CORRELATING COMMITTEE LETTER BALLOT PROPOSED TENTATIVE INTERIM AMENDMENT LOG NO. 1189 To Revise Various Sections on Battery in the Proposed 2016 Edition of NFPA 72, National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code Question 1: I agree that there are no correlation issues in accordance with 3.4.2 and 3.4.3 (copy enclosed) of the NFPA Regs. X AGREE DISAGREE* ABSTAIN* *An explanation must accompany a disagreement or abstaining position. If disagreeing, cite relevant section(s)/paragraph(s) of the correlation issue and describe. Question 2: I agree that the subject of this TIA is of an EMERGENCY NATURE. AGREE X DISAGREE* ABSTAIN* *An explanation must accompany a negative/disagreement or abstaining position. The referenced IEEE standards were available in 2010 and 2005. There is no justification to support the introduction of these IEEE standards in NFPA 72 without the opportunity to allow the technical committees to provide input on the effect of adopting these requirements. CORRELATING COMMITTEE LETTER BALLOT PROPOSED TENTATIVE INTERIM AMENDMENT LOG NO. 1189 To Revise Various Sections on Battery in the Proposed 2016 Edition of NFP A 72, National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code Question 1: I agree that there are no correlation issues in accordance with 3.4.2 and 3.4.3 (copy enclosed) of the NFP A Regs. AGREE X. DISAGREE* ABSTAIN* *An explanation must accompany a disagreement or abstaining position. If disagreeing, cite relevant section(s)/paragraph(s) of the correlation issue and describe. There are a number of errors in the material provided. For example, the definition of a battery conflicts with the definition of a Primary (Dry) Cell. 9 volt alkaline batteries are made up of six 1.5 volt cells. In addition, the definitions for Primary Battery (Dry Cell), and Power Supply are fundamental definitions and not exclusive to SIG-TMS and the remaining proposed new definitions should be considered by SIG FUN as well. Question 2: I agree that the subject of this TIA is of an EMERGENCY NATURE. AGREE X DISAGREE* ABSTAIN* *An explanation must accompany a negative/disagreement or abstaining position. NFPA 72 2013 and the NFPA 72 2016 draft require a 20% safety margin to the calculated AH rating of the secondary power supply. The submitter has not provided evidence that installed systems are presently unable to provide the required secondary capacity if installed and maintained in accordance with NFP A 72. The technical content of the proposed TIA should be evaluated by the appropriate technical committet'?, Auring the normal code revision cycle. // I t:j1 /L-- ~ p'/ /-- tsignature Andrew G. Please record my votes as follows: 1188 Correlating Abstain There has been insufficient time to research such a lengthy proposal to determine whether there are any correlation issues. Some of the comments indicate there may be some correlation issues. 1188 Emergency Nature Abstain Again, there has been insufficient time to completely research the lengthy proposal. On first scan, it seems that there is way too much in the proposal to be appropriate for a TIA. This looks like something that needs to have full technical committee action and discussion. 1189 Correlating Abstain There has been insufficient time to research such a lengthy proposal to determine whether there are any correlation issues. There does not seem to be a compelling reason to implement the new requirements outside of the normal cycle.
