Overview The SIMPLY5 Sensor Connector is used to provide an input for low voltage occupancy sensors and photocells. Use the S5SC with SIMPLY5-compatible lighting fixtures and control devices for fully integrated occupancy and daylight-based lighting control. SIMPLY5 components are plug-and-play devices. They feature automatic detection and configuration for proper operation with other connected SIMPLY5 control devices and lighting fixtures. S5SC Sensor Connectors may be connected at any point in the zone they control. When an occupancy sensor is connected, it will automatically control all zones in the room (all lighting fixtures connected to the SIMPLY 5 Signal Network). When a photocell is connected, it will only control the zone to which it is connected (the local S5JB to which it is connected). Operation The S5SC contains one occupancy sensor input and one photocell input. Occupancy Sensor Input: The S5SC s occupancy sensor input automatically configures to control all lighting fixtures connected in the room, regardless of the number, or location, of all intelligent junction boxes (S5JB) in the space. The S5SC is compatible with the full line of Lithonia Litronic low voltage occupancy sensors. The S5SC s default occupancy sensor function is for manual on / automatic off, but may be configured via the optional S5LEM interface for automatic on / automatic off or automatic on / automatic minimum operation. The S5SC will issue a warning blink 5 minutes prior to turning off the lights. A S5W wall station may be used for manual control and quiet time functionality allowing 1 hour of override to prevent the occupancy sensor from turning off the lights during periods of little movement. To enter Quiet Time mode, press and hold the on/off paddle switch on the S5SW for 3 seconds. The green bargraph LED to the left of the paddle will blink when Quiet Time mode has begun. Photocell Input: The S5SC s photocell input automatically calibrates for daylight-responsive control of the lighting fixtures in the zone to which it is connected. The photocell input only controls the lighting fixtures local to the intelligent junction box (S5JB) zone to which it is connected. 15 WHIP STANDARD FOR S5SC 120 AND S5SC 277 Figure 1 - S5SC 3/08 Page 1

Installation HARDWARE Mount Device Mount the S5SC above the ceiling near the photocell or occupancy sensor location, using the mounting holes in the back of the S5SC enclosure. ELECTRICAL Connect Devices The S5SC Sensor Connector is furnished with a Reloc Control Tee for plug and play connection at any point on a SIMPLY5 control zone. The S5SC may also be ordered without the Reloc connector by ordering the HW hardwire option. S5SC Connect the S5SC Reloc Control Tee at the point on the SIMPLY5 zone where control is desired. Connect the occupancy sensor and/or photocell to the S5SC by terminating the conductors from the sensor in the poke-home connector inside the S5SC enclosure. (See Figure 2 For Details) S5SC HW: Select the point on the SIMPLY5 zone where control is desired. Connect the SIMPLY5 signal network conductors to the 2 violet wires inside the S5SC enclosure (they are not polarity sensitive). The S5SC s photocell input automatically calibrates for daylight-responsive control of the lighting fixtures. Manual calibration is typically NOT required for proper photocell operation. However, for situations where greater control over daylight harvesting operation is desired, an optional Scaling Factor Setup procedure is available. As this Scale Factor setting is lowered, the natural light in the space will have less effect on the artificial light level. As the Scale Factor setting is raised, the natural light in the space will have more effect on the artificial light level. Follow the steps below to set up the Scaling Factor: Calibration 1. Grasp the bottom of the large paddle on the S5SW, and pull out and up gently until you hear a click and the bargraph and amber locator LEDs go off. 2. Press in and hold the paddle switch until the amber locator LED begins flashing once per second, then release it. 3. Press & release the paddle switch once, the amber indicator LED will begin to flash twice per second. 4. Press & release the paddle switch once more, the amber indicator LED will turn steady on. 5. Within the next 10 seconds, you must press and hold the paddle switch until the bargraph LED begins to flash. This should be about 3 seconds. 6. Release the paddle switch after the bargraph LED begins to flash. The lights will flash 3 times indicating Scale Factor Setup Mode is active. The bargraph will indicate the current Scale Value. 7. Use the Raise/Lower button to set the Scale Factor from 1 to 7. 8. Press & release the paddle switch once more to exit Scale Factor Setup Mode. The lights will flash 3 times indicating the system has exited Scale Factor Setup Mode. Note: During this calibration period, you should not try to operate the lights. Additionally, the user has the option to force the photocell into calibration mode. Follow the steps below to force calibration: 1. 7. Press and hold the paddle switch until the bargraph LED begins to flash, which should last about 3 seconds. The lights will flash once to indicate calibration mode is active, then the lights will go to full for approximately 30 seconds. While at full, the bargraph LED will blink from bottom to top. After this time interval ends, the lights will go off for 5 seconds. While off, the bottom bargraph LED will blink from top to bottom. The lights will blink once more to indicate the end of calibration mode, and then transition back into Scale Factor Setup Mode. 8. Press & release the paddle switch once more to exit Scale Factor Setup Mode. The lights will flash 3 times indicating the system has exited Scale Factor Setup Mode. Note: During this calibration period, you should not try to operate the lights. Page 4 3/08

1. The sensors connected to S5SC appear to have no control: The S5SC circuit board contains a status LED which will blink approximately once a second while power is applied. If the sensors connected to S5SC appear to have no effect on the controlled lighting fixtures, remove the cover on the S5SC and verify that the status LED is blinking. If the LED is not blinking, the S5SC is damaged, is not connected to the SIMPLY5 data signal network, or the SIMPLY5 data signal network is not operating correctly.
