Collection Guidelines Don t miss us! Put your container outside by 7 a.m. on your designated collection day. Bag your trash to prevent the wind from blowing it out of the container as we dump it and to keep your container clean. Keep the lid closed, and do not overfill. Our operators do not pick up bags of trash outside the container. Place containers at your designated collection point - near your driveway, at the front curb or within 3 feet (3 ) of the alley s edge. Position the container with the wheels towards your house. Multiple containers should be positioned with 1-2 feet of space between them. Do not place containers near mailboxes, electrical or cable boxes, or other stationary objects such as gas or water meter. Do not park vehicles in front of containers on collection day. Do not place household chemicals and electronics in your garbage cart. Murphy offers a biannual event to dispose of these items, every April and October. If your container needs repair or replacing, contact us by email murphy@wasteconnections.com or phone 972-468-4100. Bulk/Brush Guidelines Collection of 4 cubic yards is allowed weekly at no additional cost to the resident. Waste that is too large for the green container, including tree trimmings, furniture, bags of leaves and grass and carpeting should be placed at the front curb no earlier than 7 p.m. the day before scheduled pick up of brush and bulky waste. Tree limbs should be cut down to no longer than 4ft, bundled and tied, bundles weighing no more than 50lbs each. Wood must be cut down to manageable piles, following the above criteria. Any concrete/nails must be removed. 1 Cubic Yard - 4 Cubic Yards = FREE Bundled Brush/Acceptable Bulky Item volumes exceeding 4 cubic yards will result in the following fees being automatically billed to the resident. Disposing of Prescription Drugs Home Disposal: What to do on other days of the year when there is no take-back program available If a take-back program is not available, home disposal, when completed correctly per the instructions below, is another option to dispose of prescription drugs: Step 1 - Remove medications from their original containers. If the medication is solid, crush it or add water to dissolve it and then mix the medication with an undesirable substance, such as kitty litter or coffee grounds. This makes the mixture unattractive to children and pets and unrecognizable to potential abusers who may go through your trash. Step 2 - Place the mixture in a container with a lid or in a sealable baggie to prevent the medication from leaking, and throw it into the trash. Step 3 - When discarding the original containers, scratch out or remove identifiers on the bottle and/or packaging. Disposing of Needles Syringes/needles can be disposed of with your regular trash when placed in a sharps container, empty laundry detergent/bleach bottle, milk carton, or other protective container that prevents injury to the sanitation employees. A list of the Do s and Don ts of syringe disposal can be found on the TCEQ webpage below. TCEQ HHW Overview - http://tceq.state.tx.us/p2/hhw/hhw/html
