Guide to your new windows and doors Our programme of home improvements is designed to make sure that homes are up-to-date, warm and energy efficient. The programme will ensure that all homes meet the Government s Decent Homes Standard, and includes fitting new doors and windows to some properties. This leaflet explains what will happen if we replace doors and windows at your home, to help you know what to expect. Why are we replacing doors and windows? We are surveying all our homes to find out which works are needed to meet the Decent Homes Standard. The surveys will reveal if your home needs new double-glazed doors or windows. This will usually be to improve the energy efficiency of the home, and to make sure it is warm, safe and comfortable for you and your family. The survey may reveal that you need new doors or windows, or both. Homes are identified each financial year so programmes start in April and run until the following March. We will, wherever possible, group addresses together so we can work on a streetby-street basis.
What you can expect All new doors are certified as being Secured by Design. This means they meet strict security criteria and have a threepart locking system (top, middle and bottom) and a spy hole for extra safety. You will be given three keys which will operate both the front and back door. Windows are fitted with anti jamming bars which improve home security and each individual window is fitted with a lock and key. Who will be completing the work? We have a highly-skilled and fully-qualified team which will fit the new doors and windows at your home. The work usually takes between one and two working days although it depends on the number of windows at your home and whether you are having both the windows and the doors replaced. We will let you know when the work will start and how long it will take before we arrive on site.
How will the works be completed? Here is a summary of the process: Day 1-2 Your existing windows will be stripped out and the new ones will be fitted. Guide to your new windows and doors A special weatherproof seal will be applied to ensure the windows remain water tight. If you are having doors fitted, they will be removed and replaced by the new ones. If you have requested a cat flap this will already be fitted to the door before installation. You will be responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the cat flap. Doors will also be sealed to ensure they remain water tight. If we have confirmed that we will be replacing doors and windows at your home, we will contact you closer to the time to arrange a suitable start date We always ask that if you have any health problems or disabilities that will affect the way we carry out the work, that you let us know. We will do our best to accommodate your needs.
Guide to your new windows and doors Your satisfaction It is not easy having building works done in your home. It is often noisy, disruptive and it can be messy. We will do our best to keep disruption to a minimum and provide you with an end result you can enjoy and be proud of for a very long time to come. We value your views and hope you will be happy with the service you have received from us. If you are not happy with the service your feedback can help us improve things. So that we can measure how we are performing, we will ask you to complete a customer satisfaction survey once the work has been completed. This helps us improve the service to you and other customers.
