißler (contact on page 14) as a competent consultant partner. 4

Regular care/maintenance cleaning Without a doubt, regular vacuuming is the most important element of proper and professional carpet care. Vacuuming releases dust particles from the surface of the carpet and the spaces between the carpet piles and is to be carried out by means of mechanical impact (rotating brush) and suction. Therefore, vacuuming is to be carried out using a brush vacuum with a highperformance brush and suction effect (with a soft brush). Here, it is also dependent on adjustment of the brush height of the vacuum equipment to suit the respective carpet and on the observance of a systematic and thorough way of working. A basic requirement for the functionality of the brush vacuum is regular maintenance and, if necessary, renewal particularly of the brushes, filters and of course the bags. As a vacuum, we particularly recommend the brush vacuums from SEBO Stein & Co. GmbH. (www.girloon.de) Please use the soft (green) Sebo brush as standard. Consistent observance of a cleaning interval is essential: Daily maintenance cleaning with a brush vacuum is essential in areas with heavy use, such as entrance halls, receptions areas, offices with chair roller use, restaurants, inside and in front of lifts, corridors and clean walkway zones. Areas with medium or low use, such as conference rooms, offices that are rarely used, side rooms and private residential areas are to be vacuumed as required although at least every other day. This is the only way to prevent a premature formation of walkway marks or damage to the carpet. 5

Stain treatment (removal) Most important Stain removal must be carried out directly after the stain appears and definitely no later than with the maintenance cleaning cycle. Please note The sooner a stain is treated, the greater the probability that it can be removed without trace, unless the stain substance has damaged the surface of the pile or its colouring. If stains are treated immediately and with suitable media, complete removal is usually not a problem. In most cases, slight dirt marks and stains can be removed with warm water and a absorbent cloth (white cotton cloth). Better still for absorbing dirt are remnants of the carpet that has been laid or microfibre cloths/microfibre gloves. Tough stains, for which warm water is not sufficient, must be removed with suitable stain removers. Use detergent-free and crystal hardening stain removers (if in doubt, please ask). Please note that the stain remover is always to be applied on the cleaning cloth and not directly on the carpet. Stain treatment is always to be carried out by dabbing or pressing on the stain and turning and not rubbing a large area going out from the edge of the stain thus, from the edge towards the middle. Before use and without exception, ensure in every case that the stain remover used is tested on a point that is not visible or that is hidden. We can provide no guarantee and accept no liability for incorrect handling. 6

All cleaning chemicals applied to the carpet must be removed without residue, in order to prevent the carpet from quickly becoming dirty again. Do not use bleaching agents or cleaning products containing bleaching agents, as these cause irreversible damage to the colour or the carpet fibres. In general, always keep cleaning agents out of reach of children or animals. Should the information listed above not help you, please contact INFLOOR applications engineering on telephone number +49 (0) 5245/8401456 or our co-operation partners, Firma Paul Geißler GmbH (FDT head office). You will find the telephone number at the end of these care and cleaning instructions. Interim/surface cleaning Interim cleaning is the complete or partial area cleaning of the surface of the carpet (with a limited depth effect). Interim cleaning provides a visible improvement and delays the time for basic/intensive cleaning. The INFLOOR care and cleaning express also provides an accurate overview of the cleaning methods available. Cleaning with prefabricated foam The carpet is initially cleaned thoroughly with a brush vacuum or a counter rotating brush roller machine and stain removal is carried out. After this, standing foam is applied to the carpet by rollers or single disc machines. The foam is then vacuumed off with the dirt that is bound into it, by means of a high performance industrial water suction device. After a drying period of approx. five hours (depending on the type of floor), the carpet must again be vacuumed thoroughly with a brush vacuum. 7

Powder cleaning The carpet is initially cleaned thoroughly with a brush vacuum or a counter rotating brush roller machine and stain removal is carried out. After this, a damp cleaning powder is distributed evenly over the carpet by means of a roller or by hand and rubbed in with a special brush roller machine with two counter rotating brushes. The released dirt is absorbed and bound by the cleaning powder. After the powder dries, the carpet must be vacuumed very thoroughly with a brush vacuum so the powder residue in the carpet is a little as possible. Pad-System The carpet is initially cleaned thoroughly with a brush vacuum or a counter rotating brush roller machine and stain removal is carried out. After this, a detergent-free cleaning agent is applied using a pressure sprayer. The dirt bound in the carpet is then removed from the surface by means of a single disc machine with a thread or microfibre pad and held in the pad. Finally, the carpet is vacuumed with a brush vacuum in order to straighten and parallelise the shag. The drying time is approx. 1-2 hours, depending on the type of floor. Intermediate/partial surface cleaning is also to be carried out by a professional. Test cleaning should always be carried out, regardless of the cleaning process. Basic/intensive cleaning Basic/intensive cleaning includes the full area and depth effective cleaning of the carpet in the whole depth of the pile. The processes for doing this are spray extraction, the combination process (shampooing plus spray extraction) and the TEPTOP-Clean system of Paul Geißler GmbH (FDT head office). Depending on the level of dirt in the carpet, the systems may have to be combined with each other. Here too, the INFLOOR care and cleaning express provides a precise overview of which cleaning method can be used for which carpet. 8

Basic/intensive cleaning is to be carried out by professional carpet cleaners. Only specialist businesses have the necessary knowledge and experience in the selection and application of the correct cleaning process, in consideration of the quality of the carpet and way in which it is laid. This therefore gives you the security of satisfactory and long-lasting result. Spray extraction The carpet is initially cleaned thoroughly with a brush vacuum or a counter rotating brush roller machine and stain removal is carried out. In the pure spray extraction process, a detergent-free cleaning agent is then sprayed on using a sprayer device. The released dirt is washed out of the carpet by means of pressure and a sufficient water feed quantity, using a spray extraction machine. Note: This process is not suitable for the INFLOOR easytex and silenttex systems, or any floor covering that is not glued or affixed in place. Note: Use detergent-free and crystal hardening cleaning products. The cleaning agent is not poured into the spray extraction machine. The cleaning agent must be removed with no residue, by repeated rinsing with clean water. The drying time for this process (depending on the floor and the dirt) is at least 12 hours. Combination process The carpet is initially cleaned thoroughly with a brush vacuum or a counter rotating brush roller machine and stain removal is carried out. In the combination process, a detergent-free cleaning fluid is initially rubbed into the carpet with a single disc or roller machine. After a short penetration time, the wet foam arising here and the dirt that is bound into it are vacuumed off and washed out in the same process, using a spray extraction machine with a sufficient water feed quantity. 9

The drying time with this system is rarely under 20 hours. Thermoelectric cleaning process TEP-TOP-Clean : The carpet is initially cleaned thoroughly with a brush vacuum or a counter rotating brush roller machine and stain removal is carried out. With this system, an environmentally friendly cleaning enzyme is applied to the carpet. After this, the inherent dirt is deeply and thoroughly removed from the carpet using the patented TEP-TOP-Clean technique with so-called thermoelectric operation by means of heat, mechanics and damp and trapped in a special cleaning pad. The cleaning pad ends up with very little damp and is designed so that the carpet fibres are straightened in the direction of cleaning. Finally, the carpet is vacuumed with a brush vacuum, in order to straighten and parallelise the shag for the drying time. This patented process is ideal for ensuring proper care from the very outset, and is suitable for the INFLOOR easytex and silenttex systems, as well as all nonaffixed or non-glued floor coverings. Basic/intensive cleaning is to be carried out by a professional. Test cleaning should always be carried out, regardless of the cleaning process. Important Please note that the cleaning methods given in the care and cleaning express for the respective products are matched only to the carpets themselves and not to the way in which they are laid (e.g. glued, stretched, fixed) or their bases, as these are unknown to us for the individual cases. 10

The spray extraction and combination processes are excluded for the entire surface of all carpeted floors (strip products & tiles) which are not firmly glued or affixed in place; these processes are only partially possible in small areas with a low moisture application. The TEP-TOP-Clean System should be used exclusively for thoroughly cleaning all grades that have been laid using the INFLOOR easytex and/or silenttex system. Care and cleaning of INFLOOR carpets For the long term maintenance of your INFLOOR carpet, we would like to offer you our unreserved recommendation of Paul Geißler GmbH Zentrale der Fachgemeinschaft Deutscher Teppichbodenreiniger Norderneyer Strasse 12, 80809 München Tel.: 089/32 71 47 15 Fax: 089/32 71 47 16 E-Mail: info@paul-geissler-gmbh.de as a competent and reliable consultation and service partner for care and cleaning, on the basis of our longstanding and intensive co-operation with the Geißler company. The cleaning of a product of such high quality as your INFLOOR carpet doubtless belongs in the hands of a specialist carpet cleaning company. Particularly in the building division and as one point among many in the overall responsibility of a building cleaner, our experience shows that the retention of this maintenance group will not guarantee the long term value retention of the carpet. The value retention of the carpet is the core objective of the Geißler company its concept of care from the start. Mr Paul Geißler is the founder and managing director of FDT, the specialist society of German carpet cleaners, which we consider to represent the standard in carpet cleaning. For us, the Geißler company stands out for the fact that they do not use only one single cleaning product together with just one established cleaning process for all types of floor, but rather always match both the cleaning agent and the cleaning process to the respective floor structure, the way in which the carpet is laid and the usage conditions of the building for each individual case. 14

Moreover, the Geißler company is the only cleaning company operating all over Germany that has the TEP-TOP-Clean system, which was developed and patented by the company itself and which is recognised by the German carpet research institute and TÜV as a standard cleaning process a process based on enzymes, which dampens the carpet very little and which leaves no cleaning agent residues in the shag; a completely innovative process, which cares for both the carpet and the environment and which is naturally also ideally suited to most INFLOOR products. Furthermore, in our experience, the high level of specialist competence of the Geißler company is also complemented perfectly by an equally high degree of reliability both in the practical execution of cleaning services and in the administrative co-operation of after sales care for our customers. Care from the start Your exclusive INFLOOR will thank you for it for many years to come 15
