A S S O C I A T E S C A V A G N E R O M A R K The fight is never about grapes or lettuce. It is always about people. Cesar Chavez TULLY SENTER COMMUNITY CENTER - The project is designed to minimize risk and exposure to the busy street yet provide a sense of openness. The building opens off the rear to several courtyards and common outdoor space. The courtyards provide expanded program space and the outdoor space is used as multi-program space and play space for children. The interiors are designed to be bright, full of light, and cheery. The rooms are all flexible and multi-functional. MARIN HORIZON SCHOOL - The project is designed to bring a sense of lightness to a children s school. The siding is wood, with alternating bands of large glass openings. This playful and light exterior is exciting for the children, it is also very secure. Gates are designed at key entry locations, ensuring that the school can control its exposure while feeling open and free. COMMUNITY SCHOOL OF MUSIC AND ARTS The project is designed to give a diverse community of parents and children a secure home in the midst of a difficult, transitional neighborhood. The design begins with a sheltered and secure courtyard at its center, around which all rooms and spaces open. This brings in light, provides centrality and shared sense of the place. COMMUNITY CENTER IN SAN JOSE DESIGNED THROUGH MARIN COMMUNITY FOUNDATION - The project is designed in a large, tall former aircraft hanger. Our design is composed of small, almost building-like new rooms which bring down the scale of the large space. This sense of scale and light brings cohesion and community into the feel of the building. The client wanted a strong sense of place, and so the deigned followed that lead. EXTENSIVE COMMUNITY PROCESS Genuine politics is simply a matter of serving those around us: serving the community and serving those who will come after us. Its deepest roots are moral because it is a responsibility expressed through action, to and for the whole. Vaclav Havel CLOVIS MEMORIAL DISTRICT CONVENTION CENTER - The project is designed to attach new space to an existing center. The new spaces are a multi-purpose lecture hall, dining room, meeting rooms and administrative spaces. The materials are warm in color, but durable to sustain heavy public use. The project yields an entirely new entry which brings together all the wayfaring and orientation issues with the prior building plan and resolves them integrally. MARIN COMMUNITY FOUNDATION COMMUNITY THEATER What should young people do with their lives today? Many things, obviously. But the most daring thing is to create stable communities in which the terrible disease of loneliness can be cured Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. CHILDREN AGE 8-14 A healthy social life is found only, when in the mirror of each soul the whole community finds its reflection, and when in the whole community the virtue of each one is living Rudolf Steiner TRINITY SCHOOL - The project is designed to allow an open and unencumbered movement from an older campus into the new building, play spaces and beautiful mature trees beyond. Designed with children in mind, outdoor spaces are flexible and can be used for teaching, playing or outdoor eating. Natural ventilation is designed throughout, so the school works without air conditioning. Abundant natural light offers great views and balanced light for children to feel comfortable for extended hours. SAVA POOL - The project is designed to bring a sense of community and dignity to a public swimming center. The materials are durable and long term, but are balanced by the natural warmth of wood. Blue tile is used to add color and vibrancy. Abundant daylight comes in from each side of the building. The windows are operable and there are three large roof vents to allow ease of natural ventilation. COMMUNITY SCHOOL OF MUSIC Never doubt that a small, group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has Margaret Mead COMMUNITY POOL CHIILDREN AGE 5-10 OMMUNI CHILDREN S DROP-OFF MARIN COUNTRY DAY SCHOOL - The project is designed to be warm and welcoming, offering a sense of arrival for an entire school campus beyond. The canopy protects the children from the rain, while allowing a comfortable place to sit and wait for parents. The openness on both sides adds to the sense of security and responsiveness to the immediate environment.
