HIPPO Deluxe Room Steam Vaporiser Congratulations on your purchase of the HIPPO Deluxe Room Steam Vaporiser. Before using this appliance, read the following instructions carefully as they contain important information on use, safeguards and maintenance. Always keep this instruction leaflet in handy place for easy reference. The appliance must only be used for the intended purpose according to these instructions. Observe the warnings on important precautions. Eliminate the packaging properly. IMPORTANT PRECAUTIONS Before using the HIPPO Deluxe Room Steam Vaporiser for the first time, check for any sign of damage either to the appliance or its power cord. If any damage is observed, DO NOT USE and return appliance to place of sale. WARNING: HOT STEAM is emitted from this appliance. The HIPPO Deluxe Room Steam Vaporiser must be used under strict supervision of an adult who has read and familiarised themselves with the following instructions to avoid the possibility of scalding. Do not use near children, disabled persons and pets. Keep packaging materials like plastic bags out of reach of children. The appliance is not intended for use by young children or infirm persons without supervision. Young children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance. Use this unit only as described in this manual. Other uses not recommended may cause fire or electric shock. This appliance is intended for household use ONLY and not for commercial, industrial or outside use. Position the appliance on a flat, stable, water-resistant surface. Do not use this appliance near bath-tubs, washbasins, large water receptacles or expose it to rain and moisture. Do not expose to outside elements or direct sunlight. Do not immerse base in water and ensure that no water enters into appliance s interior. Do not block or obstruct air vents. Keep ventilation openings free from dust. Never drop or insert any objects into any of the openings. Do not place the appliance directly on furniture, carpets or wooden floors. Do not carry nor pull the appliance by the power cord. Do not wind the power cord around the appliance. Appliances fitted with a water reservoir can lead to water damages. Before every usage, please check that the lid of the tank is securely closed, that the tank has no cracks or damages, and that the membrane valve closes properly. Do not direct the steam flow towards furniture, walls or floors. Do not move or handle the appliance while in use and avoid bumping into it. Do not touch the power cord with wet hands, move the appliance or switch on when in bare feet. Never immerse the appliance in water. Should the appliance accidentally fall into the water, immediately disconnect the plug from the power socket before removing from water. Do not use it until it has been inspected or serviced by an authorised service centre. Always let the appliance cool down and disconnect plug from power socket before cleaning or refilling with water. Ensure that the appliance is empty of water and preferably dry before storing away. Discard any residual water and rinse out before refilling the tank. 1
Periodically carry out maintenance and cleaning operation as detailed in Maintenance and Cleaning Section. Do not operate the appliance unless the aromatic container is in place. All components of the appliance must always be installed as per the description before it is operated. Do not add any medications into the water tank or aromatic container. Do not use hot water. Use only TAP WATER. Aromatic oils must never be added to the water in the reservoir. Do not over fill the aromatic container as the spill may over flow into the water reservoir. Only a few drops of essence is required to obtain the desired effect. Plug the appliance into an electrical socket with the same voltage as shown on the rating label. Do not connect appliance to a direct current (DC) supply. Repairs must be carried out by an authorised service Centre. Unauthorised repairs may void warranty and could be a potential electrical hazard. INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE 1. Grasp the handle of the water tank firmly and remove it from the base (Fig. 1). 2. Remove the cap from the water reservoir by turning it counter-clockwise (Fig. 2). Fill the water reservoir with (Max. 3.8 L) tap water (cool water, not warmer than 40 C). After filling the water reservoir with water secure the reservoir cap firmly. Fig.1 3. Carefully place the water reservoir back into the base. 4. Insert the essence (if desired) into the aromatic container (b) (Fig. 3). - Do not put the essence directly into the water. - Do not overfill the aromatic container or spill any into the Steam Chamber (c). - Do not operate unit without the aromatic container in place. 5. Connect the power cord to a power socket. M I 6. To turn the unit on, turn the Switch (L) clockwise, to switch off turn anti clockwise. The indicator lamp (m) will illuminate green when the appliance is switched On (Fig. 4). L ON ON OFF EMPTY Fig.4 7. The appliance will take approx 4 minutes to heat up and for steam to start being emitted from discharge opening. 40cm 8. When the water in the reservoir has been exhausted, the water indicator lamp EMPTY (i) will illuminate in red and the HIPPO Deluxe will shut off automatically. 10. Switch off the appliance, disconnect the power cord and let it cool off for 15 minutes before refilling the water reservoir. 11. Always rinse the water reservoir after each use. Caution! The steam is very hot. Please keep your feet and hands away from the steam discharge opening. Do not operate the air humidifier close to children. Danger of burning! MAINTENANCE and CLEANING Disconnect the power cord from the power outlet and allow the appliance to cool before cleaning. When not used for extended periods of time, place appliance in plastic bag, away from dirt and dust and store in a cool dry area. Failure to carry out maintenance and cleaning may cause excessive build up of scale on the heating element preventing the unit from operating correctly. This may cause a false EMPTY water level warning and for the RED light to illuminate even when the water tank is full. Daily Maintenance: Remove water reservoir from base (d) and rinse it with warm water thoroughly a couple of times. Repeat this process every time before refilling the appliance with water prior to using. Wipe accessible surfaces of the water reservoir with a soft cloth. Remove the Aromatic container from the Steam Chamber (c) (Fig. 6). Using the Heating Cone release (Fig. 7), release the Steam Chamber (Fig. 8) from the Base. Wipe the Aromatic container, Steam Chamber and Removable Heating Cone (Fig. 9) clean with a soft damp cloth. H Fig.6 Clean the base with a soft damp cloth. Ensure the heater and heater chamber is cool before wiping dry. - DO NOT use abrasive cleaners or brushes. - DO NOT leave water in the Water Reservoir when the unit is not in use. Weekly Maintenance: Thoroughly clean humidifier every week as described in Daily Maintenance. Remove the water reservoir (d), the steam chamber (c), and the heating cone (g) from the appliance and rinse all parts with vinegar water (25% vinegar / 75% water). Rinse thoroughly with clean water after that. Remove any residual water from the water reservoir. Fill the reservoir with a mixture of 25% vinegar (950ml) and 75% water (2850ml) and leave for 20 minutes to remove possible mineral deposits. Drain vinegar water and rinse thoroughly with clean water. Fill the heating chamber (e) with vinegar (50% vinegar / 50% water) and leave it to take effect for 20 minutes. Drain any residual water from the heating chamber and dry with damp soft clean cloth. WARNING: Do not submerge or rinse the base in water. - Do not use steel wool, scouring agents or abrasive material. - Dry all parts properly. - Reassemble the appliance as shown in the instruction manual. Disinfecting the Removable Heating Cone and Water Reservoir: Thoroughly clean humidifier every week using a solution of bleach and water (1 tea spoon of bleach in 3.8 litre of water). Fill the reservoir partially with this solution and let it stand for 20 minutes shaking the water reservoir vigorously every few minutes. Drain and rinse the reservoir with clean water until the bleach smell is gone. The Heating Cone, Aromatic container, and Steam Chamber are dishwasher safe. N.B.: Place on the top shelf of the dishwasher only. End of Season Maintenance: Thoroughly follow Weekly Maintenance directions above. Make sure all parts of the humidifier are dry before storing. Leave the reservoir cap partially loosened during storage to prevent the reservoir cap and gasket from sticking together. Clean the reservoir and base after a long period of storage. 5
TROUBLE SHOOTING PROBLEM CAUSE SOLUTION The switch is ON, but the Operation indicator lamp (ON) is off Unit is not plugged in. No power at the outlet. Plug the unit in. Have the circuits, fuses, and test outlet with a tester. No Mist Condensation forms around the humidifier or windows No water in the reservoir. Unit is not level. Mineral deposits are on the Heater or Removable Heat Cone. Water Reservoir was washed with detergent. Mist intensity is too high for the room size or pre-existing humidity level. Fill reservoir with water. Place on a level surface Clean the Heater and Removable Heat Cone as specified in the Weekly maintenance. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and dry. Open room door gradually until condensation stops. Empty water level indicator lamp (EMPTY) illuminates Water overflows from the tank Water Reservoir is empty. The unit was not switched off and let cool after refilling the water reservoir. The heating element is encrusted with scale and the protection thermostat has tripped. Tank may be leaking. Tank Cap is loose. Refill water reservoir Disconnect the power cord. Switch off the unit, and let it cool off for 15 minutes. Then switch the unit on. Unplug the power cord and carry out the cleaning procedure. Check before every usage that the lid of the tank is securely closed, that the tank has no cracks or damages, and that the membrane valve closes properly. Tighten the Tank Cap. 6
