Identifying Your Water System There are 3 common hot water systems in the UK: Gravity Fed, Combi Boiler or High Pressure Unvented systems. Use the chart below to identify the system you have and which type of shower you can choose from*. Do you have a hot water cylinder in your airing cupboard? Taps Water Pressure Each tap listed has its minimum pressure requirements for adequate performance (measured in bars). Typically 0.1-0.9 bar is low pressure and 1 bar and above is high pressure. The amount of pressure generated depends on the type of water system installed. As a general guide an Indirect water system has a cold water tank (normally in a loft or airing cupboard) and a hot water storage tank (usually stored in an airing cupboard). This is a low pressure system. A Direct water system (high pressure) takes water supplies directly from the water mains and usually uses a combination boiler to generate hot water.
