Consolidated version from October 1 2014 Curriculum for te Bacelor s Programme in Arcitecture at te Faculty of Arcitecture, University of Innsbruck 1 Qualification Profile and Programme Aims (1) Te Bacelor s Programme in Arcitecture is grouped among te engineering sciences. (2) Te bacelor s programme conveys fundamental knowledge of te practice and teory of arcitecture, qualifying graduates to manage building projects from analysis and specification of te planning task, design and construction, presenting and conveying information relevant to te planning process, and controlling implementation and realization processes. Acquired competencies include fundamental knowledge and metods of design, planning and drafting for te following areas of application: urban development and spatial planning, landscape design, detail planning, load-bearing and object planning, project implementation, ecology and building pysics, and virtual aspects of arcitecture. In addition to arcitectural core skills, special attention is paid to cultural and social aspects of arcitecture. Students develop an understanding of wat it means to go beyond accomplising construction and tecnical tasks to being cultural representatives and fulfilling a responsible role in society. Te basis is te acquisition of fundamental knowledge of te teory and istory of arcitecture and related fields. Te programme also imparts an understanding of te cooperation between various disciplines in planning and building processes and of te interactions wit oter artistic and tecnical disciplines. Interdisciplinary and team-oriented tinking and cooperation are as muc a part of te qualification profile as te ability to communicate and to present effectively, including te use of new media. Accompanying practical experience and semesters abroad are promoted to provide students career preparation wit a practical and international focus. Te completion of te Bacelor s Programme in Arcitecture at te University of Innsbruck qualifies graduates to conduct planning activities in an arcitectural or planning office, to work in public administration, in building and planning departments of companies and in te building industry, to fulfill project development and consulting tasks, to be active in new design disciplines in te context of te information society. (3) Completion of te bacelor s programme allows graduates to pursue te Master s Programme in Arcitecture at te University of Innsbruck. 1

2 Scope and duration Te Bacelor s Programme in Arcitecture covers 180, corresponding to a duration of six semesters. One Credit is equivalent to a work-load of 25 ours. 3 Courses and numbers of participants (1) Courses witout continuous assessment: 1. Lectures (VO Vorlesung ) serve to convey systematic and/or in-dept knowledge. Tey provide an overview of te state of knowledge in te respective subject area. Te active role is taken primarily by te instructor. Te didactic structure of lectures also includes providing materials. No maximum number of participants. 2. Study orientation courses (SL Studienorientierungslerveranstaltungen ) provide an overview of te main content of te study programme and its structure in order to give students an objective basis to assess teir decision to pursue teir cosen subject(s). Maximum number of participants: 30. (2) In practical courses (UE Übungen ), students apply subject knowledge to specific issues, wit supervision by instructors. Practical courses serve to test, examine and deepen te respective subject area. Practical courses are continuous assessment courses. Maximum number of participants: 30. (3) Lecture-practical courses (VU Vorlesungen verbunden mit Übungen ) are courses tat consist of parts of lectures and practical courses, as defined in paragraps 1 and 2. Lecture-practical courses are courses wit continuous assessment. Maximum number of participants: 15. (4) Seminars (SE Seminare ) combine te transmission of knowledge wit independent knowledge acquisition. Students work on various tasks metodologically, presenting, discussing and documenting teir results. Seminars are courses wit continuous assessment. Maximum number of participants: 30. (5) Design projects (EP Entwurfsprojekte ) are project-oriented, focusing on te development of designing abilities. All steps in te work process from te formulation of aims, conception and development of te project to te presentation of te results are practiced and refined. Te design project is supervised and, were necessary, eld as one-on-one teacing or in groups. Design projects are courses wit continuous assessment. Maximum number of participants: 15 (6) Excursions (EX Exkursionen ) are courses tat serve to demonstrate teacing content in local contexts, followed by discussion in seminar form. Excursions are courses wit continuous assessment. Maximum number of participants: 30. 4 Procedures for te allocation of places in courses wit a limited number of participants In courses wit a limited number of participants, course places are allocated as follows: (1) Students for wom non-admission would demonstrably result in a prolonged duration of studies are given priority. (2) If te criterion in 1 does not suffice for te regulation of course admission, priority sould be given first to students for wom tis is a mandatory module and second to tose for wom tis is an elective module. (3) If te criteria in 1 and 2 do not suffice for te regulation of course admission, remaining course places are allocated by random selection. 2

Application of various tecniques suc as sketcing, model-building, drawing plans and using digital metods. 5 10 Total 5 10 Knowledge of fundamental arcitectural materials, means and metods. Prerequisite(s): none B02 Compulsory module: Representation Tecniques 1 B02.1 SE Fundamentals of Design Elementary concepts and working metods of design, suc as scale, proportion, compositional tecniques, sensory, introduction to perception teory. B02.2 SE CAD Introduction to CAD. B02.3 UE Sketcing, Drafting, Painting 1 Development of a personal andwriting. Illustrative metods and teir application in representing arcitectural objects; training spatial tinking and 3-D imagination; axonometry, sadow constructions, projection, special curves and surfaces, process. B03.2 UE Sketcing, Drafting, Painting 2 Expansion of te competences acquired in B02.3 B03.3 VO Digital Design Metods Using project examples by well-known arcitects, te lecture sows ow digital working tecniques and tools influence arcitectural understanding and arcitectural creations in te 21 st century. Prerequisite(s): none B04 Compulsory module: Culture B04.1 VO History of Building 1 Te development of te art of building from classical antiquity to te Middle Ages, processes of development, istory of construction. B04.2 VO Contemporary Culture Introduction to te art and culture of te last century to today; freelance creative artists from fields suc as painting, sculpture, music, acting, dance, literature, and arcitecture take turns presenting teir respective areas. B04.3 VO Cultural Studies Introduction to and overview of contemporary cultural discourses in popular and ig cultures; arcitecture at te intersections of various cultural practices. B04.4 VO Contemporary Arcitecture and Arts Te lecture introduces artistic moments of te 20t and 21st centuries tat ave influenced arcitectural designing processes to te present. B05.2 SE Building Construction Fundamentals Introduction to te representation of building parts in building construction, understanding of te demands placed on building structures and parts and teir performance in solid and ligtweigt construction from te foundations to te roof.
