Adveco Range of Stainle Steel Cylinder The Adveco range of Stainle Steel Cylinder conit of three type of veel, baed on the number of internal heat exchange coil upplied: SSB Stainle Steel Buffer veel, upplied with zero coil; SSI Stainle Steel Indirect veel containing one coil mounted in the lower flange of the tank; and SST Stainle Steel Twin-Coil veel containing two heat exchange coil. The SSB, SSI and SST range i deigned, manufactured, and teted in the EU to the requirement of: The Preure Equipment Directive BS EN 12897:2006 The cope of BS EN 12897:2006 cover indirectly heated, unvented torage water heater, with or without immerion heater backup, up to 1000L and 10 bar. Although tainle teel veel over 1000L are not directly covered by thi tandard we have employed the pirit of thi tandard in the deign and manufacture of the range and the exact tet procedure have been utilied to verify the tank. Thi upport the requirement for ound engineering a precribed by the Preure Equipment Directive for veel covered by Article 3, Paragraph 3. The SSB, SSI and SST range of tainle teel veel up to 1000L have been produced to the requirement of BS EN 12897:2006. The larger veel which are outide the cope of BS EN 12897:2006 have been type teted in accordance with ection 6.2 and the production unit are teted to ection 6.3. The full range of tainle teel veel are WRAS approved product, with approval reference 1605319. Stainle Steel Cylinder Intallation Requirement The SSB, SSI and SST range of tainle teel veel are uitable for intallation in vented or unvented intallation up to a maximum preure of 6 bar. Any unvented cylinder intallation hould be notified to Building Control. Thi i bet done through a Competent Peron Scheme by intaller holding a valid unvented dometic hot water ticket. Hot water ytem poe a potential rik for building occupant with regard temperature and biological rik. It i the reponibility of the building controller to ae the rik to the occupant of calding or Legionella and put in place uitable tep to protect the occupant. The following document offer guidance and aitance on reponibilitie: ACOP L8, 2014 HSG0274 part 2 Health and Safety at Work Act HTM 04 01 part A and B Building Regulation Part G BS EN 806 all part The rik aement hould be carried out by omeone uitably qualified. How to Ue Thi Manual All general information, intruction and pecification lited within thi manual applie to the full range of SSB, SSI and SST veel. Any pecific information relevant to only SSI or SST veel i contained within dedicated ection and i clearly identified by ection title. In compliance with the procedure and advice contained within thi manual, reponibility lie with the intaller to enure that the veel are afely intalled and with the uer to maintain a afe tandard of operation. Thi include enuring that the unit i not operated at temperature or preure in exce of thoe tated on the veel data plate. Neither hould the veel be expoed to a full or partial vacuum, uch a can be preent during drawoff or drainage of the unit while the cold feed or vent are cloed or obtructed. Intallation 1. Location The veel mut be located inide the building and poitioned on a level bae capable of upporting the unit when full. The total filled weight of a unit i equivalent to the um of the empty weight of the veel plu the water volume in litre of the tank (given on p.13) and any intalled coil (p.14-15). (1 litre of water = 1kg) Suitable clearance hould be allowed to give acce for inpection and cleaning a well a removal and replacement of immerion heater, tat, and afety valve. Conideration hould be given to the eventual replacement of the entire calorifier. Tank up to 500L come with the inulation jacket already fitted to the veel. The inulation jacket can be removed if neceary to move the veel into location. The jacket mut be replaced before the cylinder i piped up. Tank from 800L are upplied with the inulation jacket eparate. Intallation 3. Primary Pipework The tainle teel range of indirect tank are produced with flange for up to two removable coil, leading to three ditinct product range depending on the number of coil intalled. The SSB Stainle Steel Buffer range i provided with blank flange and no coil intalled. The SSI Stainle Steel Indirect range i upplied with a ingle coil mounted in the lower flange, and the SST Stainle Steel Twin-Coil range i provided with coil fitted into both flange. A a reult, the tainle teel range can cater for mot hot water application. The coil fitted within the SST can be ued individually for two different heat ource, or can be combined by external, additional pipework (not upplied) to give a larger capacity ytem. With thee combination the veel can be ued a a preheat, afterheater, buffer or tand alone water heating ytem. While intalling pipework conideration hould be given to removal of the coil for maintenance and cleaning of the tank. Valve and union type fitting are required. SST Combined Coil For larger capacity ytem with one heat ource the coil can be combined. The tandard way to do thi i in erie o the primary flow through the top coil then through the bottom coil. To etimate the total kw capacity with both coil, baed on an 80 C primary temperature, add the kw capacity for the top coil at 80 C to the kw capacity for the bottom coil at 70 C. For technical detail on kw capacitie at 70 C, on different temperature, or if a more accurate calculation i required, pleae contact the Adveco Engineering Department. SST Separate Coil In the cae of two heat ource the lower grade heat or le cotly energy ource hould go into the bottom coil to act a a preheat. The more reliable ource of high grade heat (uually a boiler) hould be piped into the top coil. Air Relief Each coil ha a 3/8 inch connection for an air bleed point to commiion the coil. Intallation 4. Secondary Pipework General A normal intallation will include the tainle teel cylinder a part of an unvented ytem. The pipework hould be correctly ized to carry the maximum imultaneou demand of hot water for the building. Thi may or may not be the ame ize a the cold feed connection. Cold Feed The cold feed pipework hould be complete with an unvented kit, upplied by Adveco, for all unvented application. Thi mut include a check valve, preure relief valve, expanion veel, and temperature and preure relief valve. For all main ytem thi mut alo include a preure reducing valve and trainer. The temperature and preure relief valve etting are defined in the Water Supply (Water Fitting) Regulation ection 23. The preure etting hould be at leat 0.5 bar above the preure relief valve etting. A 3/4 inch valve i uitable for mot indirect ytem. The preure relief valve hould be et to a maximum preure equal to the maximum working preure of the tank. The tandard unvented kit upplied by Adveco ha a variable preure reducing valve with etting available between 1 bar and 5.5 bar. The expanion veel hould be calculated to be roughly 5% of the total volume of the hot water ytem. Contact the Adveco Engineering Department for a full calculation. The preure of the expanion veel mut be et equal to the cold fill preure of the ytem. The expanion veel preure mut be et with no preure on the wet ide of the membrane. In accordance with HSG0274 part 2 the expanion veel mut be on the cold feed pipe. For erie tank only one expanion veel hould be ued at the beginning of the ytem. Conideration may be given to flow-through type expanion veel for ytem identified a high rik. There cannot be any type of iolation between the preure relief valve and the veel. Thi would be conidered at rik. The expanion veel branch can have a lock hield valve a long a the relief valve i not on the ame branch. See further note for tank and pipework arrangement on page 13-16. Drain The cold feed i located at the lowet part of the cylinder to meet anti-legionella requirement. A drain hould be intalled in the cold feed at the lowet point, before the connection to the cylinder. The drain valve hall be of uitable ize to allow draining of the tank in a reaonable amount of time. It i recommended that a 1/4 turn lever valve and plug or cap are ued and that the valve ize be one ize maller than the cold feed connection ize. A uitable drain or gulley hould be provided to allow draining of the tank. Vented Sytem In cae of a vented ytem the unvented kit can be omitted. From the hot flow there mut be an uninterrupted open vent with no valve, of at leat 19mm internal diameter, reaching above the water level of the cold water tank and dicharging to a afe place (not into the cold tank). Intallation 5. Dicharge Pipework Dicharge from relief valve. Dicharge pipework requirement are found in Building Regulation Part G. They are ummaried here but it i recommended to read the regulation in full at http://www.planningportal.gov.uk/buildingregulation/ approveddocument/partg/approved D1, the pipe from the relief valve to the air break, mut have the ame diameter a the valve, mut be metal, and mut be no longer than 600mm. An airbreak, uch a a tundih or a funnel, mut be intalled at the end of D1. D2, the pipe from the air break to termination, mut be at leat one ize larger than D1, mut have at leat 300mm vertical drop before a bend, and mut have a continuou fall. It hould typically be metal, but PP i acceptable (note: PP i puh fit platic. ABS and PVC olvent weld are not uitable.) If D2 i longer than 9m total equivalent length (baed on 1.4m per bend) then the diameter mut be increaed. Pleae refer to Building Regulation G3 at http://www.planningportal.gov.uk/buildingregulation/ If a number of D2 pipe are combined the diameter of the common pipe hould be one ize larger than the bigget D2 pipe. D2 hould be terminated in one of the following way: Into a oil tack, uitable for the temperature, with a mechanical eal, and with no anitary appliance on it and a warning not to ue the pipe for anitary appliance. Into a trapped gulley with the pipe end below the grate but above the water eal. Terminating at low level to a uitable external ground level urface with a guard around the pipe end and that end within 100mm of the ground At high level into a uitable hopper or onto a roof that can withtand the temperature and doe not have platic guttering within 3m of the dicharge and doe not create a rik to people below. Intallation 6. Secondary Return Pipework A econdary return i the bet way to enure that there i hot water at the outlet in a hort amount of time. In ome cae thi could be done with trace heating, but the amount of electricity neceary to do thi mut be conidered. In ome mall ytem it i not neceary to ue either and the hot water can flow directly to the tap. The water at the furthet outlet mut be 50 C within one minute (55 C in healthcare premie) although thi may not be acceptable to uer and a econdary return hould be conidered for waiting time of longer than 20 econd. In all cae ite legionella protection policy take precedence over thi document. The econdary return pump hould be ized to give a uitable flow of hot water around the ytem to enure the returning temperature i at leat 50 C. The pipework mut be inulated. The pump mut have a check valve on the poitive ide of the return pump to prevent cold flow to the hot outlet. For SSB buffer veel application, the econdary hould return into the cold feed of the water heater. For the SST Twin-Coil range, the econdary hould enter the hot water ytem above any low grade heat ource, jut before the final high grade heat ource. For a tandard indirect water heater intallation where both coil are connected together from one heat ource the return hould go into the cold feed downtream of the unvented kit. In cae where two heat ource are ued the econdary return hould be piped into the centre of the tank. 7. Shunt Pump/Detrat pump In intallation where the econdary return i piped into the cold feed it may be conidered that all requirement for detratification or purging are met. Thi mut be confirmed by Legionella rik aement. In intallation without econdary return, or when it i piped into the centre of the tank, it i advied that the tank i entirely heated to 60 C for at leat one hour per day. Thi hould be done with a detratification pump piped from the outlet to the inlet. It hould be timed with a clock to run at a low demand period of the day, while the heat ource i on, for long enough that the bottom of the tank will achieve 60 C for one hour. In intallation with multiple heat ource, a detratification pump hould not run permanently. For buffer veel application, the hunt pump between the buffer outlet and the water heater inlet hould be timed to be the ame a the water heater. Intallation 8. Multiple Tank In cae of a multiple tank ytem the following mut be adhered to. Serie Tank Serie tank are ued in intallation a preheater and afterheater. A low grade or renewable heat ource i ued to heat the preheat and the water i tranferred to the afterheater where the additional energy required will top up the temperature. The afterheater i deigned to be able to upply the entire load if neceary, and it i alway kept up to temperature while the building i occupied. 1. The unvented kit hould be before the preheat veel with an expanion veel ized for the entire ytem. 2. The afterheater mut have a temperature and preure relief valve 3. If it i deirable to be able to drain one tank without affecting the other an iolation valve can be intalled between the two tank only if another preure relief valve i intalled on the afterheater ide of the valve. No check valve or expanion veel hould be intalled between the preheater and afterheater. 4. The econdary return hould be piped into the inlet of the afterheater. 5. A purge pump hould be intalled from the afterheater outlet to the preheater inlet to allow for thermal diinfection of the preheat. Thi can be on a timer or on a control ytem to heat the preheat to 60 C a often a the rik aement ay i neceary. Parallel Tank 1. All pipework including the econdary return to parallel tank hould be balanced either by pyramid or by revere return. 2. It i bet if each tank ha it own unvented kit to allow for eay ervicing of one unit. Conideration hould be given to one common preure reducing valve to enure equal preure and flow through each tank. 3. The econdary return hould connect into each cold feed. SSB Buffer Tank 1. Where a buffer veel i preent, all hot water flow into the building mut come from the buffer. 2. The cold feed hould connect into the water heater. 3. The output from the water heater hould connect into the bottom of the buffer veel. 4. It i advied to include a hunt pump, from the buffer outlet to the inlet of the water heater. 5. An unvented kit hould be intalled on the water heater, with a temperature and preure relief on the buffer veel. 6. The econdary return from the building hould pa into the cold feed of the water heater. Thi can either be a control tat in the tank, or a enor, or a differential control between the tank temperature and the heat ource. In the water heater portion of the ytem the temperature mut be et to at leat 60 C. The minimum outlet temperature i 50 C (55 C in healthcare) and the minimum return temperature i 50 C. The rik to uer mut be aeed and in mot cae all outlet for peronal ue hould be limited with thermotatic mixing valve in accordance with the Building Regulation G3. Overheat Stat. Every tank that contain a heat ource mut have a non-elf-reetting overheat tat that will prevent heat entering the tank from all heat ource either by topping the primary flow or by turning off the heat ource. Stopping the primary flow could be by way of a pring loaded zone valve or by turning off the pump a long a thermoyphoning cannot occur. Time control It i acceptable to hut off the hot water ytem if the building i unoccupied for a hort period over night or on the weekend. Following a hort hutdown the hot water ytem mut come on long enough before occupation o that the hot water ytem ha been up to temperature for at leat one hour. Longer hutdown mut be rik aeed and may require fluhing and diinfection before tartup. Frot protection In normal working operation the tank i protected againt frot becaue it i up to temperature. In ituation where it will be hut down becaue the building i unoccupied conideration mut be given to freezing of the water within the tank and pipework. Maintenance Operation Hot water ytem maintenance hould be determined by the building rik aement and legionella protection policy. While the actual maintenance and cleaning of the indirect tank hould be carried out by a trained operative, there i regular hot water ytem maintenance that mut be carried out more frequently but can be done by the building controller nominated peron. Thi include monthly check of the hot water temperature and regular fluhing of low ue outlet. The more involved maintenance regime of an indirect tank will vary from ite to ite depending on water condition and ue. Maintenance mut take place at leat yearly, but more frequent viit may be required depending on the condition of the unit after one year. The main reaon for frequent maintenance i due to cale formation in the tank. Conideration hould be given to cale control in hard water area to reduce decale frequency. The maintenance of an indirect tank involve checking the ytem and cleaning the tank. Check to carry out: Temperature i correct and above 60 C. Return temperature i above 50 C. Furthet outlet temperature i above 50 C (55 C for healthcare) in 60 econd. Control tat i calibrated and correctly hut off heat ource. Overheat tat i functional and top heat to the tank. Relief valve operate and dicharge correctly. Expanion veel preure i equal to the cold feed preure (checked when there i no preure on the water ide of the diaphragm. All valve travel free. The ytem ha no leak. Cleaning: All filter hould be cleaned. The tank hould be drained down, cleaned and decaled. All heater batterie hould be decaled.
